  • T2 to T5, how much time is required to shuffle between these terminals

I have 1 hour and 28 minutes to travel from terminal 2 to terminal 5 to catch my connecting flight. Both flights are operated by air France. Would this time be sufficient or should I try to reschedule my itenary. My incoming flight is from Minneapolis and outgoing flight is to Paris.

  • 40 mins transfer time enough?

Hi I am a non US resident (UK resident travelling from Tulsa to Toronto Canada transfering at Chicago. The airline is UNited Airlines. There is a 40 minute transfer time. Both flights are United Airlines. Is this enough time?

Yes, all you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. However, the connection obviously leaves little time to spare if the flight from Tulsa is delayed.

Hi I'm travelling from Ireland to San Fran with a connecting flight in Chicago. I'm flying with United airlines and the stop is 45 minutes. Do I have enough time to catch my flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ireland. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.

  • Short Connection Worry

Hi, we are flying from Houston to ORD, then on to Michigan (AZO). Our connection time is 45 minutes, but we have to change terminals (not sure which one). Will we have to go through security again and will this be enough time to change terminals going to AZO? Thank you kindly!

What airlines are you flying? All domestic gates in Chicago are connected inside security. So you shouldn't have to go through security in ORD.

We are flying United Airlines. Is the walk between terminals very long?

You will arrive in Terminal 1 and depart from Terminal 2. The are connected inside security by a walkway. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get between gates.

Thanks for your help ZAP :)

I will be flying from Calgary to London connecting at ORD. I'm on a British passport. Will 1hr 10min be enough?

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. I can help you more if you post what airlines you are flying.

Thanks. I'll be flying United both flights. Arriving terminal 1 and departing terminal 2. I have heard luggage will not be automatically forwarded. Is that true?

Yes, you don't have to do anything with your Luggage in Chicago on your way to London. Also, you have the terminals reversed, you will arrive in 1 or 2 and depart from 1.

  • Connection from Portland to Munich 1h36

Hi -- 1h36 is the time between arriving ORD from PDX (7:44p) and departure to Munich (9:20p). Same reservation, arriving Lufhtansa, leaving Lufhtansa. Thank you-- F

Lufthansa does not fly from Porland to Chicago, that flight will be on United. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1. You have enough time.

  • Enough time to connect in ORD?
    Jun 23, 2016

Hi all - I'm flying from London to Denver tomorrow, via Chicago O'Hare. I'll have 1hr45 in Chicago to clear border control, claim bags, re-check bags, then get through TSA. The whole trip is on United Airlines, so hopefully they have, in their infinite wisdom, provided enough time... but I'm worried 1hr45 won't be enough time. Thoughts / recommendations? Thanks.

That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. If you miss your connection United does have many flights from Chicago to Denver but they're typically very full.

  • Connecting in ORD from Bangalore to Kansas City

Hello! My parents are flying from Bangalore to Kansas City via London (BA297) and Chicago (BA1968). They have 3.5 hours layover in Chicago. Would this be enough to complete immigration, collect checked luggage and transfer to the domestic flight? Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time.

I'm looking at this itinerary on Tuesday Aug 9th: UA 582: YYZ to ORD, arriving 6.20pm T1 UA 782: ORD to DFW, depart 7.35pm T1 Both in F, connection time 1 hour 20 min. (non US resident) Is this realistic?

Yes. that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto so this is like a domestic connection. All you have to do in ORD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.

  • Connecting in ORD from Dallas to Rome

Hello! I have a flight from DFW to ORD arriving at 4.06PM and the next flight going from ORD to Rome at 5PM. Can I make it? Both flights are with AA same reservation. The first flight arrive in T3 zone K and the second flight depart from same terminal, same zone. It looks like i don't have to walk a lot but will my luggage go straight to Rome from Dallas or do i need to pick it up? When do i need to pass through immigration to have the exit stamp on my passport, in Dallas or Chicago? Thank you!!

Yes, your luggage will go straight through. The US does not issue exit stamps. You just show your passport when boarding your flight to Rome. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. you have enough time.

  • Connecting at Chicago

My Parents are travelling through British Airways/AA from Mumbai to Seattle through London & Chicago. They will have to go through Immigration and Customs in Chicago, pick up their bags and drop them at the exit for their flight to Seattle. My question is whether there will help to pick up the baggage and drop them at the airline after customs. They have 6 checked bags in total so checking to see if there will be any help available

There are carts available in the International baggage claim and they just have to take their bags from the baggage claim through customs, and to the re-check desk. They don't have to bring them with them to T3. I'm sure between the two of them and a cart they can manage.

  • ORD connection T3 to T5 on Qatar
    Jun 23, 2016

I have heard that there is a n airside shuttle for Qatar similar to the one for BA - stays within security. The most recent information I can find of anyone mentioning it is from the middle of 2015. Does it still exist? where is it?

As far as I can tell it still exists and operates from near gate G17

    thank you!

  • Layover reduced, enough time??
    Jun 19, 2016

Layover is now only 2 hours. Landing at 730pm on American, leaving on Turkish air at 930pm. Separate reservation. Is this enough time?

If you have checked bags, then would request an earlier AA flight. At Chicago you need to retrieve your bags at T3, then take the airport train to T5, then recheck your bags with Turkish, then go through Security. If you have no checked bags, you still need to take the train and go through Security again. I'd give myself at least 3 hours with checked bags, and preferably 4 hours. If any one step takes longer than you expect, then you could miss your flight.

Could we make it with no check bags? Just carry on.

If you have no checked bags and your flight is on time, then, yes, 2 hours is ok. Consider time to deplane, walk 10-15 minutes to train, wait for and take train (up to 30 hour), and get through Security at T5. It depends on your comfort level. I'd still give more time because O'Hare was in the news a few weeks ago for 2+ hour waits at Securty. Many people missed their flights. I don't know if it has improved. Consider if you are flying at a peak time. Turkish is not responsible if you miss the flight. It's a shame that you cannot travel airside to T5. You must exit Security at T3 and then go through Security again at T5.

Thank you so much for your feedback!! I am one of those who hate cutting it close so I went ahead and changed my domestic flight.

  • Ok use T3 lounges when flying out of T5?

I get to O'Hare super early by bus. Not arriving by plane. I have evening flight on BA from T3. I prefer lounges in T3 to T5. Can I go through Security at T3, then later take the BA shuttle to T5 (just carry-on luggage -- no checked bags). Or will TSA only let folks departing from T1-2-3 to go through Security there?

We are leaving msp on American and flying to Hong Kong on Cathay pacific. We have a 1 hour 35 minutes between flights. Is that enough time? Our flights are on one ticket. Will our luggage be checked all the way through? Will we have to go through security again on ord? Same questions on the return from Hong Kong to ord then msp?

Yes, your luggage will be checked through on your way to Hong Kong. In Chicago on the way to Hong Kong you will just take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and go through security. On the return you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to T3, and go through security. YOu have enough time on your way to Hong Kong.
