Both of your flights will be in Terminal 1, either concourse B or C. The two concourses are connected by a short tunnel with moving walkways. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get between your gates, even with the kids.

Yes, they are. (Air Berlin arrivals are in Terminal 5, but departures are in Terminal 3).

Terminals 1 & 2 have a walkway at post-security areas of the departures level - follow signs - you will arrive at your departure terminal T1's upper level. (Only international arrivals at US airports need to go through customs). Both United & Lufthansa are members of the Star Alliance - your bags will automatically be transferred. Note: your domestic United flight arrives in T2, your international Lufthansa flight departs from T1 which has Concourses B & C with corresponding gates.

Lufthansa flights leave from Terminal 1, not Terminal 2. If your first flight is on-time and your Lufthansa flight does in fact leave at 10:35 PM you should have enough time.

You will have to change terminals by taking the ATS train from T1 or T2 to T5 for your departure on Swiss. The connection will take you 30-40 minutes so there's very little room for error.
