  • Transfer query - planes not in same alliance
    Jan 12, 2015
Hi I plan to fly Singapore Airlines from Australia to AMS, and then get a flight (which is not in the Singapore Airlines alliance) to Cardiff, UK. Will I need to go through AMS customs, collect my bag from the carousel and check in again for my Cardiff flight?

It depends who is operating your AMS-CWL flight. If both airlines have an interline bag agreement and the agent in Australia is willing to tag your bag through to Cardiff, you can just go from your arrival gate, get your boarding pass at the transfer desk, and then go through security at the departure gate. Otherwise, yes, you will have to go through schengen passport control, claim your bags, take them to the KLM counter, go back through schengen exit passport control and security.

  • 1.30h for changing from klm to ua, is that enough time?
    Jan 12, 2015
I am flying from Humberside to schipol on klm and from there to Huston on united, in between flights I have 1.30h, will this be enough time to check in? I have only hand baggage.

That should be enough time. Since you don't have checked luggage you should be able to get your United boarding pass at the transfer desk without having to exit the secure area.

will this be ok even if I bought the tickets separate? thank you

Yes, like I said, you should be able to get your United boarding pass at the United Transfer desk.

  • Transit - KLM & Iceland Air ?
    Jan 10, 2015
I'm flying in via KLM from Africa and aim to take Icelandair to Canada the next day. I have small kids and thus prefer to stay at a hotel in Transit zone (like Mercure) and rest for a day. I have a visa for my destination (Canada) and so ordinarily wont require a transit visa.... Would I be able to pick our baggage, lodge and check in to next flight, all within the transit zone of the airport?

You can't pickup your baggage. So pack some clothes for your overnight in your carry on.

Ok. But would KLM transfer my baggage to Icelandair considering that they are totally different flights / tickets ?

You should have mentioned you purchased two separate tickets. You will have to exit the transit zone to get your baggage and therefore will need a transit visa. Buying separate tickets as you did means you need a transit visa.

  • Flight change-USA to entebbee via AMS
    Dec 30, 2015
Will I have a enough time to change from Delta(arrival) and leave on KLM 65 minutes later headed to Entebee, Uganda?

Yes, that should be enough time. Since you are not entering the Schengen Area you just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and go through security.

  • SVO-AMS-SFO separate tickets, is 2hr10min enough time?
    Jan 10, 2015
If I travel on separate tickets from SVO to AMS (on KLM) and AMS to SFO (on Delta), is 2 hours 10 minutes in AMS enough time to change flights? Will I go through immigration/check-in, or only pick up and check in luggage? Thank you for your help!

You will have plenty of time. You will not have to go through Immigration or claim your bags in Amsterdam as you will not be entering the Schengen area, you only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate and go through security.

If I have checked luggage, where do I pick it up from and where will I check it in? (SVO-AMS is the final leg of a trip booked earlier. AMS-SFO is the first leg on a separate ticket.) Thank you again. :)

You should have mentioned the separate tickets. If you show your AMS-SFO confirmation to the KLM agent in Moscow they should be able to check your bags through to San Francisco.

i am flying from LA to Munich arriving at 1340 then departing Munich at 1450 to Amsterdam arriving AMS at 1625. My plan is to get on a train leaving AMS at 1816 to Cologne. Is this enough time?

Yes that should be enough time

  • I have 50 minutes do I have enough time
    Dec 26, 2014
I am landing in AMS at 9:00 am on Delta. My flight to LAX leaves at 9:50 on Delta operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Do I have enough time?

Yes that should be enough time.

  • Is it enough time?
    Dec 23, 2014
I am arriving with Cathay to AMS at 06.55 (From MEL/HKG) and boarding a seperately bought flight with Easy Jet from AMS to GVA (Geneva) at 09.40am. I will need to collect my luggage and presume go through immigration/customs, will this be enough time to do this, collect luggage and check-in?? Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Santorini - AMS - MSP
    Dec 22, 2014
I will be flying from Santorini, Greece to AMS via Transavia. Scheduled to arrive at 3:10pm. Departing AMS to Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, USA via Delta at 5:00pm. Will this be enough time for a layover at AMS? It looks like both Transavia & Delta fly out of the main terminal. Will we have to go through customs? Thank you.

You will not have to go through customs upon arrival as both Greece and the Netherlands are in the Schengen Area. However, you will have to claim your bags as Transavia and Delta do not have an interline baggage agreement. You will then have to take them to the Delta counter to re-check. You will have very little time to do this, even if your flight from Santorini is on-time as you will then have to go through schengen exit passport control and security.

  • Customs
    Dec 19, 2014
Flying on Delta JFK/AMS /PRG. From the posts, I am unclear if I need to go through customs with my bags at AMS OR if the bags will be transferred automatically and I will just go through passport/security control twice without my bags. If I need to go through with my bags, there has been reference to using the green hall if I have nothing to declare. What are things that need to be declared? Thanks.

You will go through Schengen Passport Control when you enter the Schengen Pier of the terminal. You do not have to do anything with your baggage in Amsterdam.

  • agadir to houston
    Dec 17, 2014
I will by flying from Agadir to AMS by Transavia and connect next day to Houston USA. Do I need to pick up my luggage and go through Schengen Passport control and security ?

Yes, you do. Transavia will not transfer your bags to another airline unless you purchased the tickets together.

We would be flying in on Delta from Detroit to AMS. On seperate ticket will be flying to Berlin on Easy Jet. Will we have to get our luggage then recheck it? Is it in the same terminal?

Sorry, in my earlier post I assumed you were flying Delta/KLM on both segments. Since you purchased separate tickets, you will have to claim your baggage from Delta and re-check at EasyJet. 1 hr 10 minutes isn't enough time to do that. You need to find another way to Berlin.

Thank you! We were looking at two options. I think that we will stay on the same airlines. Don't want to have to pick up luggage then recheck. That flight did have 3 hours between flights. Wanted to make sure that KLM and Easy jet were in the same terminal.

Yes, Amsterdam only has one terminal.

  • Time between connections
    Dec 17, 2014
Will 1 hour and 10 mins be enough time. I will be flying in on delta to AMS and connecting to Berlin. Do we have to get our luggage?

Yes, you have plenty of time. You will go through Schengen Passport control and security when you enter the Schengen pier of the terminal. You do not have to do anything with your baggage.

    Thank you!

  • US - AMS - US connection
    Dec 15, 2014
Hi, I'll be flying from US to Amsterdam on the last leg of an itinerary that was bought in Amsterdam. Two hours later I'll be flying back to US on a separate itinerary which is the return leg of the itinerary bought in US. Is two hours enough time between arrival from an international flight to departure on another international flight? Will I have to go through Passport control to exit Arrivals area of Schiphol and then go through Passport control again to enter the Departures lounge or both the Arrivals & Departures (downstairs and upstairs) interconnected? I will have no checked baggage and reason for such a nested itinerary is because I want to use my upgrades before they expire soon and collect miles. Thank you very much for the help!

If you are able to check in online for your AMS-US flight you can go directly from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Otherwise you will have to exit to check in. However, since you have no checked baggage I'm pretty sure you will have enough time to do so.

  • 5 hours connection to non-schengen country
    Dec 15, 2014
I will be flying Rio de Janeiro to AMS, stay at AMS for 5 hours until I get the flight to Manchester, UK. I've heard that there is the "Iamsterdam" letters outside the airport, right in front its entrance, so I would like to take some photos, but I don't know if it is possible to get out for a minute from the airport as I'm traveling to a non-schengen country. It is possible? Thank you.

If you have a Schengen Visa, you could exit there. However, if you do not have a Schengen Visa then you cannot.

Yes, as a Brazilian I don't need Visa to any european country. Anyway I have double citizenship, so I have the italian passaport.
