  • LHR - CLT - MCO Connection Query

We are arriving into CLT from London UK, connecting to MCO (Orlando FL) next March. We have a 90 minute connection time. Is this sufficient as our agent says it will be on US Airways saying that 60 minutes would be the minimum requirement, but I am not so sure

Yes, it should be enough time. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. CLT is the smallest and simplest of the international hubs in the US.

We're travel on a Saturday in March from New Orleans to Charlotte, then catching a connecting flight to St. Lucia. We only have about one hour between arrival at CLT and departure for St. Lucia. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. CLT is not a very large airport and you only have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • TRANSFER TIME IS VERY SHORT

Arriving Charlotte on US Air from St Kitts on Sunday at 8.49pm transferring to a Washington (US Air express) flight departing 10.09pm. Am a Brit citizen. Will this be enough time. Do I have to pick up baggage and re-check. I understand the Washington flight is the last of the day

It's 10 minutes below the minimum connection time but you should be OK as Charlotte is not a large airport and immigration lines should be quite short at that time of day. Yes, you will have to claim your bags after going through Immigration, then go through Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk.

We are flying in from Jamaica into Charlotte tomorrow afternoon. Is an hour and 25 min enough time to get through customs, recheck our bags, security and get to our next flight??

    Yes, it should be.

We are flying with US Airways on Dec. 27 from DTW to MSY with a connection in CLT. This is our first time in CLT, first connecting flight, and first time with US Airways. Originally we had a one hour layover in CLT, but it has just been reduced to 34 minutes. Is it worth trying to make this connection, or should I try to change my flight now? If we miss the connection, how hard is it to get onto the next flight to MSY? Any advice from more seasoned fliers is appreciated. Thanks.

34 minutes is not long but it will depend on what gate you fly into and out of. I had to go from Gate E to Gate A and it was brutal, they are on opposite ends of the terminal. I started out on US Airways but unfortunately had to connect with AA. If your solo and in good shape you'll be fine, if you have children I would rethink it.

Flying US Airways from Wilmington to Punta Cana with an 80 minute layover. Are the international gates in a different part of the airport than domestic flights. How long to walk from one to the other?

Your transfer time is sufficient. US Airways uses Concourses/Gates B, C, D & E - simply check the overhead screens for your connecting flight & gate number, then follow signs to your Concourse & gate.

Your connection shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

Hi, i am an international traveller and i am a little bit worried if my connection time may be a little bit to short. i am coming from washington and i am going to san jose, costa rica, i have to change planes in charlotte and its just 35 minutes. Both flight will be operated by US Airways. Is it possible to be in time? thanks

Yes, it is possible, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. However, it obviously leaves very little time to spare in case of delays.

I am trying to verify whether 1:20 is sufficient time for a connection from Washington National through CLT to Rome Fiumicino. How much time is necessary for a nonUS citizen to clear immigration and change flights?

You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in Charlotte is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

We have a short layover. Can we find out what terminal we will arrive at and then take off from?

Charlotte only has one terminal and all gates are connected inside security.

She is flying into Charlotte from Jacksonville Florida and then into Albany NY

    She is flying USAir...sorry...

At CLT US Airways uses Concourses/gates B, D & E, while US Airways Express uses D & C. Her boarding pass and the overhead screens on arrival will indicate flight & gate number; then follow signs. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/clt, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Charlotte only has one terminal and all gates are connected inside security. It's a very easy airport to navigate.

  • Connection time: stopover in Charlotte (Newark to Indianapolis)
    Jul 20, 2014

Hi, I'm an international traveler flying from Newark (EWR) to Indianapolis (IND) on 13 August with a stopover in Charlotte. My port of entry in the USA is Newark. Do I have to collect my luggage and clear immigration and re-check my luggage at Charlotte for the next flight out to Indianapolis? The connecting time is about 1 hour 5 mins. Is there enough time to board the next plane? I'm flying with US Airways with the CLT-IND flight operated by Republic Airlines dba US Airways Express . Thanks.

You will go through US Immigration and customs in Newark. When you are on flights within the United States, you do not have to go through Immigration. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

When landing at CLT, you need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags where indicated. If you bought your flights on one ticket, or your first flight airline is affiliated with US Airways or American your bags will automatically be transferred. US Airways Express uses Concourses D & D; US Airways uses Concourses E, B D. JetBlue uses Terminal 5 (T5) - her connection to KLM flight is at T4 - connected by the 'Airline Terminals Train' running counter-clockwise between all terminals at their pre-security areas. However, pre-security areas of terminals do not have as much amenities & services (food, shops, entertainment) as post-security areas - only accessible after security check. I suggest you opens www.ifly.com/clt, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text. You have a short transfer time - if arriving at rush hours, you may not be able to make it.

Please ignore sajul's long and rambling and incorrect post. Since you will be entering the US In Newark you will go through US Immigration there.

Thank you for the reply! Appreciate it! :)

Hi, I'm 16 and I'm flying from Newark, (EWK) to Charleston, WV(CRW) on the 2nd of August on my own. I have a connection in Charlotte, NC but my connecting time is only 55 minutes. I've never flown on my own before, and never had a connection flight before. I'm really worried I'll miss my flight. Do you think I'll make it?

Charlotte is a very simple airport with just one terminal and all the gates connected inside security. However, you do have to be worried about your first flight being delayed and missing your connection since delays on flights in and out of Newark are very common. If you are not heavily delayed through you should have enough time. If you do miss your connection due to a delay you will be booked on the next flight to Charleston. Unfortunately, if there aren't any other flights to Charleston that day you will have to spend the night in the airport as the airline is not allowed to get hotel rooms for people under 16.

  • Connecting Flight from the UK

Hi, we will be arriving in to Charlotte from Manchester UK on the 1st August for a connecting flight to RSW, Ft Myers. Will we need to collect our luggage clear immigration and then re-check in luggage or will it be tagged all the way to RSW ? We are flying with US Airways on both tickets. Thanks for any advise.

Yes, after you arrive in CLT you will go through US Immigration, claim your luggage, go through US Customs, then you can re-check your baggage with US Airways at the re-check desk. Then you will go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate for your flight to RSW.

Thank you for you reply. We have a 3 hour 40 layover so plenty of time to clear immigration and customs and enjoy the airport food outlets!
