My flight is from Spain to Singapore with transfer at Amsterdam for 7hr30min. I will like to take this time to explore the city. Is it possible for me to exit the immigration check point and enter again?

Yes, that should be possible. However you don't have a lot of time.

Do we need to pick up bags and check back in when we arrive in Amsterdam? Both flights were purchased together and both are on klm

No, you don't have to do anything with your bags in Amsterdam. You will just go through Schengen passport control.

I have a flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam connecting to another flight from AMS to Marseilles. Only 1 hour between flights. US Citizen. First flight is a KLM and second is Air France. What security/passport control will i have to do in AMS for this?

You will go through Schengen passport control, that's it.

I would be interested to know what the experience has been from anyone who has travelled on an American passport leaving AMS. How long approximately does it take from check in to getting to ones gate?

As a US citizen flying from Schiphol to Seattle on Delta/KLM...what is the process to get to the gate for departure? Checkin at Delta desk and then do I go downstairs to Passport control, then back upstairs to the PDC designated either D1 or E4 and then I get my boarding gate #?

Yes, that sounds about right, just follow the signs.

Hi, I am flying wit 20 students to Berlin from the Us with layover in Amsterdam. Will we have to collect our bags and go through customs, or will we just proceed through passport control? Thanks

You go through passport control and straight on to your gate.

Flying from Detroit to Bucharest via Amsterdam. Bringing a bike along with a couple bags (staying a 2-months in Romania). I see from other posts I may not need to transfer baggage thru customs. I spoke with Delta (all legs with them) and they said I would have to transfer the bags and bike. Said they have carts. This will still be difficult (a lot of stuff for one person). Can someone please advise from recent experience what I will need to do. I am worried with only 1h30m connection that it will be very difficult. Thank you!

You will not have to transfer your bags in Amsterdam. You won't even be entering the Schengen Area. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

ZAP: Thank you for your quick reply. I fly out on Thursday and knowing I don't have this to worry about is a big stress relief. Thank you.

I'm traveling from Manchester to Amsterdam to Edmonton. Will I have to go through customs in Amsterdam? My arriving flight, I will have 1 hour and 50 minutes on the ground. My return flight, I will be on the ground for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Is that enough time?

No, since you will not be entering the Schengen Area you will not go through passport control or customs in Amsterdam. you will have plenty of time for your connections.

I am a U.S. citizen traveling from Birmingham UK to Detroit USA with layover in AMS. I booked entIre flight through Delta although the first leg is run by KLM and the final is run by Delta. Will I need to collect my luggage at AMS and go through customs and passport control then recheck prior to the AMS to Detroit flight? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

No, all you have to do in Amsterdam is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will not have to go through passport control since you are not entering the Schengen Area

Many thanks ZAP. That is what I needed to hear.

My friend from Russia has Cariibean Netherlands visa, but unexperienced in foregn travel. I am a US citizen. Can I meet my friend in AMS at the gate from Moscow, so we together can board flight to Aruba? Can my friend stop in AMS in a hotel with Caribbean visa? If there is no answers - please advise where I can find them.

Since your friend is not entering the Schengen Area he will not be allowed to exit the non-schengen wing of the terminal. You MAY be able to get to his arrival gate, but there's no guarantee of that. It should not be hard for him to get from his arrival gate to his departure gate.

  • Connecting AMS to KRS - baggage?

My wife is flying MSP-AMS-KRS; MSP-AMS on Delta, AMS-KRS on KLM City. After arriving in AMS, will she only go through passport control? Will she have to collect baggage, customs, and re-check, or is baggage sent straight through to Kristiansand and only passport control and customs in Norway? She is traveling on a Brazilian passport.

No, she won't have to claim her baggage in AMS. She will go through Schengen passport control and security when she enters the departure pier for her KRS flight.

Hi, I am a US Citizen and I will be traveling from Atlanta to AMS to RAK in Marrakesh. Is 1 hour and 45 minutes enough time to connect in AMS? Thanks!

    Sorry, it is through KLM.

Yes, that should be enough time. As both flights are outside schengen all you have to do in AMS is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and go through security.

  • Non checked thro' flight, non-Schengen to non-Schengen

Upon arriving at Schipol, I will need to collect my baggage as it cannot be 'checked through' to my destination. After doing so, will I be required to pass thro' Immigration/Customs and then repeat to re-enter OR It is possible to collect my baggage and proceed directly to my next departure area?

Non-Schengen to non-Schengen flights don't require immigration proceedings. Pick up your bag on arrival, check it in with connecting airline, go through security check and on to your connecting gate.

Many thanks 'sumar14'! Your answer is exactly what I wanted and has prevented any problems upon arriving at Schipol. Now if only Schipol etc could be so efficient and as responsive?
