I am a Russian citizen and a green card holder and I will be traveling with my American citizen husband to Saint-Petersburg Russia. Is 1 hour layover enough in AMS for us to catch the connecting flight and to go through the passport control? Thank you!

  • TIme to pick up luggage and clear customs
    Apr 20, 2015
Hi. A group of us are flying from Toronto to Amsterdam, arriving at 0655 on a Monday morning. I want to book a private shuttle to pick us up to take us for a tour as we can't check into our apartment until the afternoon. How long do I need to allow for us to pick up checked luggage and clear customs? I need to know what time to tell the shuttle to pick us up. Thanks.

We are flying from Detroit to AMS then on to Berlin. We have one hour between landing in AMS and the going to Berlin. Will that be enough time?

  • can baggage be checked all of the way through & enough connection time

I am flying MEX to AMS and then AMS to MAD, with the flights booked on separate tickets. Do you know if KLM will check my luggage all of the way through to MAD from MEX? If not, is 2 hours enough time in AMS to collect my luggage and recheck it to MAD?

  • Is 2 hours enough time for connection?
    Mar 5, 2015
Is 2 hours enough time to arrive on an International flight into AMS on KLM clear immigration and customs and connect to another KLM flight to Madrid? Our flight from MEX would arrive in AMS at 2:40pm and our flight from AMS to MAD would leave at 4:50pm.

That should be plenty of time. You will just have to go through Schengen passport control and security. You won't have to claim your baggage.

Thank you. Will I have to claim my luggage if tickets Mex to AMS, and AMS to MAD are purchased separately? And, if I do have to claim my luggage will 2 hours be enough time?

Yes, you will have to claim your luggage if they were purchased separately. In that case 2 hours is possible, but doesn't leave much time for delays. If both flights are on KLM can you can probably show your AMS-MAD confirmation to the agent in MEX and have your bags tagged through to MAD.

Since they are not entering the schengen area they will not go through passport control in Amsterdam, just security.

  • What is the process for MSP to AMS to FCO
    Oct 31, 2014
I am traveling Delta from Minneapolis to AMS and then Air Italia to Rome. Will I need to collect my bags and go through customs in AMS or when I get to Rome. I have 90 minutes between flight in AMS: will this be enough time. Any help with the entire process would be helpful. Wehn I get to Rome I have 1 hour before I have to catch my transport to the hotel.

In Amsterdam you will go through Schengen Passport control and security. You won't have to do anything with your bags. You should have enough time.

i will be arriving at AMS at 645 am from Kuala Lumpur. my second is to Aberdeen departing at 815 am. Both are KLM flights but the first is operated by Malaysian Airline MAS. Do I have enough time to catch the second flight with only 90 minutes since I need to get boarding pass and go through immigartion and security. thank you.

You will not have to go through Immigration since both Malaysia and the UK are outside the Schengen Area. You should be able to get your KLM boarding pass at the transfer desk if you don't already have it (since you bought both tickets together on a codeshare, Malaysian may be able to print it for you in KUL). You just have to go through security at your gate. You should have enough time.

  • AMS to Reggio tight connection
    Sep 23, 2013
We arrive on a Saturday morning at 7.50 on Delta into AMS. Depart 8.40 to Reggio on Alitalia. We are sitting in front of plane with carry on luggage. Is this enough time? Are their terminal far? And is it possible to check in with Alitalia thru Delta in NYC? So we have all boarding passes? Thx!

Alitalia does not fly from Amsterdam to Reggio. In fact, no airline does. Are you flying to Rome or Milan first? Check your reservation. Were all your tickets bought on the same reservation?

It is Alitalia to linate Milan. So I'm coming from NYC to AMS on delta w carry on sitting in front of plane. And going to Milan on Alitalia with 50 minute connection. Seperate reservation. Just wondering if where delta usually lands and Alitalia takes off if they are close or far terminals in AMS from one another? Is KLM closer to Delta terminal? Haven't bought within ticket yet. But trying to get to Sicily early on day. Is KLM or Alitalia a faster connection in AMS? Thx!!

  • Enough time to change plane

I will be flying on 14 October 2013 from Budapest to the US and will have 1 hour and 30 minute connection in Amsterdam. Flight KL 1972-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Departure Budapest HU 06:15 am, Arrival Ansterdam NL (Schiphol airoport) 08:20 Flight KL 1972-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Departure Budapest HU 06:15 am, Arrival Ansterdam NL (Schiphol airoport) 08:20 Flight KL 1972-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Departure Budapest HU 06:15 am, Arrival Ansterdam NL (Schiphol airoport) 08:20 Flight KL 1972-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Departure Budapest HU 06:15 am, Arrival Amsterdam NL (Schiphol airoport) 08:20 Flight KL 601 -KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Departure Amsterdam NL 09:50, Arrival Los Angeles , CA Is that enough time to change plane (pass control, find the gate, change the terminal if will be necessary...)

You have enough time for transfer. You are considered a 'Schengen' (domestic) arrival at AMS. Look at overhead screens to find your connecting flight & gate number. As you will connect to a non-Schengen flight (to U.S.) the security check will be at the gate. Transfers desks in the arrivals area offer transfer information. On arrival at LAX, you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags and go through customs clearance before exiting the terminal.
