  • Help with transfer time 1:30
    Sep 24, 2016
Hi! We are planning a flight from VIE to SJO with a stopover in ORD (arrival 16:00 with Swiss; departure 17:30 with United). Is 1:30 enough to reach the connecting flight? Do we have to go through security/immigration (EU citizen) etc.? And is the luggage checked through (since both airlines are in the Star Alliance)? Thanks!

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 go through security and to your departure gate. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. Be prepared to be stuck in Chicago if there are any delays at all. If you miss your connection you will likely either spend the night in Chicago and then fly to Houston and then San Jose the next morning or fly to Houston that night, spend the night there, and fly to San Jose the next morning.

  • 45 minutes to connect flights
    Sep 22, 2016
I'll be traveling from Indy to Chicago with a 45 min. layover then on to Tampa. Will I have enough time to get off the first plane and board the second?

    What airlines are you flying?

  • 40 min to transfer from T2 to T1
    Sep 21, 2016
My husband's flight from Indianapolis lands at 10.19am, T1. He has to connect to an ANA flight to Tokyo leaving from T2 at 11am. Bags will be through checked and he is flying business. I know he doesn't have to clear security but is this enough time? Is walking the quickest way?

You have the terminals reversed. He will arrive in T1 or T2 and depart from T1. Walking is the quickest way. He has enough time.

    Thank you.

  • ORD Airport Security Requirements for Connecting Flights
    Sep 19, 2016
I am flying from Toronto to Hong Kong connecting through ORD. Will be flying American for the YYZ-ORD segment and Cathay for the ORD-HKG segment. Will land in ORD in T3 and depart from ORD in T5. I have one piece of checked baggage. Everything is on one reservation. Upon arrival in Chicago, do I have to claim my checked baggage and drag it all the way to terminal 5 to have it re-screened and re-checked at the CX counter? I will have 2 hours. Do I have enough time? Many thanks for your help.

You don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. You just take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and go through security. You should have enough time if your flight from Toronto is on-time.

  • distance of arrival terminal and gate, then transfer terminal /gate ?
    Sep 19, 2016
Fly w/United Ft. 1472 from Bos. at 10:15am, arrival ORD at 12pm. layover 50 min. Then take Ft.851 to Peking. what is the distance between these tow terminal and gate ? Number of them ? layover time enough ?

Both flights are in Terminal 1. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

Arriving at terminal 3 to terminal 1 to ALL Nippon Airways depart to Tokyo .. 2 separate tickets with 1 checked in luggage.. Could I make it on time with check in and security? Thanks

That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Arriving domestically to terminal 2, departing internationally from terminal 5, ~3 hours later. 2 separate tickets/itinaries. Will that be enough time to collect bags from T2 and recheck to T5? Also, returning, will 2 hours be enough to go through customs and recheck bags? Will I be able to check them at the counter beyond customs if not ticketed all the way through?

Yes, that should be enough time on the way there but on the way back no, that is not enough time. You will have to take your bags to the United check-in counter in T1 to re-check your bags.

  • Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 - Have to go through security again?
    Sep 13, 2016
Arriving at ORD at 2:20 on AA into Terminal 3, connecting to ANA flight to Tokyo at 4:15 in Terminal 1. No bags. About 2 hours. Is there a walkway between terminals? Or will I have to take the ATS and go through security again? Will 2 hours be sufficient for this transfer? Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a walkway inside security from T3 to T2 and then T2 to T1. YOu have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • International connection and customs
    Sep 13, 2016
We are leaving from Denver to chicago to south korea as the final destination and i did read that there is only customs when entering the US but not for leaving is this correct or is there another security or customs in chicago? Help!

Yes, that is correct regarding customs. However, you will have to go through security again in Chicago as the two airlines that fly nonstop from Chicago to Korea depart from Terminal 5 and that terminal is not connected to the domestic terminals inside security.

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 connection - United/Aer Lingus Codeshare
    Sep 11, 2016
I booked a codeshare flight United/Aer Lingus from Columbus to ORD to Dublin. 1) When I get to ORD, do I need to get my luggage, re-check it, & go thru Security or will my baggage go all the way thru to Dublin? 2) I have 1 hr, 40 min layover time at ORD. Will I have enough time?

Your bags will go straight through. You just have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security.

Plenty of time; how to connect betwn terminals?

PS - no checked bag, just rollaboard

If your United flight is domestic you can just walk inside security from Terminal 1, through Terminal 2, to Terminal 3.

    Super EZ! Thanks!

  • Are Termial 5 and Terminal 1 connected in the Secure Zone?
    Sep 9, 2016
My Friends will be leaving ORD to BLR from Terminal 5 at 12:55pm and I am flying to SEA from terminal 1 at 3pm. As I have no plans in Chicago, I will be entering the airport (clearing security in Terminal 1. I can also clear security in Terminal 5 if it is allowed) around 9am. Will I be able to go to terminal 5 and hang out with them till their boarding time? I can do this in other airports such as IAH as Terminal D is connected with the other terminals.able to go to terminal 5 and hang out with them till their flight departs?

No they are not connected in the secure zone. You will not be able to go through security in Terminal 5.

  • Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 in less than 1 hour?
    Sep 9, 2016
I have a Unied flight from Austin to ORD arriving in Concourse E in Terminal 2. Have a connecting international flight on Air India in Terminal 5. Have only 55 mins layover. Will I have enough time to exit Terminal 2, take the ATS to terminal 5, and go through security in time to catch the connecting international flight? My bags should already be checked all the way through.

That will be very very difficult.

  • Layover time and luggage rechecking
    Sep 8, 2016
Hello, I am travelling from Rome to Toronto, with United and will land at 4:15 pm at terminal 5, with my next flight to Toronto (flight bought on the same ticket, both with United) at 5:31 pm terminal 1. I have 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach my flight. Will my luggage be delivered to Toronto directly without rechecking it? Is there enough time to catch my connecting flight? Thank you!

No, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to T1 and go through security. You do not reasonably have enough time. 90 minutes is the bare minimum with at least 2 hours recommended.
