  • Gates - 2 hours
    Mar 20, 2014
MSP to AMS, at what gates does Delta arrive? Is 2 hours enough transfer time when switching to Royal Jordanian to AMM? Departure gates?

Arrivals 1 & 2 areas lead up to Departures 1 & 2; and Arrivals 3 & 4 lead up to Departure 3. Departures 1 uses the B, C & D gates; At AMS, airlines are not specifically assigned to Concourses /gates. Departures 2 uses the E gates; Departure 3 uses F, G, H & M gates. (Arrivals 1 & 2 and Arrivals 3 & 4 are on opposite sides of the center.) - simply follow signs to your connecting gate. 2 hrs transfer is enough time.

do I have to collect my bags? do I have to go through a passport or security check? If so where?

  • Do I need ti retrieve baggage
    Feb 19, 2014
I am flying from Bremen to Minneapolis via Amsterdam. What terminal do I arrive in, do I need to retrieve my luggage, and what terminal do I depart from? All booked through delta.

Amsterdam Airport has only one terminal; its airlines are not assigned. You are arriving there on a Schengen flight & depart for a non-Schengen flight (security check will be at the gate area). Your luggate will automatically be transferred. For Airport layout & trrafer, I suggest you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Connection Question
    Jan 20, 2014
Flying from LUX to AMS and then on to Atlanta in the USA. Is 50 minutes enough time to make a connection In AMS?

Yes, AMS is made for tight connections and you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and through security in AMS.

  • 1h 10m Connection time with smaller kids
    Jan 12, 2014
Hi, we are planning a trip with 2 kids (2 and 6 years) from Zuerich to San Francisco. There is a flight with KLM Cityhopper arriving in Schiphol at 8:40 with the KLM Connection flight leaving at 9:50 (e.g. 1h10m time). Is this too big a risk to take? Usually international flights board 40min ahead, will that be a problem? Thank you for your help!

Since the earlier flight is an easy option I would probably do that, although the later flight would probably be OK.

  • Connections time 1h.10min AMS-ATL
    Jan 9, 2014
Hi, I have not been flying from Schiphol in a long time, our time between landing and takeoff is 1h 10 min. We fly from Stockholm - Amsterdam - Atlanta. How is the security checks and the times for these between gates? We are flying with Delta (KLM), on a weekday, and in the afternoon, (booked the entire trip through ... experience? thank you! How does the service if we miss the flight, experience?

You should have plenty of time. If you do miss your connection due to a delay you will be rebooked to Atlanta on the next available flight, possibly through another Delta hub, such as Detroit or NY-JFK.

  • Tranfer time -> flight to San Francisco
    Jan 6, 2014
Hello, we are flying from Vienna to Amsterdam and them from Amsterdam to San Francisco. We have 1h for transfer. Is this enough? All flights are KLM. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. AMS is made for quick transfers and all you will have to do is go through security at your departure gate.

  • Transfer Zurich-AMS-Tokyo Narita
    Jan 1, 2014
Hi. I would like to ask wether 55 minutes are enough time to transfer at Amsterdam Schiphol. I will fly from Zurich to Tokyo Narita. Is the luggage going to make it too or is it likely that it would arrive after me? Thank you.

It should be enough time. Your transfer should be fairly straight forward and AMS is made for tight connections.

  • 2 hours layover enough for Zurich->AMS->Boston? (different tickets)
    Nov 19, 2013
hi!!! I will be flying from Zurich to AMS on Monday morning (probably with Swiss Air or KLM). then I have 2 hours from arrival until my next KLM flight departs from AMS to Boston 1) does anyone have idea if this 2-hour interval is sufficient? given that I need to collect my luggage & re check-in with another airline? (do I need to go to passport control on both ways? I'm not a European citizen) 2) does it make any difference if flight Zurich -> AMS I fly with Swiss Air vs. KLM (given that the ticket will be separated from flight KLM->BOS anyway)? thank you so much for your input!

Swiss may be able to check your bag through to KLM in Zurich even though you're on two separate tickets. They do have an interline agreement and European airlines tend to be pretty good about that. If you fly KLM you can definitely get your bag transferred to your second flight and get all your boarding passes in Zurich so all you would have to do in Amsterdam is go from gate to gate. Either way you will not have to go through any immigration in Amsterdam as both Zurich and Amsterdam are in Schengen.

    Thank you very much!

  • United from Houston, transferring to JRO
    Nov 15, 2013
Are there particular gates that the UAL flights from the US arrive and the KLM to JRO depart? Would I have to claim and recheck luggage? Mahalo...

Your United flight will arrive in Pier E or G and your KLM flight will depart from D, E, or F. If your tickets were bought on one reservation your bags should be checked through to JRO and you won't have to do collect them in Amsterdam.

  • Travelling via Delta to America
    Nov 15, 2013
Hi, I will be travelling to America via Amsterdam soon. My flight operated by Delta should arrive in at 8.40am on a saturday (from the UK) and my connecting flight also operated by delta leaves at 10.35am. I am first time solo flyer so am a bit scared of connections! Im wondering if that is enough time to be able to do it successfully, and what steps I need to go through to have a smooth transition? Thanks!

Delta does not fly from the UK to Amsterdam, so that flight will actually be operated by KLM. Just find out your departing gate upon arrival and follow the signs to that gate. You will go through security when you get to your gate.

I have 2 hours in AMS before departing to JRO. Does anyone know which gate/terminal I will arrive at from the US and which gates I will depart? I'm flying KLM, operated by Delta all on one ticket. Will I need to pick up my bags and go through customs in AMS or will I do that in JRO?

You will not have to go through EU immigration in AMS, you will just go through security at your departure gate. Amsterdam only has one terminal with numerous Piers, which are all connected. Connections at Amsterdam are typically very intuitive.
