  • Minimum time get from Terminal 1 and through security at Terminal 5?
    May 25, 2016

Arriving with United to ORD terminal 1 at 6.20pm, continuing to Stockholm with SAS from Terminal 5 at 9.05pm. Is 2 hrs 45 min enough time getting to Terinal 5 and through security, or should I try reschedule to an earlier United flight (if possible)?

That should be enough time. The lines in T5 get shorter by the late evening when the SAS flight departs.

  • T1 to T2 - Security?

I am flying from ATL into ORD T1 on United. I have a 1hr 20 minute layover before my flight to Toronto on Air Canada in T2. Will I need to go through security in ORD to reach T2? Is 80 minutes enough time?

Sorry. Typo. Flying United not AA.

No, you do not have to go through security. THere is a walkway from T1 to T2 inside security.

We are traveling ATL-ORD-YVR on AA (flts 367 and 1180) with a connection time of 2 hrs 9 mins and checked luggage. How do we navigate that and do we have enough time?

That is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you. You are providing an invaluable service!

  • Transferring from T3 - T5

Do I need to exit security to transfer from American (T3) to SAS (T5). How long have security lines in T5 been at 8:00 PM? I only have 90 minutes between flights.

Yes, you will have to go through security again in T5. This is a very difficult connection.

  • Two hrs enough time to get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5?

Arriving Terminal 3 at 7:09pm on American to transfer to a 9:05pm Flight on SAS in Terminal 5. Is that enough time to switch terminals and go through security with only carryons?

I have the same situation on May 29. It looks like you need to leave security to get to T5. Has American told you they will issue boarding passes on SAS and let you check luggage. They are not alliance partners but SAS booked me on AA so you would think they have an agreement in place for itransfers. That said, nobody at AA can confirm that.

WA, that should be enough time. AA and SAS do have an interline agreement but are not alliance partners. AA can check your bag through to SAS if both tickets are on the same reservation, but they may not be able to issue your SAS boarding pass.

    thank you very much

In July, flying from Tucson-Chicago on AA, arriving at 5:45 pm. We have a 9:05 pm SAS flight to Stockholm. These flights were booked separately and we only have carry-on luggage. I was told that we can't get our boarding passes until we're at the airport in Chicago. Is there enough time to get our boarding passes and go back through security (flying business if that makes a difference)?

Yes, that should be enough time as long as the Tucson flight is on-time.

I will be traveling from Vienna, Austria to Chicago, ORD and then from ORD to Memphis. If my flight from Vienna to Chicago is on time I will have about 2 hours to make my next flight to memphis. I am afraid I won't have enough time to check bags and get through security. Any help would be appreciated.

It should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Do you know if I can check bags all the way to memphis from vienna ? Only thing is I have two separate tickets. One from vienna to Chicago. The other Chicago to memphis .

What airline are you flying to Memphis?

I'll be flying United to memphis.

I'm using Austrian Air to Chicago.

  • TUS to ORD to DUB

AA changed my flight times. I have less than an hour to connect in ORD, going TUS-ORD-DUB. Will we have to clear security again and will we land in the same terminal that we depart international to Dublin?

I have a similar question: flying Vancouver to Burlington, VT (YVR->ORD->BTV), all on United, with only ~50 minute layover at ORD. Normally I would be very concerned about this short a connection at ORD on an international flight - but my ticket says we clear customs at YVR, and that both my flights are out of Terminal 1. Does this sound correct and will I make the connection? Thank you!

Nic, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time. Emily, yes, that is correct. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver and all you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Hi guys, Can you please share your experience with me if 1hr 50min is sufficient to connect arriving ANA flight to United for Atlanta? Is it wise to check in luggage?

You can save quite a bit of time if you don't check luggage. This is a fairly difficult connection.

I will take UA211 from Toronto to ORD and then go to Hong Kong. The connection time is 1 hour 59 minutes. Do I need to go through customs and security check again? Is the connection time enough? If I have checked luggage, do I have to claim and rechecked in?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Terminal 1. You have enough time.

I am flying from Knoxville through Chicago on my way to AbuDabi in two weeks. What terminals do I pass through? Do I have to go through security again when I change to international flight? What is the wait time for this? Thanks!

If you purchased two separate reservations, you will arrive in Terminal 2, walk to Terminal 1 to claim your bags, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 to re-check your bags, and then go through security. I recommend close to 4 hours to do all this.

  • Wait time T5 6 a.m. flight

Do I need to get to T5 at 3 am for a 6 am flight?

Yes, but I'm not aware of any flights that depart T5 at 6 AM - where are you flying and on what airline?

  • T1 to T5?

Hey, I would like some advice please. I'll be landing in T5 on a flight from the UK at 2.30pm and need to make connecting flight to Seattle at 4.30pm in T5. I will not have any checked bags. Can anyone give me a step by step guide as to what to do? Is 2 hours enough? Many Thanks.

I meant flying on to Seattle from T1!!..any advice greatly appreciated!

You should be fine. You'll go thru customs at T5, then exit security and look for escalator up to train level. Train stops every 5-10 minutes, then less than 10 minutes to T1. You'll have to go thru security again but SEA flts normally leave from B concourse which is closest to Security

    Míle Buíochas! Very much appreciated!

  • Cancun to Green Bay - security line

I'm traveling United from Cancun, Mexico to Green Bay, WI via ORD on May 31. What terminals will I be transferring to/from? Is a 2 hour layover enough time to get through security?

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to your departure terminal (likely Terminal 2), then go through security. You have barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I will be traveling from Charlotte to Japan via Chicago on United. I have been watching the daily flight tracker for the past month and the flight from Charlotte arrives in Terminal 1 Concourse B and the connecting flight takes off from the same concourse. I have a connection time of 63 minutes. I've been looking for the connection procedures to see if I will have enough time and also to see if I have to be put through the ringer with TSA and immigration.

You have enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
