  • Enough time for connection

I am flying on 7/10 from Erie PA to ORD. I have 50 mins. to make my connection from ORD to Denver - all United. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will likely arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1. There is a walkway inside security between Terminal 2 and Terminal 1. There is a chance you will arrive in Terminal 1, which makes your transfer even easier.

  • Connection time from Terminal 3 to 5

My American Airlines flight lands at Terminal 3 at 9:10 PM with a connecting flight to Helsinki on Finnair from Terminal 5 at 10:00 PM. What is the quickest way to get to Terminal 5 from Terminal 3 and can it be done in 50 minutes? This is one itinerary and I'm a US citizen.

You have to take the ATS Train and go through security in T5. That late at night it should be possible but depends on your AA flight arriving on-time.

Thank you for responding! I was able to take an earlier flight to avoid possibly missing my connection.

My english non-speaking parents are traveling from Indianapolis airport to kathmandu. They will land in terminal 3 ORD at 11:30 AM and they have connecting flight of etihad airlines at 1:05 PM from terminal 5. I have requested ramp wheel chair for one of my parents. I am wondering if any assistant will be available from the airport to receive them at terminal 3 and take them to terminal 5. The transit time is only 90 min and i don't think they can go from T3 to T5 by themselves. What shall I do? Please suggest

Yes, the wheelchair service should escort them to Terminal 5. They should have enough time.

Thank you. I hope they will be received on time as soon as they land in ORD airport.

Hi I have a flight from OrD to SFO which is connecting to international from there. Flight is 1050am from T1 with United. How much time in advance should i reach ORD, as I need to check in bags and get boarding due to onwards international flight. Is July 4 morning expected to be busy? Many thanks in advance

Usually July 4 itself is a very slow day since nobody is traveling for business. You will be OK arriving at the airport at about 9:30-9:40.

    many thanks 😄

I'll be arriving from Ottawa at ORD in Terminal 2 at 6:10pm later today, and will be flying out to San Diego in Terminal 1 at 7:24pm, 1h14m. Should I walk or take the shuttle I heard goes from concourse E (T2) to Concourse C (T1)? Also I don't think I have to re-check bags and go through security again, since I will be clearing that in Canada. Any confirmation/clarification though?

forgot to say that both flights are with United Airlines, and to add that security AND customs will already be cleared by the time I arrive in ORD.

Walk - the shuttle runs infrequently. Correct you don't have to do anything with your bags or go through security in Chicago. There's also a chance your flight from Ottawa will arrive in Terminal 1, making your connection even easier.

I will fly from BWI to ORD then PEK next week. All flights are United and on one ticket. UA1450 will arrive at ORD on 11:19AM and UA851 will depart from ORD on 1:05PM. What terminals do I walk from and to? Do I have enough time to go through security check with my carry-on baggage and customs clear? My checked-in baggage will be claimed at destination PEK. Thanks

Yes, that is plenty of time. Both flights will be in Terminal 1. you do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, no security necessary.

I will arrive ORD Terminal 5 (ANA) from NRT on 26th July. At 08.25.. Connecting flight at Terminal 1 by UA to BOS at 11.01. Is it enough time as I understand that I need to clear immigration and claim luggage. I need to bring my luggage along to travel on ATS. Thanks

If your tickets were purchased together on one reservation your bags should be tagged through to BOS and you can re-check them right after customs in Terminal 5 and not have to bring them with you on the ATS. You should have enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Booking through company's travel desk. There are 2 booking reference no, one for NH, other for UA. It means I need to tag along my luggage from T5 to T1. Thanks

My daughter is returning in late July from a year as an exchange student in Germany. I have to get her from Chicago to Detroit. Her United flight arrives at 12:45pm. How much time do I need to allow for customs? I'm assuming she will have to collect her bags and then recheck them. Last week she had ACL/meniscus surgery so I want to make it as easy on her as possible. There is a 3pm United flight, but it jumps almost $200. If she has to recheck her ags anyway, what other airline is very close to United? Thank you for any suggestions.

She will arrive into Terminal 5 at O'Hare (the international terminal). There she will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, and go through US Customs). If you purchase another United flight it can probably be joined to the first flight in which case 90 minutes would be the minimum connection time. If you purchase a flight on another airline, such as American or Delta, then she will have to transfer her bags herself to Terminal 3 (American) or Terminal 2 (Delta) and pay a checked bag fee and would need at least 2 hours, preferably a little more. You could also look at United flights to Flint if you live north of Detroit.

Arriving fro Istanbul Turkish Air at5:50pm , connection United at 7:30pm. Two different tickets. Enough time?

Since you purchased two separate tickets it will be very difficult. I would either book another flight or show your United confirmation to the Turkish agent in your origin city and ask for your bag to be tagged through to your United flight. Also check-in online for your United flight before you leave your origin. It's possible, but it depends on everything going perfectly.

  • International Transfer from Lufthansa to Unite din 1:15?

Hello, we are a family with three small kids and have a Lufthansa flight LH436 from Germany to ORD that gets in at 3PM (I assume Terminal 5) and leaves with United to Denver UA459 at 4:15PM (I assume Terminal 1). The flight to Den was recently moved forward after we had booked, and now we are wondering if it is possible to make the second flight? From what I have read here we will have to collect our bags, go through customs (US citizens), drop off the bags, and take the train to Terminal 1. Do we have to go through security again in Terminal 1, or can we just go then to the gate? I read somewhere else that the minimum connection time for I/D is 1:30 (but that might be for AA flights?). Is the 1:15 even possible?

and this is on Sat. July 4th. Is that a busy travel day?

July 4 itself is usually not a busy travcel day. Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 1. Yes, the Minimum time is 1:15 minutes, but on July 4, 1 hr 15 may be possible. If you miss it, United has almost hourly flights from Chicago to Denver.

Next week we're flying to Amsterdam from Phoenix with connections in Chicago and London. If the flight from Phoenix arrives on time, can both us and our luggage make the connecting flight to London in 90 minutes or less. I understand we need to leave and re-enter the secure area. Why do airlines schedule these connections so tight?

    What airlines are you flying?

American Airlines to Chicago. Then going on British Airways

British Airways has a shuttle bus inside security between Terminal 3 and Terminal 5 for British Airways passengers coming from American. You might want to take that.

Arriving 1915 with mother immigrant. Can we make a 2052 connection? If risky, would United rebook a later flight without change fee?

97 Minutes is above the minimum connection time, so they won't change your booking now. If you miss your connection because the first flight is late, then they will rebook you on the next available flight, which, depending on your destination, may not be until the next morning. If you provide more i

If you provide more info on your itinerary I can help you more (like where you are coming from, where you are going, and what airlines you are flying).

I am arriving on Lufthansa flight from Vienna on August 30th at 1:20 PM at terminal 5. Connecting flight is UA to Laguardia NYC at 3:05PM from terminal 1. All tickets were purchased on one reservation and I am a US passport holder with checked bags. s this enough time to make it?

Correction, I am arriving on Austrian Airlines not Lufthansa.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security.

Arriving from dtw on a AA flight (operated by Republic as American eagle) at T3 and flying out to Abu Dhabi on a AA flight (operated by Etihad) from T5. Both are on the same itinerary. What will be the steps for connection like baggage claim and immigration etc.? I'm not a U.S. passport holder. Also how do you determine the baggage allowance? Will it be 2 free checked that Etihad offers on intl' routes?

Also will I've have to claim and handle baggage at O'Hare or will it be checked all the way thru to Abu Dhabi.

Baggage allowance will follow AA's international allowance, you should be allowed the two bags. You will not have to claim your bags in Chicago. All you have to do is take the ATS Train from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 and go through security.

Thanks for clarifying the baggage claim confusion. I'm assuming that immigration will be held at T5, rite? So with bags out of the way, do you think a healthy and active retired couple (my parents) can make the connection within 1hr 52m available for the purpose? Also regarding the baggage allowance, wont' the msc rule be applied and that supposedly says that the first carrier who goes from one area to another, will be the one whose baggage allowance should be offered through out, Etihad in our case? Bcz as per AA website, they charge 100$ for the second bag on transatlantic flights. So I'm concluding: 2 free bags but bcz of Etihad policy. Is that correct?

  • 1.5 hour layover DUB to ORD to SFO

Hello! I will be flying from Dublin to Chicago with a 1 hour and 33 min layover before going to San Francisco. Is that enough time if I have a checked bag? Will I have to go through customs again when I'm in Chicago? Thanks in advance!!

Both flights are with United Airlines by the way.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. Your arrival into Chicago will be like a domestic flight. As long as your flight from Dublin is on-time you should have plenty of time.

All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.

Thanks ZAP! Just to clarify, if I have a checked bag...my bag will go directly from Dublin to San Francisco correct? So I don't have to pick it up in Chicago?

    That is correct.
