Thinking of booking KLM from Moscow to Vancouver, transferring in Amsterdam. I have 2 choices: transfer time of 65 minutes or over 5 hr.Will a transfer time of 65 minutes be sufficient? Thank you for help.

We arrive from Rome on alitila and transfer to delta. We have 2 hrs. Should this give us enough time?

Forgot to ask. Will our bags be transferred to delta or do we recheck. Thanks

Traveling from the U.S. To Budapest transferring from Delta to KLM in Amsterdam. Delta did not give us a KLM boarding pass for the Avondale leg, but instead a note stating we may have to claim and recheck luggage in AMS? What is the new process ?

Sorry that should read second leg not Abondale

Were your tickets purchased on two separate reservations? Otherwise they should have checked your bags through and given you your second boarding pass.

they are part of a group reservation. And they have the same conf code. we can check when we get to the airport to see about a boarding pass before we get to AMS.

I will be flying from Glasgow International airport to Nice France with KLM. There is a plane change at Amsterdam airport with a stopover of only 45 minutes. Is this enough time?

It's possible but it will be difficult because both flights will probably use bus gates and you will have to go through Schengen passport control.

What kind of security do I have in Ams? Flying from Brussels (KLM) to Amsterdam and then to Detroit (Delta) all in one ticket. connection time 1u20

No security. You just have to go through Schengen Exit passport control.

I thought every passenger going to USA must go through D1 to get an interview and get the number of the gate?

No, they do not do interviews in D1. It is a security/carry-on bag inspection checkpoint.

  • VCE-AMS-SEA, 50 min. KLM, then DELTA aircraft

Can you tell me exactly what screening steps I will have to go thru? Is below correct? 1) exit Schengen passport control 2) D1 screening 3) then to gate? What are the typical gates (C, D, E, F etc) that vce-ams arrives at? What are the typical gates that ams- sea flight departs from? With new security procedure, 50 min enough time?

You should only have to go through schengen exit passport control. You will not have to go to D1 screening since you are coming from a Schengen country.

Also, you should probably have enough time if your flight from Venice is on-time.

Will be connecting flights, Air France from Jordan to Delta flight back to USA. I have 1 hr,40 min. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will just have to go through security and to your departure gate.

Under one ticket, I would arrive at AMS on a KLM flght from the USA and have 1:05 to connect to another KLM flight going to Moscow. (Bonus points if anyone can answer the same question about arriving on an Air France flight arriving from Kiev at Paris CDG and catching another Air France flight 1:05 later, on the same ticket, bound for the USA). Thanks!

In AMS, that should be no problem, You'll just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate since you won't be entering the Schengen Area. In CDG it will be a little harder but should still be possible. It's the same process but CDG Terminal 2 is a much bigger facility than all of AMS.

    Thank you!

  • Connecting from Peru to Ireland through Schiphol

Hello, I´ll be flying from Lima, Peru to Dublin, Ireland, on July 1st. I heard the transfer process is easy between Non-Schengen countries (Peru and Ireland in my case). My layover at Schiphol is 1 hour, and I know they have recently switched to centralized security. Both flights are operated by KLM (Lima-Amsterdam) and Aer Lingus (Amsterdam-Dublin, on behalf of KLM). I wonder if I need to pass through security while on transfer, since I´m assuming Peru is not on line with EU´s stringent security procedures.

Yes, I think you will have to go through security but I think you will still have enough time.

Hello and good morning, Thank you so much for your answer. Best regards,

I have a 1hr 25 min layover in AMS. Do I check in a kiosk before or after Schengen Passport Control? How long does security usually take? This week there has been flight delays from MSP which concern me.

Your rote doesn't make sense (WAS is the code for all Washington, DC airports). Where are you flying to from AMS?

Perhaps you are going to Warsaw - the code for Warsaw is WAW. If so you should have enough time for your transfer.

Hi! I'm flying from Detroit, MI (DTW) through AMS to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS). The layover time is 50min. What kind of security will I have to go through at AMS? Will I need to pick up and re-check bags? Will 50mins be enough time? Thanks!

You will have to go through Schengen Passport control and security. You will not have to do anything with your bags. You should have enough time if your flight from Detroit is on-time.

Not true anymore. If you arrive from DTW you can just go straight through passport control to your gate. There is no more security.

  • 8 hr transfer between different airlines on different tickets

My husband is flying a round trip AMS to LIS on TAP for business, arriving around midnight. He has purchased a round trip AMS to IAD on United at noon the next day. Both are Star Alliance, but they are different tickets and itineraries. He is a US citizens, but lives in the Netherlands and has a residency card. Rather than leave the airport and take a cab home, then turn around 6 hours later for a cab back, he wants to stay at the Mercure hotel in the airport terminal, which we understand is "beyond" passport control and, after 3 June, "beyond" security. Unfortunately, he needs to check a bag on each of these flights. He believes that he will be able to exit passport control and collect his bag from the TAP and then turn around and "check-in his bag with United and re-enter passport control with his United boarding pass. Is this possible to do, or should he just find a different hotel?

No, he will not be able to re-check his bag until the United counter opens on the day of his flight between 8 and 9 AM. He will have to find another hotel.

  • 2 hours connection time at AMS.Is it possible?

Hello IFly experts I fly from Geneva to AMS by KLM and take a flight at AMS to Minneapolis. Ticket issued by Air France website GVA- AMS-MSP all in one itinerary / ticket. Would be grateful if someone tell me whether 2 hours of connection time is enough to catch a flight at AMS? Thank you very much! Best regards Emphilan

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • GVA-AMS-MSP : 1h35 or 2h05 or 4h15 layover,pls suggest

Dear All / IFly Experts / AMS Experts I would like to reserve a flight from Geneva to Minneapolis. I found some possibilities as follows: 1. GVA to AMS KLM Connecting time 1h35 AMS to MSP Delta 2. Same as above but with 2h05 minutes connection time 3. Same as above but with 4h 15 minutes connection time. 4. GVA- Paris CDG (Air France) Connection time in Paris CDG 2h05 minutes Paris CDG - MSP by Delta 5. Same as above but with a 4h05 connection time at Paris 6. Same as above but with a 1h35 minutes connection time at Paris I do not have any idea whether these shorter connection times like 1h35 minutes and 2h05 minutes are feasible or stressful. It would be really helpful if you suggest me is it any good if I book with 2h05 connection times at either Paris (Air France) or AMS (KLM)

any of those should work. required connection times at AMS are shorter than CDG because it is a shorter airport and was built from the ground up for connections. I would suggest going through AMS.

Hi ZAP I really appreicate your reply and your advice to go through AMS. Thank you. Could you please tell me about connection times, as it stresses me a lot. You replied even to my other post saying it would be fine with 2h05minutes connection time at AMS but just I insist your advice on this because from AMS to MSP i have Delta and not KLM. The complete ticket I buy with KLM. So my question is, is that KLM's responsability to see that I take the Delta flight to MSP at AMS even with shorter connection times? Another question, will I need to go through immigration and customs once again? Thank you a lot and wish to receive your reply so that I can proceed to buy the tickets. Best regards Emphilan

Delta and KLM are very close partners. They in fact share staff in Amsterdam. If there's a problem in Amsterdam they won't be throwing you back and forth between them. You will have to go through Schengen exit Passport control before you board your MSP flight, but that's a formality that just takes a few seconds.

  • (KLM): LAX to AMS to BCN, will we make it?

Booked online with KLM, LAX to Barcelona with a 65 minute transfer in AMS. Called KLM and they said no problem making it in time as we'll clear Customs in Barcelona. Is this true? If not should we re-book? This will be from 9-10:05 am Sunday.

You will clear CUSTOMS in Barcelona, but you will go through Schengen Passport Control in Amsterdam. However, you should have plenty of time as Amsterdam is built to handle tight connections like this.

Thanks for the quick reply. From the flight history it looks like it's consistently on schedule so we'll hope for the best.
