On april 24 I will arrive at ORD Terminal 3 at 4.01 pm with flight BA 5308 from Rochester MN, then at 4.40 pm I will depart from Terminal 3 to London Heathrow (flight BA 1543). Is the connection time (39 minutes) enough ?

If the first flight will be delayed, does the company cover the cost for staying in Chicago one night if not able to find another flight in the same day ?

Looking at buying tickets December 19 arriving ORD FROM Phx UA FLIGHT 248. Departing for BRU UA FLIGHT 972. Is this enough time

forgot to add arrival time is 4:26 departure 6:05. 1 hr 38 minute layover

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.

We arrive at ORD on AA#1444 at 4:08 pm from PHX and depart on AA#110 to Rome at 4:45 pm. Is that enough time? Thank you

Yes, that is enough time if your first flight is on-time - all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3. However, there is no room to spare if your flight from Phoenix is delayed at all.

Coming in from Boston @ 8AM on 8/19 departing on Express Jet d/b/a United Express @ 9AM. Is this enough time? Does Express Jet d/b/a United Express usually use same terminal?

Expressjet operated United Express flights can depart from Terminal 1 or 2. You will arrive in Terminal 1. However, there is a walkway connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 inside security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

arriving with my child from Paris with united airlines flight 986 (terminal 5) than flying to LAX with united airlines also (terminal 1) I have around 2 hours ,is it enough? and what r the procedures and the best way to get connected thk u

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go up two levels to the ATS Train and take it to Terminal 1, then go through security and to your departure gate. 2 hours should be enough time.

  • 1hr 40mins Layover... Is that enough

I am arriving at Chicago ORD Terminal 5 from Dublin (Aerlingus) at 13.50 my connecting flight to Dallas Fort Worth with United Airlines is at 15.30 in Terminal 2. Is 1hr 40 mins enough time to get to my connecting flight or will I end up missing my flight? I fly in November.

If your tickets were purchased together that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do is take the ATS Train from T5 to your departure terminal (check your departure gate first, many DFW flights, even on United Express leave from Terminal 1) and then go through security.

It was all booked together through aer lingus. Do I need to go through customs in Chicago at all? Is it just a matter of rechecking my bag? Thanks for your help. I was in a bit of a panic

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. Your arrival into Chicago will be like a domestic flight. You don't have to do anything with your bag.

That is great news. Thanks for all your help. Hopefully it will all work out.

  • International flight

My parents are flying into ORD Terminal 5 from Dubai. After clearing immigration and customs they have to board a delta flight to MSP. Question is - can they check in their luggage to MSP without having to move from terminal to terminal carrying their luggage? Just a little worried since they are older and might not have guidance at ORD.

If they purchased their tickets together they can re-check their bags at the transfer desk in T5. However, Delta does not have staff in T5 to re-check bags not tagged to their final destination, so if they did purchase two separate tickets they will have to take them on the ATS train to T2. It's fairly easy to navigate. Once they exit customs they just need to follow the signs to the ATS Train and Terminal 2 - the symbol for Terminal 2 is a 2 inside an orange square. When they arrive in T2, pretty much the only check in counter left is for Delta.

Thank you for the quick response. Much appreciated. Unfortunately we have 2 separate tickets. Since they fly internationally they have 2 big sized bags each. I am concerned that they have to take the ATS carrying 4 bags. The other alternative is to skip the flight to MSP and me just drive to pick them up from ORD and make the drive back. What are your thoughts?

There are elevators and escalators on the way to and from the ATS Train. As long as your parents aren't very elderly I think they will be OK. However, if they each have two large bags the bag fees alone to MSP on Delta will be $120, assuming all of the bags are under 50 lbs each. So maybe it's worth it to drive because of that.

Thanks once again. The decision to drive to ORD is not a financial one for me. I don't mind the $120 bag fees as much as the 6 hour drive one way. Here's one more question - if I bought the ORD-MSP through another airline (say United) - would they have a transfer desk at T5? Your help is much appreciated.

  • Running?

Arriving at Terminal 1 at 8:15 a.m. on a weekday morning in April. Connecting flight leaves at 9:15 a.m. from Terminal 2. Is this enough time to make the connection without running? How does one change terminals, here?

Yes, that should be plenty of time if the first flight is on-time. There is a walkway inside security between T1 and T2. Also, note that many United Express flights leave from Terminal 1.

    Thank you!

Travelling in May from Springfield, MO to Chicago on American. Arrive at 8:00 am. Leave at 8:40 also on American. Want to be sure it is enough time. Thanks so much in advance...great site!

That should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. All AA gates at O'Hare are connected inside security in Terminal 3.

  • Alaska ->American SEA ORD Shop?

Arriving Alaska 6:34 pm ORD - depart American 9:10 pm, teenage son would like to spend time at new mall 17-10 min from airport. 1 - Does Alaska transfer checked baggage directly to American flight? 2 - Does 2-1/2 hours allow safe time to check out mall?

If you purchased your tickets together then your bags will be checked through to American. 2.5 hours is enough time to get to the Rosemont mall but realistically leaves you very little time there, since its close to 30 minutes journey each way and you will have to go through security when you return.

I am looking at booking a flight through UA and there is only a 1 hr and 9 minute layover. Is that enough time to make our connection. I may have a slow elderly person traveling. Will that make a difference?

Is your first flight domestic or international?

HI Arriving on AA (AA111) from Europe. Landing at 15:10 and catching connecting flight to Phoenix on AA 640 at 17:00. With just under 2 hours of transit time will I have enough time to clear customs and make my way from terminal 5 to terminal 3 ? Thank you for your help.

Yes, that should be enough time.

Flying in on Friday march 20th via spirit for a layover. Arriving via spirit at 7:37 pm and departing on spirit at 8:17 pm. Is this enough time? I believe so since it's the same carrier, though I have never had a layover before

Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. All Spirit flights at ORD use just a handful of gates in the L concourse.

You do not have to go through security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All United gates are connected inside security. You do not need an escort.
