I'm flying in from Cancun to Chicago O'hare, I think terminal 5. I have 80 minutes for my connection to Toronto Pearson at terminal 1. I have 1 checked suitcase, and I'll have to go through immigration. Is there a short connection line and do I have to pick up my Luggage and take it with me to Terrminal 1? I'm afraid that I will miss my flight to Toronto..

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs recheck your bags at the recheck desk then take the ATS train to Terminal 1 then through security. You have 10 minutes less than the recommended time. If you are a Canadian citizen you can use the shorter immigration line (the kiosks ).

Thank you for your reply, I am a Dutch citizen though, isn't there anything like a fast connection line going through immigration? Or am I able to use the kiosks as well if I've been to the US before?

If you have already used ESTA before you can use the kiosks.

  • international connection - enough time?

We are booked on a flight from Baltimore to O'Hare and then to Tokyo, all on United. We will be all checked through at BWI but our connection at O'Hare is only 40 minutes. No idea what terminals will be. Is that enough time to make an international flight?

If you tell me your airlines I can tell you your terminals. It should be enough time if the first flight is on-time.

Hi we are looking to fly united airlines from Edinburgh to Las Vegas via ORD. It is quoting 2h 50 for the connection time. Is this enough for security etc? Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • T3 to T5 in 65 minutes, AA to SAS

I have 65 minutes to deplane from AA at T3 and connect to SAS at T5. Is this enough time to exit security, take train, pass thru security again and get to my SAS gate? Is there a security-side shuttle operated by AA or SAS?

That should be enough time if you are already checked in for your SAS flight and your bags are checked through. AA and SAS are not alliance partners.

  • Term 5 to 3 ?

Hello , i am flying from Amman on Royal Jordanian to Toronto through O'Hare changing the flight to American Airlines, what terminals do i have to change? do i have to recheck my luggages again ?and take them with me to another terminal ? is there a porter service as i have alot of bags ?? and is 2 hours 30 min between flights enough for the connection ?

If you bought both tickets on the same reservation your bags will be tagged through to YYZ, but in Chicago you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You have enough time as long as your flight from Jordan is on-time.

  • American Airlines arriving from YKF to O hare then flying United to LAX

My flight from YKF arrives via American Ailines to ORD at 3:43pm. I need to get to United Terminal to LAX for my flight scheduled at 7:35 pm. I have about 3 1/2 hrs to catch my flight. Do I need to clear immigration and customs at O hare and will I have enough time? Can I transfer from Terminal 5 (international arrivals from YKF) to United Terminal 1 to LAX without going through security again. Thanks!

Yes, since there is no US Immigration and Customs preclearance at YKF you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1, check your bags with United, and go through security. You should have plenty of time. Immigration is not crowded when that flight arrives.

Thank you for your reply !!

How do you get from Terminal 1 C to Terminal 2 F? How long does it take? Is 42 minute connection time going to be enough?

It's easiest to just walk. It takes about 15 minutes walking briskly.

  • 2hours 13 minutes connection - T1-T5

Hi, I have a 2hour 13 min connection time arriving in to ORD from Dublin and departing to Seattle. I will have precleared c=immigration in Dublin - will I have enough time? Thanks!

One reservation -Aer Lingus and United

You have the Terminals backwards, you will arrive in T5 and depart from T1. Yes, that should be enough time. You just have to take the ATS Train from T5 to T1 and go through security.

Flying American from Pittsburgh (PIT) to ORD Sunday, arriving 15:00. Have a connecting flight to Stockholm with Scandinavian Airlines departing from ORD 16:25. Do I have to re-check my bags and go through immigration at ORD? And will I make it?

To add some info, both tickets are on the same booking.

Edit again, I blame the late hour... I'm flying UNITED to ORD, and not American.

If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation you won't have to do anything with your bags at ORD. All you have to do is take the ATS Train from T1 to T5 and go through security.

Hi, I have a single ticket booking from abu-dhabi to chicago via Etihad and chicago to dallas via American.. flight arrivies in chicago at 9:30 and my dallas flight is at 12:05.. after customs, can I transfer the bags to Domestic from T5?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Abu Dhabi. All you have to do is take the ATS Train from T5 to T3 and go through security. You don't have to do anything with your bags. You should have plenty of time.

I am flying via NRT by NH & connect to CLE thru ORD via UA in Nov. When I booked tix, I am scheduled to arrive at 1:50p and connect UA flight at 3:30p. I should have enough time for making a tight connection. BUT, UA has changed me to the flight which will depart at 3:15p now. I really doubt I will be able to make it as I don't have ESTA and I am not American ... What should I do if I miss the flight ? Will ground staff help me? Also, any porter service at the luggage belt as I need to re-check my bags... Thanks,

That's below the minimum International to Domestic connection time. Since it was an involuntary schedule change you can contact United or your travel agent and request to be moved to the next flight to Cleveland and they should not charge you a change fee. No there is no porter service at the international baggage claim, but there are free carts.

I tried to ask my travel agent to change, but he said I should wait ... would it be a matter as my flight was a redemption ticket? My travel agent said United may change again. Travel agent said I need to pay for the change as well.... I will try to call United.

  • Dallas DFW through ORD to London, Ontario YXU

Arriving Terminal-1 ORD on United from DFW and connecting to YXU Canada from Terminal-2 via United Express. Three questions: (1) Will I pickup my checked baggage on arrival at Terminal-1 and take it to Terminal 2? (2) Do I go through Canadian customs at ORD? and (3) Is 1 hr 50 min layover time enough to make the connection? Thanks

No, you do not pick up your bags at ORD. No, there is no Canadian Immigration preclearance anywhere in the US. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Terminals 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway. You have plenty of time.

  • Question about rechecking baggage / having ample layover time

I booked a United airlines flight from Shanghai to Newark (EWR), with a layover in ORD on one reservation, with a layover of 1 hour and 35 minutes. Do I have to reclaim baggage after going through customs? Do I have enough time to make my connecting flight?

Follow up question - will I remain in Terminal one? Do I have to change concourses? Thanks so much.

On the way from Shanghai to Newark you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security. You barely have enough time.

Thanks so much for your response. Actually, I'd only have about an hour before boarding as I arrive at 4:10 and depart at 5:45. Would United put me on the next flight for free if I miss the connection? If not, Would you recommend me to change a flight in advance?

You don't have to be in the gate area when they begin boarding. As long as you're on the aircraft 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time, you'll be OK. If you miss your connection they will rebook you on the next available flight. i would not proactively rebook.

will I have to go security again from terminal 3 arrive 7:15 pm to terminal 5 depart at 8:35 pm from London Heathrow? Will there be enough time?

If you are flying British Airways to London they run a shuttle bus inside security from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5. Otherwise if you take the ATS Train you will have to go through security in Terminal 5.

Thank you, I am flying British Airways.

  • Transit time between International flight at terminal 5 and 1

Please help, Arriving at Terminal 5 with EY and departing from terminal 1 on UA . How much time it takes to transit between terminals 5 & 1.

If you purchased two separate reservations and have checked bags, I would leave 3 hours.
