HI. Traveling to London Heathrow (Jax to CLT to Heathrow). Will have a 3+ hour layover in CLT . Looks like same airline continuously (AA as operated by US Air.). So, when I arrive in CLT, do I just go to next connecting flight or do I have to pick up luggage, re-check them, go through customs, and then board flight to Heathrow? First time int'l traveler. I'm sure I have plenty of time, but unsure of process for connecting flight and what to anticipate. I'm guessing that customs is not required at this point. right?? Thx in advance.

On your way to Heathrow all you have to do in Charlotte is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security.

I am traveling with a disabled companion arriving in an American domestic flight and transferring to a US Air Express to traveling to Toronto, CA. I have an hour between flight arrival and departure will that be enough time to get to US Air gates?

Yes, that should be enough time. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security.

  • Land in CLT, have 1 hour until flight to Aruba leaves...

If everything is on time, we should be in CLT for 1 hour. I need to catch a flight to Aruba. What all do I need to do? Recheck bags and such? Is this enough time?

All you need to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security and there is no US Customs when leaving the US.

  • Is an hour and 20 minutes enough?

In June, my family will take the American flight from Barcelona arriving in Charlotte, NC at 18:35. Our connecting flight to Tampa departs at 19:55. Is this enough time to get through passport control, collect bags, clear customs and make the connection? All advice welcomed.

That's 10 minutes shorter than the recommended time, but I think if your flight from Barcelona is on-time you'll be OK.

  • International transfer as part of Orlando to London journey

Hi, I am a UK citizen travelling with my family from Orlando to London with a 90 min stopover in CLT. From checking the other forum posts on here there are comments about getting off at 1 gate and just going straight to the international (London in this case) one. However as a UK citizen (and I guess it applies to all international passengers), I have to clear US customs / immigration somewhere dont I? The flight from Orlando to CLT is going to be a domestic one. My question is I suppose, is 90 mins enough time to get from my orlando flight (having landed) to my international flight to London? many thanks.

No, there is no US Immigration or customs upon exiting the US. The airline records your passport details and transmits it to immigration, letting them know you left. Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do in Charlotte is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm flying through CLT next week from Heathrow tonOrlnado.mthe connection time is 85 minutes and we land at 1500. Is this a realistic timeframe to clear customs, recheck bags and make our connecting flight?

That's 5 minutes shorter than the recommended time, but it's certainly feasible.

1st flight lands in CLT at 7:24pm, flight 2 departs at 8:00pm. both flights are US Airways and both are domestic. Can I make the connection?

origin is Newark NJ and destination is Las Vegas

Yes, if the first flight is on-time that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security.

What if the flight is delayed and I am going to miss the second flight? Will I be taken care of by the airline and given a new flight?

Yes, you will be booked on the next available flight and may be routed over another US Airways or American hub, such as Phoenix or Dallas.

  • Time between connections

Hi, Im traveling from Barcelona to Washington DC. I need to go throught Charlotte and I only have 1:10 hours between flights. Woudl this time be enought to do the transfer between arriving international (customs) and taking the next local flight? Thanks

That is 20 minutes shorter than the recommended international to domestic connection time. It's possible, but it will be difficult. If you miss it US Airways has lots of flights from Charlotte to DCA.

On Monday 6/8 we have a 4 min layover in CLT from Houston to NYC. On U.S. Airways flight that stows carryons apparently. Would it be better to check out bags so they have to transfer them? And decrease our chances of missing? The flights were booked together. Will they hold the connecting if the 1st leg is delayed?

    Sorry 40 min layover

They do not hold flights. You should have enough time even if you have carry-ons. All you have to do is walk from one gate to another. If you miss your connection US Airways has lots of flights from Charlotte to New York. FYI "GUA" is the airport code for Guatemala City. New York LaGuardia is LGA.

Thanks. I couldn't remember and was too lazy to look. 😜

Hi I am travelling home from MCO to Dublin with a connection in CLT. Both flights are with US Airways. I have 50 minutes between flights. Is that enough time to move between gates

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be enough time. All gates in Charlotte are connected inside security.

  • Distance from Terminal 3 to?
    Jun 2, 2015

Hi. Am flying in to Charlotte from Chicago, arriving Terminal 3. meeting family who are flying in from UK. Am finding to hard to establish a) what terminal or concourse (are these inter-changeable words?) they arrive at and b) how long it will take me to get to them. Are all of the terminals / concourses directly linked, i.e. can I simply walk from Terminal 3 to there arrival terminal? Thanks. Am assuming Concourse A is Terminal 1 etc but different terminology is used by different websites!

Charlotte only has one terminal and all gates in Charlotte are housed in the same building and connected inside security. Chicago has a Terminal 3. perhaps that's what has you confused.

We are flying to Barcelona to catch a cruise. We fly PNS to CLT to BCN. We have a 4-1/2 hour layover, so that is good. My question is whether we have to claim our baggage in CLT and then go back through international security to fly to BCN? I've never flown internationally before, so any information you can provide is very helpful.

No, you will not have to claim your bags in Charlotte. In the US there is no such thing as "International Security". All you have to do in Charlotte is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! My traveling companion is in a wheelchair, so I just wanted to plan out our time in Charlotte and allow for going back through security, if necessary. You have been very helpful.

Hi, my husband and I are traveling from Montego Bay to Charlotte in June with a 4:40PM arrival time. We only have a 76 minute timeframe between flights. After speaking with a friend, I am now incredibly worried that we will miss our second flight leaving Charlotte to Portland, Maine, because of two reasons. One, I now know that we should have planned on a 90 minute time frame to get through customs, etc. Two, we did not book with the same airline for the two flights from Montego Bay (American Airlines to CLT & US Airways to PWM). I am hoping for some guidance here. If we miss our flight from CLT to PWM due to having to go through customs will the airline help with getting us home if it is not considered a connecting flight, or are we on our own? Can you tell I'm stressing out? Thanks for any help you can provide. I appreciate your time.

Both of your flights will actually be operated by US Airways. Yes, the airline will try to book you on the next flight to Portland if you miss your connection due to delays at customs. However, that flight may not be until the next day.

  • MBJ - CLT - MSP - short layover in Charlotte

Hi, I have just over an hour layover between when my flight from Montego bay arrives in Charlotte, and when my next flight departs for Minneapolis. Both are on US Airways, but I'm worried that we won't have enough time to get through customs and then security, even if we just carry on our luggage. (no checked bags). Will we make it if everything is on time?

Correct, the minimum time for that connection is 90 minutes and if you only have 60 that's pretty much impossible with checked bags. Without checked bags you might be able to make it. However, you should be able to contact your travel agent or US Airways to get rebooked because that is a clearly illegal connection.

I was just reading your reply to this poster. My situation is similar. What do you mean by "illegal connection"? My husband is entering the US for the first time, and I didn't even think that it may take longer, usually I have direct flights to my destination.
