Chania CHQ Airport Overview

Chania International Airport CHQ (also referred to as 'Souda Airport') serves the Greek island of Crete. It is one of two airports on Crete (the other being Heraklion Airport).

The Airport is located on the Akrotiri Penisula, near Souda Bay, on Crete Island.  In the summer season, late March to late October, the Airport is open 24/7.

With a long runway and an estimated 1.5 million passengers a year, Chania International is served by Greek airlines offering daiy flights into Athens & Thessaloniki, and by a most of international charters during the tourist season (May-October).

Chania International has one passenger terminal with a few amenities - one sit-down and one counter-only food & drink establishment, a newsstand & souvenir shop, and rental car desks. (About a hundred meters outside the Airport entrance is a sit-down cafe.)

Parking options at Chania International: The central carpark is for long- and short-term parking.  Parking spaces closest to the passenger terminal charge the highest fees.  There is also a carpark about 100 meters outside of the airport periphery, offering lower fees and a free shuttle bus to the terminal.  For more parking information call 282 10 66190.

To get from Chania Intrnational Airport to your destination, you can rent a car or take a taxi, which costs you up to 20 EU to town, or a shuttle bus. A public bus, running only 2-3 times a day, stops outside the Airport.  Travel agencies & local hotels provide their own shuttle service.
