  • Do i need a short term visa?
    Jan 30, 2016

I am an Indian travelling from Qatar to Saint Martin via AMS by different flights QATAR and KLM. overnight layover . 1.Will I have to enter the Schengen area to pick up my luggage and check in for the next departure? 2. Is there any lockers available to park my luggage overnight as hotels in transit area do not allow checkin luggages? 3. Will I be needing a Visa for this transfer of flight? I would be grateful for a quick reply.

Yes, since you are on two separate itineraries you will need to enter the Schengen Area to make your connection and therefore need a full Schengen transit visa.

Suppose I don't have any check in luggages do I still need a Schengan visa?

If you don't have checked luggage you would just need a Schengen Airport Transit visa. You would get your St. Maarten boarding pass by going to the KLM Transfer desk a few hours before your flight.

My flight from MAN to AMS lands at 19:45 tomorrow. We are then going on a connecting flight - KL 0809 to Kuala Lumpur departing at 20:45 - will this connection be okay? Both flights are on the same booking and ticket.

Yes, that should be enough time. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Delta and KLM flight from ATL to Madrid

We only have one hour b/w landing on KLM airline in AMS to catch our Delta connection to MAD. It is one reservation - made through Delta- U.S. Passports. Is there enough time to make this connection? Many thanks

Note that your flight to Madrid will be operated by KLM. Yes, that is enough time. You will just have to go through Schengen passport control and to your departure gate.

Thank you so much - this is very helpful and a great relief. Many thanks!

Flying Delta, land 10:50am, fly out on KLM 11:55am, have checked bags. Do we have to go to customs, and is there enough time?

Where are you flying out on KLM to? I assume you're flying from somewhere in the US on Delta? I can't answer your question without knowing where you're going.

flying in from Salt Lake City, landing in Amsterdam, and 55 minutes later flying out to Bergen.

You will go through Schengen passport control in Amsterdam on your way to your departure gate. You don't have to do anything with your baggage. Your flight to Bergen will probably leave from a gate where you take a bus to your plane. You should have enough time.

    Thank you

  • different bookings, transfer time required

I have 2 seperate bookings. Glasgow-Amsterdam with klm and then onwards to dubrovnik with croatia airlines. I have been told 2 conflicting stories by klm. One said that i have to collect my luggage in amsterdam and re check in and the other told me that klm and croatia airlines have an agreement so i can request at gkadgow that my luggage goes straight through. Also, if i need to collect my luggage and check back in at amsterdam, is 2.5 hours enough? Many thanks

You can request that the KLM agent in Glasgow check your bags through by showing your Croatian confirmation but they are not required to. If they don't you still have enough time in Amsterdam to go through passport control, claim your bags, re-check them, and go through security.

  • Transit Visa

I am travelling from New Delhi to Amsterdam to Boston. I have a valid US Study Visa. Do I need transit visa?

No, Indian travelers with a valid visa to visit the US do not need a Schengen Transit visa for a sterile airport transfer (which is what is available in Amsterdam).

  • Do i need Valid Visa

I ma traveling to DEL from PDX via AMS. My US visa is expired. Can i travel without valid US visa ? or should i take transit visa

If you are an Indian citizen you will be denied boarding in Delhi unless you have a valid visa to enter the United States.

Sorry, I misread, so you are exiting the US after overstaying your Visa? You will need a schengen airport transit visa if you have Indian citizenship, since you no longer have a valid US visa.

  • TransAvia check in within security?
    Oct 25, 2015

Is there a Transavia checkin within security at Schiphol? I am coming from the US on a stand-by pass, and I have paid for checked bags on my confirmed Transavia flight to Seville.

You will be outside security when you claim your bags.

I will be traveling from ATL to PRG with a connection in AMS. My layover is 50 minutes. Is this enough time? What are the procedures I should expect?

  • Going to Aruba

My friend from Russia has Cariibean Netherlands visa, but unexperienced in foregn travel. I am a US citizen. Can I meet my friend in AMS at the gate from Moscow, so we together can board flight to Aruba? Can my friend stop in AMS in a hotel with Caribbean visa? If there is no answers - please advise where I can find them.

Since your friend is not entering the Schengen Area he will not be allowed to exit the non-schengen wing of the terminal. You MAY be able to get to his arrival gate, but there's no guarantee of that. It should not be hard for him to get from his arrival gate to his departure gate.

  • Connecting AMS to KRS - baggage?
    Aug 29, 2014

My wife is flying MSP-AMS-KRS; MSP-AMS on Delta, AMS-KRS on KLM City. After arriving in AMS, will she only go through passport control? Will she have to collect baggage, customs, and re-check, or is baggage sent straight through to Kristiansand and only passport control and customs in Norway? She is traveling on a Brazilian passport.

No, she won't have to claim her baggage in AMS. She will go through Schengen passport control and security when she enters the departure pier for her KRS flight.

  • ATL to AMS to RAK with Delta

Hi, I am a US Citizen and I will be traveling from Atlanta to AMS to RAK in Marrakesh. Is 1 hour and 45 minutes enough time to connect in AMS? Thanks!

    Sorry, it is through KLM.

Yes, that should be enough time. As both flights are outside schengen all you have to do in AMS is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and go through security.

  • Non checked thro' flight, non-Schengen to non-Schengen

Upon arriving at Schipol, I will need to collect my baggage as it cannot be 'checked through' to my destination. After doing so, will I be required to pass thro' Immigration/Customs and then repeat to re-enter OR It is possible to collect my baggage and proceed directly to my next departure area?

Non-Schengen to non-Schengen flights don't require immigration proceedings. Pick up your bag on arrival, check it in with connecting airline, go through security check and on to your connecting gate.

Many thanks 'sumar14'! Your answer is exactly what I wanted and has prevented any problems upon arriving at Schipol. Now if only Schipol etc could be so efficient and as responsive?
