  • Is TSA rescreening needed when passing thru CLT on way back from DUB

I will be making a connection in CLT coming from DUB Dublin IE. I will go through passport control in DUB. When I get to CLT I assume I will go through customs then. Will I have to exit and reenter through TSA to get to my connection to DFW? Thanks

No, you will also clear US Customs in DUB. All you have to do in CLT is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

i have friend who are flying from Omaha tomorrow into Charlotte where they connect before continuing onto Jamica. Their connection time is 1 hr and they plan to check their bags in Omaha. Should they run into any issues with with regards to time? And will they have to reclaim their bag in Charlotte given the international transfer?

On their way to Jamaica they won't have to claim their bags in charlotte. Just walk from their arrival gate to their departure gate. They should have enough time if their first flight is on-time.

  • Friends connecting in Charlotte from Toronto Canada to San Juan

Hi, I have friends who are flying Toronto Canada to San Jaun with a connection at Charlotte airport. They are pretty nervous as they rarely fly alone. They have a connection time of 2 1/2 hours. Will they need to claim their luggage before proceeding on to San Juan? Is it pretty easy to navigate this airport and find their right gates. Thanks

Forgot to say...they are flying US airways

They will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. In Charlotte all they have to do is walk from their arrival gate to their departure gate. Charlotte only has one terminal and all the gates are connected inside security. They have PLENTY of time.

I just found out there is a Nascar race march 01...will there be a big congestion at the Charlotte airport. They arrive 8:30 in the morning leaving around 11:30am

There is no NASCAR race in Charlotte on March 1. The race that weekend is in Atlanta. The teams all take private planes to the races, or since Atlanta is pretty close to Charlotte, most people will drive there. It won't affect the Charlotte airport at all.

Hi, I arrive from Grand Cayman at 4.28pm on a Thursday and fly to Philadelphia at 5.35pm same day. I am a British citizen. Will I have enough time to make the transfer - do I need to clear customs and so i need to collect my bags and re check them in?

Yes, you need to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security. It will be very difficult to make that connection as the minimum recommended time is 90 minutes. However, US Airways has lots of flights from Charlotte to Philadelphia that you can be rebooked on if you miss your connection.

I have 90 mins lay over time from London to Tampa & I am non US citizen. Would this time be sufficient for transfer.

Yes, that should be enough time, bit if your flight from London is late you might have some trouble.

If the flight from London to Charlotte is late, will the carrier transfer us to the next flight?

    Yes, they will.

Does grand cayman have pre- clearance to the U.S.?

No, it does not. The only locations in the Caribbean that do are Nassau, Freeport, Aruba, and Bermuda (if you consider that part of the Caribbean). And of course you do not need a passport to visit St. Thomas, St. Croix, or Puerto Rico.

Arriving on a Saturday afternoon from london on a non us passport with 1hr 27 mins connection time for flight to FT Myers. Is this enough time to clear immigration, customs etc and make connecting flight?

That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Although Saturday afternoons in the springtime can be busy as that is when many flights from the Caribbean arrive and have to go through immigration as well.

    Dec 30, 2015

Will be arriving in Terminal C Gate 16 and transferring to Terminal E Gate 10. Is 53 minutes enough time for this transfer assuming my incoming flight is on time?

Charlotte only has one terminal. All gates are connected inside security. Yes, if your first flight is domestic that is enough time.

  • Worried about layover time and customs

I'm flying in from Ottawa, Canada to Charlotte then from Charlotte to Miami. I'm flying US Airways all the way but my layover time is only 43 minutes. Do I go through customs in Ottawa or Charlotte, and if I have to go through customs in Charlotte, do I have enough time to go through customs and make my connecting flight? Also, do I need to re-claim my bags in Charlotte and re-check them in?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Ottawa. All you have to do in Charlotte is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time./

  • LHR - CLT - MCO Connection Query

We are arriving into CLT from London UK, connecting to MCO (Orlando FL) next March. We have a 90 minute connection time. Is this sufficient as our agent says it will be on US Airways saying that 60 minutes would be the minimum requirement, but I am not so sure

Yes, it should be enough time. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. CLT is the smallest and simplest of the international hubs in the US.

We're travel on a Saturday in March from New Orleans to Charlotte, then catching a connecting flight to St. Lucia. We only have about one hour between arrival at CLT and departure for St. Lucia. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. CLT is not a very large airport and you only have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • TRANSFER TIME IS VERY SHORT
    Dec 4, 2014

Arriving Charlotte on US Air from St Kitts on Sunday at 8.49pm transferring to a Washington (US Air express) flight departing 10.09pm. Am a Brit citizen. Will this be enough time. Do I have to pick up baggage and re-check. I understand the Washington flight is the last of the day

It's 10 minutes below the minimum connection time but you should be OK as Charlotte is not a large airport and immigration lines should be quite short at that time of day. Yes, you will have to claim your bags after going through Immigration, then go through Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk.

We are flying in from Jamaica into Charlotte tomorrow afternoon. Is an hour and 25 min enough time to get through customs, recheck our bags, security and get to our next flight??

    Yes, it should be.

  • Connection Time just shortened by airline

We are flying with US Airways on Dec. 27 from DTW to MSY with a connection in CLT. This is our first time in CLT, first connecting flight, and first time with US Airways. Originally we had a one hour layover in CLT, but it has just been reduced to 34 minutes. Is it worth trying to make this connection, or should I try to change my flight now? If we miss the connection, how hard is it to get onto the next flight to MSY? Any advice from more seasoned fliers is appreciated. Thanks.

34 minutes is not long but it will depend on what gate you fly into and out of. I had to go from Gate E to Gate A and it was brutal, they are on opposite ends of the terminal. I started out on US Airways but unfortunately had to connect with AA. If your solo and in good shape you'll be fine, if you have children I would rethink it.
