  • RECOMMENDED LAYOVER FOR DOMESTIC FLIGHT AT ORD AND EWR
    Sep 22, 2016

We are planning a trip with a layover from LAX to either ORD or EWR. Before I make the reservation could you give me your recommended layover for ORD or EWR considering their airport connections on United. Thanks

ORD is a bit less delay prone. Also in Newark some connections between United and United Express require taking a shuttle to another terminal. At ORD all United gates are walkable inside security.

Thanks for the answer about ORD airport. How much time would you recommend for a domestic layover at ORD and LAX on United? I do not want to worry about missing a flight as we will be making three flights in one day. Thanks

I'll be flying to Dayton from Des Moines, layover in Chicago. both flights are with United. Is 1h15 layover enough? I am an EU citizen. Do I have to go through immigration again and re-check my baggage? Thanks!

Fly with United from Boston at 9{20, arrival ORD at 11:01 with 1 h: 47 min layover. Then transfer w/ United (ticket already on hand) to Beijing. Since often delay in ORD, I wonder the time enough or not? How about the distance between the two terminal ? Gates ? .

You don't have to change terminals. Both flights will be in Terminal 1. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

I have a layover from Narita to ORD (ANA) and a connecting flight with United to Columbus, Ohio with 2 hours to make the connection. I am not a US citizens travelling with Visa, do you think 2 hours is enough given it is a single reservation?

That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I get into to Chicago and have 45 mins to make my flight to Toronto. It says I have to change terminals. Is this enough time? I am Canadian and checking no bags.

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • 10 hour layover

flying from Knoxville tn on 9/3 on way to Dublin. 10 hour layover. that is labor day weekend. should we consider leaving the airport?

You can. The CTA Train takes about an hour to get from O'Hare to downtown. You'll want to be back at O'Hare about 2.5 hours before your flight.

thanks for your response. we lived in Naperville for 25 years before moving to Tennessee. I really didn't explain my question well. I know that realistically there is time to go to the city.....I am concerned about labor day weekend airport crowds and new security protocol. flew last year to Paris, but do much has happened since then. I assume our luggage will be checked thru from Knoxville to Dublin, but one never knows.

There is no "new security protocol" and labor day isn't a busy travel day.

  • Layover 1 hour 55 min

Flying from Denver, Colorado (American Airlines) to take flight to Abu Dhabi. Does transit time 1 hour 55 min is sufficient to take the next flight? Do I need to go for security screening again at Chicago airport?

If both flights are on the same reservation that is just enough time. Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5.

I will be taking a train from STL to chicago and will have about 8 hours before my flight. Are there any ideas on where/how i can store my bags during this time?

There is no baggage storage at O'Hare.

  • Transit in ORD, can i exit?

I'll be travelling from Dallas to Singapore, with a 7 hours layover in ORD. Can I actually exit from the ORD airport to visit the city and come back 2 hours before depature to Singapore? Thanks.

Yes, you can go where you want, although 7 hours isn't a ton of time. It takes an hour to get downtown and another hour to get back and you need to get back 2 hours before your flight, so that leaves only 2-3 hours.

  • Cancun to ORD to FWA

I'll be flying back from Cancun and have an option of a 2hr+ layover in ORD before my connecting flight to FWA (terminal change). Is that enough time? Or should I take the overnight layover? If I do the overnight layover do I have to pick up my baggage?

2+ hours should be enough time. Either way you have to pick up your baggage.

Hello, I am planning to fly to India in december and i will be flying from Pittsburgh. Its Pittsburgh to Chicago to Abu dhabi and India. I have a 2 and half hour layover in Chicago. The flight is on December 18, Sunday. Will that be enough time to go through security and board my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Pittsburgh is on-time.

Hello - Im flying Kansas City - Chicago, then Chicago - Munich, both flights are arriving/departing at Terminal 1 and ill have a carry-on bag. My layover time is about 1h. Will I need to go through security again? Is my layover time enough?

No, you do not have to go through security again. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • 80 minutes layover enough?
    Jul 18, 2016

Hello, I am looking to book a flight from Pittsburgh to London through ORD. The layover time is 1 hour 20 minutes. The PGH>ORD flight is operated by American and the ORD>LHR is operated by British. I am a European citizen, so on my way out there is no need for customs. Will 80 minutes suffice? Thank you!

The code for Pittsburgh is PIT, not PGH. Yes, that should be enough time. You will either have to take the shuttle inside security between T3 and T5 (it unfortunately runs infrequently) or take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and go through security.

  • Is 90min layover time enough

I am travelling from Mumbai to roanoke and have through checkin via O'Hare. I will be having immigration at O'Hare itself and then have to take a flight to Roanoke. Are 90mins enough?

There are no nonstop flights from Mumbai to O'Hare. Please double check your reservation and post your exact routing including airlines. I cannot help you with the limited information you have provided.

My flight is from Mumbai to Zurich and from Zurich to O'Hare. I reach O'Hare at 12:25pm and have another flight to Roanoke at 1:55pm

OK, so yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then if your bags are tagged through to ROA (if everything is the same reservation they should be), you can drop your bags at the re-check desk, then go up 2 levels and take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 or 2 where your flight to Roanoke will depart if it is on United Express (check the moniitors - gate starting with B or C is Terminal 1, E or F is Terminal 2), then go through security and to your departure gate. 90 minutes is the bare minimum for an international to domestic connection through O'hare and is less than what I recommend, but it's not impossible if things go smoothly.

Will I have to reclaim my bags and do a re checkin?

Given that I have booked the whole journey from Mumbai to Roanoke on United airlines itself, will I have to reclaim the bags and do the rechecking and stuff or United will do it on itself. Because as per my conception, I only have to do the immigration and go on for the security check and then depart.

Yes, as I said, you need to claim your bags in Chicago in order to go through US Customs. You can then immediately drop your bags off at the re-check desk. Your conception is incorrect.

  • Overnight in ORD, do I have to check in again?

Hi, I am arriving in ORD at 23:33 from Washinton-Dulles on my way to Memphis and my connection leaves at 8:55 the next morning. My ticket states I will have to pay the baggage fee again for the second flight which leads me to believe I will have to pick up my bags upon arrival that first night and re-check them the next morning. Is this right? So will i then be able to leave and get a hotel or can I stay at the airport? I got these tickets with miles as one trip and it stated an overnight in ORD, I was not aware of the particularities...I would prefer getting a hotel for a few hours of sleep but am unsure of what I can and cannot do in terms of leaving secured area, getting bags, etc...

Yes, that is correct. You can stay in a hotel or in the airport. Check in will open again at 3:15, so you won't have to wait too long. You will already be outside the secure area to claim your bags.
