- ORF Airport Overview
Norfolk International (ORF) Airport in southeastern Virginia is the largest airport serving the Greater Hampton Roads area and northeastern North Carolina. The airport is approximately six miles from downtown Norfolk, a city that’s home to the world’s largest naval base. It is adjacent to the Lake Whitehurst Reservoir and the famous Norfolk Botanical Garden.
Major airlines serve the airport to multiple Airport hubs and other destinations, affording connections to flights around the world. Norfolk airport’s main terminal was built in the 1970s, but a major capital improvement project completed in 2002 refurbished the somewhat drab terminal and added a spacious new arrivals terminal, a nine-story parking garage and additional food and retail concessions.
