Family and I will be flying from Edmonton (Canada) to Malaga (Spain) via Amsterdam. With the new security measures, do we have to go through security during our transit to Malaga? Thank you

There are no new security measures affecting connecting flights from Canada to the Schengen Area. You just have to go through Schengen passport control in Amsterdam.

  • 2 Hour Layoverwith different airlines
    Aug 24, 2015
I am flying in to Amsterdam on Icelandair and I am departing 2 hours later on KLM to Kuwait. I have 3 bags checked luggage and I was told I will need to pick them up and recheck them in Amsterdam as the two airlines I'm flying with don't share funds. Will 2 hours be enough time for this? Also, will I need to go through immigration and such or is there a more efficient way, such as a bag drop area. What I'm most concerned about is making the bag drop in time, under the hour cutoff time. I am already checked in and have printed off my passes so that's looked after. Please advise me on the above.

You will not go through passport control on arrival as Iceland and the Netherlands are both in the Schengen Area. You will proceed to the baggage claim, get your bags then take them to the KLM check-in desk, then go through Schengen Exit passport control and security.

  • Canada to South Africa with connection in Amsterdam
    Aug 20, 2015
We are flying from Canada to South Africa. We have to stop for 1 hour and 50 minutes in Amsterdam before catching our next flight. Do we have to go through customs in Amsterdam or we will fine as we are only transiting? Thank you.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will not have to go through passport control in Amsterdam as you are not entering the Schengen area.

Yes, that should be enough time. You won't go through passport control in AMS as you are not entering the Schengen area.

  • separate itineraries, 1 hour time. Can I make it?
    Aug 20, 2015
I am arriving on Delta from PDX->AMS at 8:50am. I want to catch another flight from AMS->HEL at 9:55am, which is KLM. Is 1hr 05min enough time to make the second flight? They are on separate itineraries. Will not having any checkin bag help?

Please don't ask the same question twice.

Thanks for the response on the other forum. (Apologies for duplicated questions - was not sure which forum was the right one to ask at).

  • Arriving from Atlanta w 55 minutes to connect Flt to Vienna.
    Aug 19, 2015
I have read other posts and I conclude we will need to go through Schengen passport control. Will we have enough time to board Delta/KLM flight to Vienna? Will the 6 a.m. arrival be a positive (fewer travelers)?

Yes, a 6 AM arrival will help. You should barely have enough time if things go smoothly.

  • 55 minute layover

I am traveling from San Francisco to Spain with a 55 minute layover in Amsterdam. Will I have to go through customs in Amsterdam and will this be enough time to make my flight to Spain?

You will go through Schengen Passport control in Amsterdam. You should have barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • 40 min connection
    Aug 14, 2015
We're flying from Heathrow to Marseilles via Amsterdam with only 40 mins connection time. Both flights are with KLM. Is this long enough? (Flights were booked for us by tour operator). Can we check baggage at Heathrow right through to Marseilles? Will we have to go through passport control at Schiphol? We have the same situation returning from Athens to Heathrow via Amsterdam.

Yes, your baggage will be checked through to Marseilles. Yes, you will go through Schengen passport control in Amsterdam. 40 minutes is possible, but will be difficult.

    Aug 9, 2015
Is 1 hr. 50 min. enough time to connect KLM flt. from Kristiansand, Norway, to Delta Flight to Detroit, Michigan?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will just have to go through Schengen exit passport control.

  • 1hr Connection

My wife, son and I will be traveling from Toronto to Glasgow on KLM with a one hour connection in Amsterdam. Will we have to clear customers or anything upon arrival or is it arrival gate to departure gate? Our son is only two so we're not sure how quickly we'll have to move.

Since you are not entering the Schengen area you will not go through Passport control in Amsterdam. You should have enough time if your flight from Toronto is on-time.

What is D1 screening vs Passport control? We have a 70 minute connection in AMS on our flight from Rome to Seattle. I am just trying to figure out if this is enough time to make it through.

Just follow the signs. You should have enough time.

  • FCO --> AMS --> SEA

Will 90 minutes be enough time at AMS to make my connection between Rome & Seattle (KLM from Rome, Delta to Seattle)?

Oh, and this would all be on the same ticket (not yet purchased). Based on other posts, it sounds like it should be safe, but I want to be sure before I make the investment.

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • PRG-AMS-ATL 55 min?
    Jul 26, 2015
We will be traveling Prague - Amsterdam - Atlanta with a 55 min layover on our return to US. Only flown in via AMS, never out. I'm assuming we clear passport control since going from Schengen to US flight. Is 55 min long enough? Are there any priority lines that may expedite AMS security, if needed? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. AMS is built to accomodate tight connections. Schengen exit passport control is a formality.

See my post under VCE-AMS-SEA. 55 min is a short connectiontime given delta closes their gates 20 min prior to departure time. With our early arrival, we had a 65 min connection time. We were one of the last to board. Re expedited lines, at the passport control we used, there was a line for those with a short connection time. They list which flights qualify and there was an agent checking your ticket to see if you could access this line.

We arrived late from Vienna to make a similar connection with arrival at Terminal C, departure at Terminal G - opposite end of the airport. A good 15 minute hike if one is hustling. It was very difficult, and we are hikers in great shape! Barely made it.

  • KLM Connections Amsterdam
    Jul 20, 2015
Traveling from Portland OR to Kilamajaro Tanzania through Amsterdam. Have 1 1/2 hrs. to change KLM flights. Will the connection be made behind security, i.e. international terminal and is there anything I should be aware of regarding this connection. I will be returning by same connections.

Amsterdam only has one Terminal. You will not be entering the Schengen area so you will not have to go through Passport control. You just have to go from your arrrival gate to your departure gate on your way to Tanzania. On your return you will just have to go through Security.
