I'm flying United with a 51 minute connection time at O'Hare. I believe arrival and departure flights will both be at Terminal 1, but possibly different concourses. I'd like to carry on my bag, but I'm sure it will have to be gate-checked due to the small size of the BTV-ORD plane. Will there be enough time to wait for the bag upon arrival in Chicago? Or would I be better off to check it through instead of carrying on?

Hi, I've travelling from LHR - ORD - LAX, I've 1 hour 50 mins between flights from ORD to LAX. Arriving terminal 5 and connecting flight from Terminal 3. We are 4 adults and 1 child and we will have few checked-in bags and hand luggage.. Travelling by American Airline - LHR - ORD - LAX - do I still have to claim bags and recheck it?

Yes, after Immigration, you will have to claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the ATS Train to T3 and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Thanks, lets hope its on time, looking to see if I can get priority bag tags and priority security option to save some time... thanks again

We are flying from Toronto to ORD and have a connecting flight to LIT. No checked luggage. What is the minimum connection needed to clear customs and get to our connecting gate? Thanks.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. So 45 minutes should be enough.

Im flying into ord from lhr on aa87. Arriving 1:45 p. I have a non-connecting flight to spi on ua5340, departing ord at 3:31. Is this sufficient time to claim my bags, recheck them, etc.?

It should barely be enough time. United has a staffed re-check in Terminal 5, they might be able to re-tag your bag to SPI there, so you don't have to wait in line in T1 to re-check it and can head straight to T2 where your SPI flight will likely depart. Check-in online for your ORD-SPI flight before you leave London.

Right now the gate information is showing that our United flight from YYZ to ORD is coming in to Terminal 5 - the International Terminal. Our connecting flight is with American Airlines and I have 62 minutes to make the connecting flight out of Terminal 3.....is this enough time and do we have to go through Security again?

Your flight from Toronto will not arrive in Terminal 5. You will go through US Immigration and Preclearance in Toronto. You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2, likely 1. Is your booking on American separate or was it booked together? Will you have checked bags? You can walk between Terminals 1, 2, and 3, inside security, but if you have checked bags you will have to claim them from T1 and take them to T3 to re-check which will be difficult in the time you have.

The booking was together and we will not have checked bags.

Then just check in for your AA flight on AA.com before you leave Toronto, walk from T1 or T2 to T3, and board your plane, you should have enough time.

  • Terminal C and F connections

I'm planning a trip from YWG to IAH in March and we have only an hour to make a connection arriving at C and leaving from F - Terminal 1 to 2, I think - is this enough time or am I rolling the dice on making this connection - it would be the last flight out to IAH that night.

That should be enough if the first flight is on-time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate and T1 and T2 are connected inside security. There's also a good chance both gates will actually be in Terminal 1.

Hi- We are flying from Toronto to Chicago (WS 5598) and then from Chicago to Tokyo (JL7009). We have 1hr 55mins to make the connection and we have checked bags. Do we need to go through customs? Do we need to re-check our bags? Or can we just walk from one gate to the next? Thanks.

Note that both flights will be operated by American Airlines. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.

    Thank you!

  • Layover 55 minutes between Terminal 3 and Terminal 5

HI, I'm flying BNA-ORD-LHR and I'm arriving into Chicago at 20.49 in Terminal THREE, and my flight to Heathrow is departing at 21.45 in Termiinal FIVE. That means I have 55 minutes to make the connection? Is that enough time? I understand I do NOT have to go through Customs/Immigration, is that correct?

Correct, you do not have to go through US Customs when leaving the US. There are two routes. The first is that you can take the British Airways shuttle bus from Terminal 3. It leaves Terminal 3 from gates G17 and K20, but it does not run frequently. Alternatively you can take the ATS train from T3 to T5, but you will have to go through security again when you get to T5.

Thanks for this! Do you think 55 minutes is then enough time to make the connection? I assume my bags will be checked all the way through to LHR.

Yes, you don't have to do anything with your bags. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time and you hurry.

Im looking at a flight plan where I have 1h and 35min connection in ORD, is this enough time to?

That is 5 minutes over the minimum connection time. You should make it, but if you do miss it because of a late flight from London, both American and United have lots of flights to LAX.

  • Need Porter/Volunteer to help carry the baggage from Term 2 to 5

My wife has a connection at ORD and will be traveling with our 1 year old. She has 3 bags (1 cabin, 2 check in). Can a porter or any volunteer help to take her baggage to Term 5 from term 2. If yes, what should be the suggested tip?

There are supposedly porters available but there's no guarantee. They should be paid $10 per bag.

    thank you

Hi We land at O'hare from Manchester UK at 12.45pm then have a connection flight to Orlando at 15.05pm both flights are with American Airlines. Will this be enough time as we have 2 small children with us & 3 adults thanks

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go up several levels and take the ATS train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 (1 stop), then go through security and to your departure gate which will be in concourse H or K.

  • GSP-ORD-NRT-BKK 32 mins via ORD, enough?

I just got my flight updated involuntarily by United. So now I have only 32 minutes layover/transfer via ORD. Is this enough time to get from the domestic gate to the international terminal & gate?

You do not have to exit terminals. You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 and depart from Terminal 1. They are connected inside security by a walkway. You barely have enough time if your flight from GSP is on-time. However, since this is an involuntary schedule change, you could call United to ask for a different itinerary (maybe one connecting over Washington-Dulles).

Thanks for your advice; I already called United and changed my flight!!

Hi! I am traveling from San Francisco to Ottawa. I have a 40 min connection in ORD. In ORD, I arrive in terminal 1 and leave from terminal 2 for YOW. I am International Do I have time to make it? How does the transportation goes from one terminal to another? Do I have to do security check again? Do I have enough time for it?

You can just walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. You do not have to go through security. You will barely have enough time if your flight from SFO is on-time.

I'm flying from Denver to Chicago, arriving at 7:55pm, leaving for Munich at 9:20pm (1 hours, 10 mins). Will that be enough time to make my connecting flight? Lufthansa flights on both legs, there will be checked baggage. Thanks!

Note that your Denver-Chicago flight will be operated by United. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both gates will be in Terminal 1. You should have plenty of time.

    Thanks!
