In Amsterdam all you have to do is go through passport control and to your departure gate. You have enough time.

A friend has asked me to pick up a Starbucks collectible mug from Amsterdam while I have a layover at Schiphol. I'm flying Washington Dulles to Schiphol with a two hour layover before continuing to Rome. Is the Starbucks easily accessible for transfer passengers?

Flying United from Houston to AMS with a 1hr 5min layover. Then flying Scandinavian to Copenhagen. Is this enough time or should I look for an alternative? Thank you!!!

That should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Hello I am travelling from Mumbai to Hannover with transist in Amsterdam.. It's between jet airways and Klm hopper, code shared flight of jet airways...only 1 hour transit time in between will it be sufficient?

That should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

So I'll have only immigration and security check right?

    Yes

Hi, I'm a Malaysian and will be travelling from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport via AMS airport. The connecting time at the AMS is 1hr 15mins, and both legs of the journey will be with Air France. I'm not so used to air travel so would like to have as many opinion as possible on whether it is possible to catch the connecting flight. and do i have to go through any immigration or security once i landed at AMS?

Yes, when you land in Amsterdam you will go through Passport control and security before your flight to Amsterdam. You should have just enough time.

Sorry, I mean before your flight to Paris. Also, note that the first flight and possibly both flights will be operated by KLM.

many thanks for your reply. yeah, i just checked with the air france website and the both flights will be operated by KLM. i have not purchased any ticket yet, and there is an option for 1hr 55min layover time! this should be slightly more sufficient right?

    Yes, that's what I'd book.

I am traveling from BOM(Mumbai, India) Jetairways to AMS and I have to catch connecting flight to DTW(Detroit,USA) via Delta airline. Is 1hr 25 min overlay is enough to catch the same?

If both tickets are on the same reservation then that is enough time. in AMS all you have to do is go through security and to your departure gate.

I will be travelling via AMS on my way to Kenya from Leeds Bradford Airport with family including an 18month old baby. WIll 1 hour connection time in Amsterdam be enough. I will arriving in a KLM cityhopper and will getting another KLM (Kenya airways) in AMS. Do we go via security and immigration. Thank you in advance.

All you have to do in Amsterdam is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Since you are not entering the Schengen Area you don't have to go through passport control. You should have enough time.

  • On seperate tickets, how to collect and re check in

Flying from DXB to AMS.Again flying from AMS to DXB on a seperate ticket.Do i need to go through security check along with checking in bags?do i need a visa for that? i have 4 hours layover.Indian citizen.

So you're flying from Dubai to Amsterdam just to fly right back to Dubai? Did you mistype?

ya typo....DXB -> AMS and AMS -> SLC.

Since you have to separate tickets you will need a transit visa. If everything was on the same reservation, since you presumably have a valid Visa to visit the US, you wouldn't need a transit visa. But yes, since it's two separate reservations you will have to go through passport control, claim your bags, re-check them with Delta, and go through security and exit passport control. However, Delta doesn't have an interline agreement with Emirates, so you couldn't have flown these flights on the same reservation even if you wanted to.

Thanks a lot for taking time out and replying!!There is possibility of single ticket from Dubai it is KLM and from AMS to SLC ,it is Delta but the tickets are a lot cheaper seperately. Why would i need a transit visa if i am not leaving the airport? ..forgive my ignorance...

You need a transit visa to clear Schengen Passport control and you need to do that to transfer your bags from the first airline to the second airline.

    Thanks a lot!!

Hi, travelling UK to France via AMS mid morning, with a 1 hour transfer time between flights. Considering non schengen to schengen security and passport controls, this seems a bit tight. Any thoughts? Both flights with KLM/Air France. thanks

Yes, it's not impossible but it is a little tight.

I am traveling from the US to Dubai with a 5 hour layover. How long will it take to clear customs and will I have time for a tour?

That isn't really enough time to do anything. If you don't leave the airport then you don't have to go through passport control or customs in Amsterdam.

    thank you!

I am travelling from Toronto to Paris, 90 min layover in Amsterdam. First flight is Jet Aireays and second flight is Air France. Will I need to go through customs again or can I just go straight for my gate? I have the same situation for when I come back but the layover is only 80min.

You will go through passport control both ways. You should have enough time if everything is on the same reservation.

I am traveling from SLC-Athens with a 2hr 20 min layover in AMS. Is that enough time? First time traveling internationally.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You just have to go through passport control and to your departure gate.

Thank you. It was either this flight or go thorough CDG with a 7 1/2 hr layover.

Hello. I'm a Canadian travelling KLM from Toronto to Budapest with 14 hour layover in Amsterdam. Am I allowed to go sightseeing out of the airport and come back later for my flight? I will have checked in baggages.

Yes, you are allowed to leave the airport. Canadian citizens are allowed to visit all EU countries basically as they wish.

Thanks for your comment. I was talking about only 1h05mn in amsterdam to catch the cape town (south africa) flight. I think there is only this flight and not sure whether if one miss the connection they put you for free to the next one?

I arrive AMS on Delta from New York JFK at 10:45am on Sunday 3/13. I depart on Delta KLM heading to Spain at 6:15pm that evening. Do I have enough time to clear customs to get in some sightseeing and get back to the airport? This is my first time to Amsterdam and I really wanted to take in a few sights. Any suggestions?

Yes, I think that would be enough time for a little sightseeing.
