My wife and I have a six hour layover in Amsterdam. Do we have enough time to leave the airport and do a bit of sightseeing and get back for our continuing flight? WhAt is the best way to do this? Cab or train. How far out of town is the airport? Thanks!
The most convenient way to get from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam city center is by train or by taxi. Both take about 25-30 minutes. So you will have some time to see a little bit of Amterdam. I am flying from Moscow to Ams with Aerfloat arriving at 4.10PM (AMS time) and I have different flight to madrid at 6.40PM AirEuropa. In between I have to check-out and check-in my luggage. Could you please let me know is this transist time is sufficient?
That will be difficult but should be just enough time.
I arrive SLC-AMS at 8:40a and next flight departs at 4:30p for Berlin (8 hour Layover). Is there time to take the train into the City to sight see and then get back to the airport in time to catch my 4:30p flight? Thanks.
I booked with Delta a flight ATL => FLR. The return is KLM codeshare through AMS arriving 9am on a Saturday, departing 5pm for ATL that same day. I am wanting to catch taxi or train to City Central and spend several hours. I plan on carryon only but there is a possibility (depending on shopping) that I may check my luggage. Even if only carryon, I will use the left luggage at AMS. My questions: will KLM/Delta check my baggage through to ATL? and will I have to go back through security at AMS? I want to know exactly how much time I have in Amsterdam. Any other recs/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, KLM should check your bags through to ATL if the connection is during the day. If you leave the airport you will have to go through security in AMS, but otherwise you wouldn't (although you would have to go through US Security questions).
Given the situation I described how much time should I allow to go through security? I will check my bags through to ATL on the way back so I'll only have my purse. Thank you for your response! Very helpful.
Get to the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to Atlanta.
Hi, I am flying from Toronto-schiphol-lagos, i am a Nigerian with "implied status" in Canada and still waiting on a decision to be made on an extension of my visa. Do i need an airport transit visa through schiphol? I have been getting conflicting information saying i do and the latest from consular officer Mrs mickey mclaughlin in Toronto say i do not need one if i have proof of my visa application, express entry profile application and receipts of payments which i have. would that work? Can i still board a flight in Toronto?
Yes, since you won't have a formal extension of your Visa at that time you will need a Schengen Airport Transit Visa issued by the Netherlands. With no Schengen Visa or valid Canadian Visa the airline is not required to let you board.
I have a flight from Rome to Ams on KLM arriving at 1:00 pm with a 90 minute layover. From Ams I fly to Seattle at 2:45 pm. My tickets were purchased separately. I will have carry on only. Will I need to go back through security? Thanks!!
