Will we Go through customs and immigration in Tampa or Chicago or Calgary on our trip from Tampa through Chicago to Calgary, Alberta

You will go through Canadian Immigration and customs in Calgary. There is no US customs when leaving the US.

  • Enough time? MSP to ORD--2h15min--to YYZ (to NRT)
    Oct 9, 2015
Have ticket from ORD to YYZ (to NRT) for departure of 08:45, Terminal 2. Want to buy AA ticket from MSP to ORD the morning of flight above. Arrival is 06:31. I think arrival is Terminal 3. Given the international flight above, will there be enough time to make flight above or had I better stay in Chicago the night before? Advice appreciated!!

I would recommend flying in the night before.

Got it. Thanks for the advice!

  • Connecting flight to Toronto Custom question
    Oct 7, 2015
Hello, My flight will be from Paris to Chicago to Toronto. I was wondering, how does it work? Usually, coming back international my last stop is in the US, I just have to recheck and go through US custom at Chicago. This time is going to Canada. Do I have to go through 2 time customs? Landing at Chicago, recheck my luggage and go through US custom and connect my flight to Toronto and go through Canada custom? Have anyone done this before? Thanks

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in Chicago and then Canadian in Toronto.

    Thanks for the infor

  • YEG to GRU with 70min connection in ORD
    Oct 7, 2015
Hi, I am travelling from Edmonton, Canada to Sao Paulo, Brazil on Dec 27th with a very brief 70min layover in ORD. All flights are on United, the first one arriving in Terminal 2 (United 4983) and the next departing from Terminal 1 (United 845). Will I have enough time to transfer as this seems pretty tight? Any worries about security, customs, or baggage claim? thanks

You will preclear US Customs in YEG. You just have to walk from gate to gate in ORD. You have enough time.

  • Connection between T1 and T2
    Oct 6, 2015
I am looking at flying United 6131 which arrives at Gate F21 and then connecting to Lufthansa 431 which leaves from Gate B17. The layover is 1 hour and 25 minutes. I did a search and it is estimated it will take me 21 minutes to walk between those two gates. Do I have to go through security again between those terminals? Is 1 hour and 25 minutes enough time to make my international flight? Thanks for the information and advice!

You do not have to go through security. You have enough time.

  • Connection times

We will be flying from London to Chicago with a connection time of 1 hour and 48 minutes. Will that be enough time to get our baggage, clear customs and make our next flight which is in the same terminal?

That should be enough time. However, your outbound flight will likely NOT be in the same terminal you arrive in. You will arrive in Terminal 5.

  • ARN-ORD-YYC Transfer at ORD only 1:30h
    Sep 25, 2015
Going skiing in Canada and will have Special luggage (skis) and SAS have just changed our flight so that the transfer is only 1:30h. Arriving at Terminal 5 and changing to Terminal 2 (including Immigration, customs & security) is it enough time?

That should be barely enough time. Note that your United flight to Calgary could depart from Terminal 1 or 2.

  • Pet Pickup
    Sep 24, 2015
I am traveling from YYZ to ORD to DOH on AA then Qatar Airways. I have to pick up my pet and bags in ORD then recheck them. I arrive in terminal 3 and depart from terminal 5. Do you know where I get my pet from? Do I have to carry everything from 3 to 5 to recheck? Thanks!

Ask the American Airlines gate agent upon arrival in Chicago. Your regular bags should be transfered for you if you purchased your tickets on one reservation.

  • LGA - ORD - PVD (China) Connection
    Sep 24, 2015
Hi, I will fly from LGA, NYC to ORD T1, and then head for PVD from T3. I have 2.3h window. I will need to check my luggage in LGA. My question is:(i). Can I check my baggage in LGA, and claim it in PVD, (without claiming it in ORD T1 and then re-checking it in T3); (ii). Do I need to go through the security for international departure at T3 again? (iii) which one is faster, walk or by ATS? (iv) will 2.3h be enough? Thanks.

in addition, my first filght is UA, while the second one is AA.

Note that PVD is Providence, Rhode Island. Shanghai Pudong is PVG. If you purchased two separate tickets then you will have to claim your bags in T1 and take them to T3 to re-check with AA. In that case you will also have to go through security again in T3. You should barely have enough time.

Thank you! yes, it should be PVG... If i change the first to AA, then it will be AA for both ways. in this case, will i need to re-check my baggage in ORD, and will 3h be enough for the connection? Thank you.

  • COS-ORD-YUL Connection
    Sep 23, 2015
I have a flight coming up at the beginning of November. I will be leaving from COS, and have a 2 hour 36 min layover in ORD before heading to YUL. Previously when traveling to YUL, I had a layover in Toronto and had to collect my bags and recheck them. Will I need to do that in ORD as well? Or will it go straight through to YUL? Also, for the return flight, I only have 1 hour and 40 min as a layover, will I need to collect my bags then as well? (On the previous trip I was not required to pick them up coming back into the states) And will this be enough time to recheck them before heading to Denver? Thanks

Your bags will be checked through both ways and you should have enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal on your return.

Awesome, that was what I was hoping for! Thanks!

  • Connecting flights.
    Sep 15, 2015
Hi, We are traveling in November to Las Vegas, everything booked through SAS (United Airlines from Chicago to Vegas). We will be arriving 17:40 in Terminal 5 and flight we need to catch is at 19:18 from Terminal 1 - will we need to do anything with our bags or will they be checked in to Las Vegas when we do everything in Stockholm? This seems like a rather narrow timeslot but if we don't have to wait for our bags in Chicago and re-check them again it could do?

Your bags will be tagged to LAS in Stockholm, but in Chicago you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1, go through security and to your departure gate. You do have enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • 2 hr connecting time?
    Sep 14, 2015
we are small family arriving ORD from YYC calgary. we have to connect from west jet to Qatar airways, at 5.45 pm on thursday 23rd,,we have 2 hr window. Is it gonna be enough time? do we have to claim and recheck our baggage? how far from terminal 3 to 5(TIME) please explain. thanks

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. If both tickets were bought on the same reservation you don't have to do anything with your bags, just take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and go through security. If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags from Westjet and take them on the ATS Train to T5 to re-check with Qatar. You should have enough time on a single reservation and barely enough on two separate ones, assuming your westjet flight is on-time.

    Thanks zap,

If flights are on time we will have 1hour 40mins to go through immigration, claim baggage, go through customs and get to terminal 3. Will this be sufficient time for two 76 year olds.

That's barely enough time assuming everything goes smoothly.

  • Revised query: United MSP-ORD-FRA Connection time enough at ORD?
    Sep 13, 2015
We will be arriving at ORD at 4:20p on Mon 5/16/16 on United from MSP arriving at Terminal 1 and we need to make a flight to FRA (Frankfurt, Germany) on United at 6 p.m. with just a 1 hr and 40 minute layover. We have booked these flights on one reservation...do we need to go through additional security. Is this enough time to catch our FRA flight? Thanks...

There is no additional security. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1. If your flight from MSP is on-time you should have plenty of time.

    Thanks...appreciate it.
