I'm going to mexico from madrid with layover in Amsterdam. Landing in amsterdam at 1pm and leaving to mexico at 2.30pm. Do I need to go through passport control?

Yes, since you are entering the Schengen Area in Amsterdam you will go through Schengen entry passport control and security in Amsterdam.

We will be traveling from the US to AMS via KLM and arriving at 7:20 am. We will then have a 10:05 am flight to Barcelona via Vueling with checked bags. Will this be enough time?

That should be enough time as long as your KLM flight is on-time.

In June we will be flying from ATl to Vienna. We have a layover in Amsterdam with our Delta flight arriving at 6am In Amsterdam and our KLM flight departing for Vienna at 6:50. Should we have any problems? I know if we miss the flight KLM will get us on the next one but I'd like to get to Vienna asap

You will have to hope your Delta flight is on-time and hurry in order to make this connection.

We are looking at flights from the US to Copenhagen via Amsterdam. Will we have to go through customs in Amsterdam or in Copenhagen? And is 1 hr 15 min enough time in AMS to get through customs (if we have to do it there)? Other flights have a 2 hr layover in AMS -- would that be better?

You will go through Schengen Passport control in Amsterdam. A 2 hour layover would be better.

Thank you! This is a great resource!

I am having same boarding pass. I am coming from Marseille, France by AIR France flight. it will reach at 11:35am at AMS airport and my next flight departure at 12:45pm. Just after 1hour 10min. Whether this time would be enough to catch the flight. What is the easiest way to catch my connecting flight ASAP.

Just follow the signs to your departure gate. You will go through Schengen Exit Passport control (a brief process) on your way. You should have enough time.

Hi, I am flying from US, San Fransisco on Delta to Amstardam and then take Jet Airways flight to Bombay,India. I have 2 hrs in between the flight. Is that enough time? Will I make it if the airline is different?

Assuming all tickets are on the same reservation that should be enough time. All you will have to do in that case is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Amsterdam.

  • Separate tickets connection

I'm have two separate tickets: Anchorage (USA) to AMS via Delta (arrival 8:15am) and AMS to Kigali (Rwanda), departure 9.55am. I don't believe it's possible to make a connection, however, what are those steps? Get out of plane, run for luggage (is customs before or after?) then run back to KLM station to check in to the next flight? Is anyone done some crazy stuff like this? what about time frame? I've called both Delta and KLM to see if they can transfer the luggage, they said no. I don't want to be stuck in AMS for 24 hours:)

You will have to go through passport control, then run to the baggage claim than run it to the KLM check in desk. It is possible if the Delta flight arrives on-time or early and things go smoothly.

I am flying into Amsterdam from IAD on United flight. There is a 2hr layover before I catch my flight to Vienna. Is this sufficient time?

If you have checked baggage and two separate reservations it will be difficult. If you don't have checked bags or your bags are checked through I think you can make it.

My flight to Vienna is with Austrian airlines. We will not have any checked bags just carry on. Will we just go through passport control?

Yes, you will still go through passport control as you will be entering the Schengen Area in Amsterdam. You have plenty of time.

One more thing: well we have to go through security again? Or once I'm done with passport control I can just go to my connecting flight gate. Thanks for your help! This has been very helpful

Since you're coming from the US You should not have to go through security again in Amsterdam.

We will be staying at Mercure in the Terminal (we flying to AMS from US on 21st and flying to Tel Aviv via Zurich next day), our Swiss International flight departs at 7am. Since I am staying in Transit area - will I need to go thru passport control and/or security to get to the gate?

You will go through Schengen passport control at some point (I believe prior to your flight to Zurich) because that flight is within the Schengen Area.

Would it better to stay in Hilton then and go thru airport security?

You could do that, you would just have to leave the hotel at about 5:00 while at the Mercure you could sleep about another half hour.
