CMI Airport Overview
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Willard Airport CMI - or simply 'Willard Airport' - is conveniently located off Interstate Hwys 57, 72 and 74 and State Hwy 45. It serves the residents of central Illinois who use the airport to connect to hundreds of destinations in the US and overseas. The airport is served by American and Delta Airlines offering flights to Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Detroit. It is also home to the private jet service 'FlightStar'. Willard Airport is one of only a few commercial airports in the country which is owned and operated by an educational institution. CMI Airport, named after a former University of Illinois president Arthur Cutts Willard, had its first scheduled airline service in 1954. The Airport also established its nationally recognized Institute of Aviation at Willard Airport in 1946. The University takes full advantage of training and research opportunities made possible by its location.
The passenger terminal offers a cafe, internet access in the departure lounge, an ATM machine and a conference room (available by appointment--Tel 217-244-8634). Parking is only $5/day. To get from the Airport to your destination, you can either rent a car there, take a taxi, limo, or public transportation. MTD buses operate 7 days a week (reduced Sunday schedule) during University of Illinois Fall and Spring Semesters and Summer Session. No Bus service on campus Holidays, during Fall and Spring Break, and the usual interim periods between Fall and Spring, between Spring and Summer and between Summer and Fall.
