We are flying to O'Hare on LH from WI and arrive at 2:12. WE depart for Frankfurt at 4:05. Will we need to change terminials, recheck bags, and go through security again? Will this be enough time? Thanks

Lufthansa does not fly to Wisconsin. Your flight from Wisconsin will be on United Express. All you have to do in O'Hare is go from your arrival gate, which will likely be in Terminal 2, to your departure gate in Terminal 1. However, Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 are connected inside security by a walkway. Follow the signs. You don't have to do anything with your bags. You should have enough time.

Hello I was wondering if i have to claim my baggage and get them rechecked in chicago. My final destination is Calgary Canada and Im coming from beirut lebanon on MEA with a layover in frankfurt and chicago, both those flights are with united.

Yes, after you clear US Immigration, you will claim your luggage, go through US Customs, and then re-check it with United. Then you will take the ATS Train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1 or 2 (check monitors for where your Calgary flight will depart) and go through security and to your gate.

Hi there.. I am a mom travelling with 2 kids to DEL India from YYZ Toronto with a connecting flight at ORD Chicago. I am a Permanent Resident of USA. I know that my customs will be done at YYZ. I want to know if I have to just walk to my departure gate at ORD or do I have to recheck my baggage too. I am arriving at Terminal 2 at ORD (Air-Canada) and have to catch Air-India flight from Terminal 5. Any help would be much appreciated. thank you

You will not have to go through any immigration in Chicago. If both of your flights were purchased together Air Canada should be able to check your bags through to India for you. If not, you will have to claim them at the baggage claim in Terminal 2. Regardless, you will then have to take the ATS train from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 and go through security. If Air Canada is unable to print your Air India boarding passes you will have to obtain those from the Air India counter in T5 first.

Thanks for ur quick response. Can u plz tell me if I have to claim my checked baggage n then recheck it with Air India..will there be anybody to help me with the luggage transport to terminal 5....I am travelling with 2 small kids.

No, there will likely be nobody to assist with luggage in T2. Additionally, you cannot take rented luggage carts on the ATS train. If you need a luggage cart, you should buy a portable one now and include it in your packed luggage.

Hello, I will take UA8371 to O'Hare into terminal 2 (9:30AM). then catch my flight UA835 (10:50AM) to Shanghai at terminal 1). Will that be enough time? I saw the flight UA8371 delayed for 50 minutes today.

That should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Montreal. In Chicago all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. T1 and T2 are connected by a walkway inside security.

    Thanks!

Forgot to ask will I have to recheck my luggage .. will someone tell me what I should expect whole thing to cause me

Yes, after you arrive from Rome you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, then go through US Customs, then re-check your bags. Then you will take the ATS train to Terminal 3 where you will go through security and to your gate. You cannot walk between T5 and T3.

  • Do I go through security again?

I am coming into terminal 3 at ORD on American Airlines and connecting in terminal 2 for US AIRWAYS. Do I pass through security again? I did last time I was at ORD but really felt like I made a mistake somewhere since it was my first time there.

At ORD, you may use either the walkways at post-security areas of Departures level (follow signs) - at T3 the walkway is near Concourse G. (Taking the ATS train would require you to go through security check).

Thank you!! that was the mistake I made.... I took the TRAM and wasted a lot of time and energy.

I am coming to Chicago from Boston on american and have a connecting flight to Knoxville 45 minuteson US AIR. Do i have an enough time to connectr?

While US Airways is in Terminal 2 (T2), American is in T3 - use walkway at past-security areas of Departures level (follow signs)and hurry.

Both of your flights will be on American/American Eagle and will be in Terminal 3.

  • American Airlines Connecting Flight (domestic) - is 40 minutes enough?
    Apr 9, 2014
    1
I'm about to purchase a ticket from NYC to Green Bay, WI - it connects at O'Hare. ARRIVING FLIGHT is a "Republic dba American Eagle operated Coach on a American E75" CONNECTING Flight is a "Envoy Air dba American Eagle operated Coach on a American ER4" There are 40 minutes between the arriving and connecting flights… I have no idea if these two flights would be within the same terminal (I'm assuming so, since it's the same airline)…or whether 40 minutes is cutting it too close? Also, if I check a bag, does anyone know if it would be put on the connecting flight for me or if I would be responsible for picking it up at baggage claim and then re-checking it onto connecting flight? Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, all of those flights will be within Terminal 3 and all gates there are connected inside security. Your bags will be transferred automatically - you won't have to do anything with them in Chicago. That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 in two hours?

Hello, I am going to be flying to O'Hare into terminal 1 via United. I have two hours to catch my flight to Dublin via Aer Lingus (assumining terminal 5). Will that be enough time with just carryon luggage? I am gathering I have to take the airport train and then go back through security?

Yes, you have the procedure correct. It should be plenty of time if your first flight is on-time, the transfer shouldn't take more than 45 minutes.

    Thank you!

  • Canadian Traveling to NYC with a 55 min layover in Chicago

Hi, We arrive from Canada to Chicago at 9:05am our connecting flight leaves at 10am giving us 55 mins to get from I assume terminal 5 to our next terminal is this enough time? Will we have to pass customs or obtain luggage before connecting to our next flight? Any help would be great. Thanks Miranda

Where in Canada are you coming from? You will only have to use Terminal 5 if the airport you are coming from does not have pre-clearance.

We're coming from Winnipeg, Manitoba I believe we go through customs at the airport here. I'm just worried its not enough time for us to get to our connecting flight. However they probably wouldn't make that time if it wasn't possible we're just new to flying over the border.

Since you pre-clear US Immigration in Winnipeg you will not have to go to T5. Both of your flights will be in terminals that are connected inside security - T1 and T2. All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Transfering from a domestic flight to the international terminal
    Apr 2, 2014

I am taking an international flight in a few weeks. Because it's international, I'm assuming it will fly out of terminal 5. I live 3 hours from Chicago and am considering being a separate flight from our small airport into Chicago. I found one that would arrive at 10:55am. Since it's domestic, I'm assuming it will fly somewhere besides terminal 5. The international flight leaves at 12:35pm Is 10:55am to 12:35pm (i.e., 1hour 40 minutes) enough time to transfer from one of the DOMESTIC terminals to terminal 5? Since it would be a separate flight, I don't know if I would have to get baggage? Do I have to go back through security at Terminal 5 anyway? What is the usual turnaround time for security in Terminal 5...this is a Tuesday am...if that makes a difference. Thanks!

P.S. The last time my husband bought a separate ticket like this they DID transfer the bags the whole way. The action I am considering is actually identical to what he did last time.

Only some international departures use T5. United, American, Lufthansa, ANA, Air Berlin and Qatar Airways intl departures use T1 or T3. Tell me what airlines you're planning on flying and i can help you more.

OH...THANKS!! I would be flying in American Airlines (land 10:55); I would be flying out Air Korean (at 12:35pm).

In that case yes, you would have to transfer from T3 to T5 on your way out and T5 to T3 on your way back. I think that would be enough time for your transfer. It will take about 15 minutes to get to T5 via the ATS train and then you will have to go through security. If you can get AA to check your bags through to Korean you won't have to claim them first (on your way out of the US).

    Thanks so much!!

  • Enough time for customs, etc.

I am arriving by Air France at3:45 pm, assuming at Terminal 5. I need to catch a United flight at terminal 2 departing at 5:05 pm. I only have carry on baggage. I don't know what type of security I will need to lclear coming from France. Will I have enough time to make the connection to my 5:05 pm departure in Terminal 2?

No, that is not enough time. You need at least 90 minutes to safely make an international->domestic connection at ORD. Additionally, since Air France and United are not in the same alliance, United will be less inclined to help you if you miss your connection due to the Air France flight being late.

I sort of thought it would not be enough time. but thanks for the info about the time allowed to clear security on the return flight...I have decided to drive to Chicago! Big help, thank you.......

  • ORD connection LHR/ORD/SDF

Flying Virgin Atlantic LHR to ORD , flight 39 , arrival ORD at 13:35. Connecting to American Airlines AA5330 departing at 16:10. Is this enough time to connect? Will I be able to check bags all the way through at London?

Were your tickets bought on one reservation or separate? If they were bought together, Virgin Atlantic and American do have an interline agreement so they should be able to check your bags through to Louisville. However, you will still have to claim your bags after you go through immigration, then go through customs, then re-check them with American. if they cannot be tagged through to SDF, you will have to bring them with you on the ATS train to Terminal 3 and check them there.

Also, you should have enough time in either case.
