Arriving fro Istanbul Turkish Air at5:50pm , connection United at 7:30pm. Two different tickets. Enough time?

Since you purchased two separate tickets it will be very difficult. I would either book another flight or show your United confirmation to the Turkish agent in your origin city and ask for your bag to be tagged through to your United flight. Also check-in online for your United flight before you leave your origin. It's possible, but it depends on everything going perfectly.

  • International Transfer from Lufthansa to Unite din 1:15?

Hello, we are a family with three small kids and have a Lufthansa flight LH436 from Germany to ORD that gets in at 3PM (I assume Terminal 5) and leaves with United to Denver UA459 at 4:15PM (I assume Terminal 1). The flight to Den was recently moved forward after we had booked, and now we are wondering if it is possible to make the second flight? From what I have read here we will have to collect our bags, go through customs (US citizens), drop off the bags, and take the train to Terminal 1. Do we have to go through security again in Terminal 1, or can we just go then to the gate? I read somewhere else that the minimum connection time for I/D is 1:30 (but that might be for AA flights?). Is the 1:15 even possible?

and this is on Sat. July 4th. Is that a busy travel day?

July 4 itself is usually not a busy travcel day. Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 1. Yes, the Minimum time is 1:15 minutes, but on July 4, 1 hr 15 may be possible. If you miss it, United has almost hourly flights from Chicago to Denver.

Next week we're flying to Amsterdam from Phoenix with connections in Chicago and London. If the flight from Phoenix arrives on time, can both us and our luggage make the connecting flight to London in 90 minutes or less. I understand we need to leave and re-enter the secure area. Why do airlines schedule these connections so tight?

    What airlines are you flying?

American Airlines to Chicago. Then going on British Airways

British Airways has a shuttle bus inside security between Terminal 3 and Terminal 5 for British Airways passengers coming from American. You might want to take that.

Arriving 1915 with mother immigrant. Can we make a 2052 connection? If risky, would United rebook a later flight without change fee?

97 Minutes is above the minimum connection time, so they won't change your booking now. If you miss your connection because the first flight is late, then they will rebook you on the next available flight, which, depending on your destination, may not be until the next morning. If you provide more i

If you provide more info on your itinerary I can help you more (like where you are coming from, where you are going, and what airlines you are flying).

I am arriving on Lufthansa flight from Vienna on August 30th at 1:20 PM at terminal 5. Connecting flight is UA to Laguardia NYC at 3:05PM from terminal 1. All tickets were purchased on one reservation and I am a US passport holder with checked bags. s this enough time to make it?

Correction, I am arriving on Austrian Airlines not Lufthansa.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security.

Arriving from dtw on a AA flight (operated by Republic as American eagle) at T3 and flying out to Abu Dhabi on a AA flight (operated by Etihad) from T5. Both are on the same itinerary. What will be the steps for connection like baggage claim and immigration etc.? I'm not a U.S. passport holder. Also how do you determine the baggage allowance? Will it be 2 free checked that Etihad offers on intl' routes?

Also will I've have to claim and handle baggage at O'Hare or will it be checked all the way thru to Abu Dhabi.

Baggage allowance will follow AA's international allowance, you should be allowed the two bags. You will not have to claim your bags in Chicago. All you have to do is take the ATS Train from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 and go through security.

Thanks for clarifying the baggage claim confusion. I'm assuming that immigration will be held at T5, rite? So with bags out of the way, do you think a healthy and active retired couple (my parents) can make the connection within 1hr 52m available for the purpose? Also regarding the baggage allowance, wont' the msc rule be applied and that supposedly says that the first carrier who goes from one area to another, will be the one whose baggage allowance should be offered through out, Etihad in our case? Bcz as per AA website, they charge 100$ for the second bag on transatlantic flights. So I'm concluding: 2 free bags but bcz of Etihad policy. Is that correct?

  • 1.5 hour layover DUB to ORD to SFO

Hello! I will be flying from Dublin to Chicago with a 1 hour and 33 min layover before going to San Francisco. Is that enough time if I have a checked bag? Will I have to go through customs again when I'm in Chicago? Thanks in advance!!

Both flights are with United Airlines by the way.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. Your arrival into Chicago will be like a domestic flight. As long as your flight from Dublin is on-time you should have plenty of time.

All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.

Thanks ZAP! Just to clarify, if I have a checked bag...my bag will go directly from Dublin to San Francisco correct? So I don't have to pick it up in Chicago?

    That is correct.

Hi, I land in terminal 1 and have 1h before a flight departs from terminal 5. This seems tight since I think I need to go through security entering terminal 5. What do you think?

It's possible but doesn't leave much time to spare. What airline are you flying out of Terminal 5?

I am arriving on a Lufthansa flight operated by United from Dallas, and departing on Lufthansa to Frankfurt from terminal 5.

You don't have to go to Terminal 5. Lufthansa flights depart from Terminal 1. As long as your first flight is on-time you'll be OK. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Booking flight home in November with 1:35 min between flights on Unitied. We've had great results with Global Entry at other airports--same at ORD? Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be fine. In November even the regular lines are very short.

We are arriving from Calgary and have a one hour and 25 minute layove before our connecting flight to Allentown, PA. Both flights were booked together on United. Do we have enough time to make the connection? I understand that we will be pre-clearing customs in Calgary.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

can i recheck my bag in terminal 5 even though my flight is in another terminal, or do i have to travel on the train with them and recheck them at the terminal that the plane is depating? (UA) because on the site it says that UA for terminal 5 are for international flights only.

If your bag is tagged through to your final destination, then you can drop it at the re-check desk in Terminal 5 after customs (this usually means you purchased all tickets on the same reservation). If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to take your bags on the AirTrain to re-check them in T1 with United.

UA PHXORD arrives ORD 7:54PM Thursday. SAS ORDCPH departs 10:05PM. One ticket, luggage should be transferred. Is the 2:11 connection anything to worry about if first flight is on time? How long should this take without stopping or running? What is the minimum connection time? How many minutes on ATS from T1 to T5, and how frequent?

This connection shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes.

  • 1 hour layover YUL to ORD to SFO

Hi! I will be arriving in ORD from YUL at 7:58 am on july 30th (terminal2) and leaving for SFO at 9:05 am (terminal 1). Both flights are with United. Is the 1h07 layover enough to transit between terminals and catch the boarding schedule for the second flight? Also long enough for luggages to follow? Thanks in advance!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You could arrive in T1 or T2. T1 and T2 are connected inside security by a walkway.

  • Assistance to person with limited English knowledge
    Jun 17, 2015

My mother will be traveling to the USA in August. Her port-of-entry is ORD. Next connection is to DC through AA. Same ticket till DC. I believe the series of events after her arrival at ORD is like this. Immigration>baggage claim>Custom>Recheck baggage>Take train to terminal 3>Security>AA flight. My doubt is, she has to go through the security clearance again to the terminal 3 to board the AA flight. Is it possible to get some assistance here especially for a person with limited English knowledge to help her transit from terminal 5 to terminal 3 smoothly? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Lots of people will be heading to the ATS train following clearing customs and re-check. She can just follow the crowd. She just needs to learn the words and signs for Terminal 3. It will be the first stop she will come to that is a terminal. If the first stop she comes to is a parking lot. Then she got on the wrong train - she can just stay on it until it turns around and goes back the other way, back to Terminal 5, and then to Terminal 3.

  • What do I have to do during my layover

Hello! I am flying from Waterloo ON to Seattle with an hour and a half layover in Chicago. Is this enough time? I am nervous because I've heard I have to go through US customs and security once I arrive in Chicago. Also, will I have to pick up my luggage? I bought my tickets together so I'm pretty sure my luggage will continue to Seattle? Thanks!

Yes, in Chicago you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up two levels and take the AirTrain one stop to Terminal 3 and go through security. You have enough time if your flight from Kitchener/Waterloo is on-time.
