  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 5

We are arriving from Denver on United at 8:27 pm and departing Terminal 5 on Turkish Air at 10:15 pm. Enough time?....is terminal 1 first to load on ATS shuttle? What is average wait time for ATS at that time of day? Thank you

Yes, that should be enough time. There are two stops between T1 and T5 on the ATS train. At that time of day there is 5 minutes between trains.

I am flying back into the country from France. I have a 2 hour and 45 min layover in Chicago. Is this enough time to get through customs and make my flight to Seattle?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

Arriving from Toronto Canada at term ORD . Our flight to Amsterdam departs 3 hours later at term 1, do we need to go through security and customs again? And how long will it take

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I have about 2hrs to connect from my flight from Dublin to Chicago that arrives in T5 to get to T1 for my flight to Vancouver. Have I enough time to get there?

Yes, 2 hours should be enough time.

I am flying into ORD from EWR on United and have 41 minutes to get to my connecting United fight to CVG. Does anyone know if this will be in the same terminal and if it's enough time between flights?

Your flight from EWR will arrive in Terminal 1 and your flight to CVG could depart from Terminal 1 or 2. However, Terminal 1 and 2 are connected inside security by walkways, so you should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • 52 minute stopover in Ohare
    Sep 13, 2014

I am trying to purchase a flight for November. The flight I am looking at would have me flying from Des Moines to Ohare (for a 52 minute stopover) and then to Heathrow (London), with all my flights going from United which I believe lands and departs from Terminal 1 in Ohare. I will not have check baggage, only carryon. Is the 52 minute stopover enough time to make my connection to my intl flight via United to Heathrow? Will I have to go through customs again before boarding my intl flight? I don't want to purchase a flight i might not be able to actually work, and I obviously don't want to miss my flight. Thank you

You do not have to go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you will have to do in ORD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Your DSM flight will arrive in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Your LHR flight will depart from Terminal 1. Terminal 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. 52 minutes should be enough time.

And if there are any delays on the DSM flight arrival into Ohare--will that cause any issues?

You could be about 25-30 minutes late into O'hare and still be OK. If you're not on the last flight of the evening to London, you will be rebooked on the next flight. United has 3 daily O'Hare-London flights.

  • Do I need to claim luggage at ORD? (Flying from YUL to ORD to ICN)
    Sep 13, 2014
    4
Hi, I was just wondering if I need to claim my luggage once I arrive at the ORD airport (terminal 2) to then catch my other flight to ICN in South Korea (Terminal 5). I'm travelling from YUL (Canada) to ORD with Air Canada, then from ORD to ICN with Asiana Airlines. Do I have to claim my luggage then? I'm not sure how it works. I have a 2 hr 25 min layover. And the other way around, do I need to claim my luggage at the ORD airport when I travel from ICN to ORD with Asiana Airlines, and then ORD to YUL with Air Canada? Thanks in advance!!!

On your way to Seoul you will not have to claim your luggage in ORD if you purchased your tickets together. AC should be able to tag your bags through to Asiana and you will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. You will however take the ATS Train from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 and go through security. On the way back, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk then you will take the ATS Train from T5 to T2 and go through security.

I bought them on expedia on the same itinerary so it's purchased together right? Thank you so much for your help!!!!

Yes, that means it's purchased together.

    Thanks a bunch!

  • 1 hour 20 minute connection

I am arriving into Chicago at 10.40 in terminal 5 from the UK and have a connection at terminal 1, 1 hour 20 minutes later will this be plenty of time, i amd flying with United Airlines

No, that is below the minimum connection time for such a connection (90 minutes is the minimum time). It's possible but it will be risky and have no spare time for any delays.

do i have to collect my luggage as i am still flying with the same airline

Yes, you have to claim your luggage to go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check counter immediately afterwards.

    thank you for your help

We are flying from UK on AA and arrive at T5 with 2hrs and 15mins to the departure of our next AA flight to Reno. Can we drop our bags at T5 after exiting customs and will we have enough time to get our flight at T3

Yes, there is a re-check desk in T5 to drop your bags at and yes, 2 hr 15 mins should be enough time.

  • 1hr15 to connect SFO - ORD - LHR
    Sep 10, 2014

I am British, flying back on a BA codeshare flight from SFO to LHR and the stopover in Chicago is 1hr 15. I change from AA to BA though it is codeshare. Will I have to collect and recheck bags, and will I have time?

No, you will not have to claim your bags as you do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. However, you will either have to wait for the Infrequent T3 to T5 shuttle for BA passengers or take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and then go through security in T5. You should have enough time though.

  • International to Domestic Connection

Hi, I will be flying on Envoy Air (as American Eagle) for both of my flights. I have only 1 h 25 mins (both flights purchased at the same time through American Airlines) to make a connection between my flight from Kitchener to my flight to Madison. I will have one gate checked bag. Will this be enough time to make the connection? I assume that I will have to pass through customs....

Yes, since Kitchener doesn't have immigration preclearance you will arrive in Terminal 5 where you will go through US Immigration and Customs, then you will take the ATS train from T5 to T3 and go through security and to your departure gate which will be on concourse G. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • 40 minute connection

My flight arrives in ORD at 6:20PM from DTW with British Airways and then I have only a 40 minute layover to get to my flight to London via British Airways at 7PM. Is that connection time enough? I'm thinking I probably won't have to switch terminals since they are both British Airways flights. Really don't want to miss my flight.

I will also only be taking carry on luggage, no check baggage.

British Airways does not fly from DTW to ORD. That flight will be operated by American Eagle and will arrive in Terminal 3. Please double check your itinerary. Is your flight to London operated by British Airways or American. if it is operated by American it will also leave from Terminal 3. if it is opereated by British Airways it will leave from Terminal 5 and you will have a very tough time making your connection.

I'm flying in from LIT Little Rock on United Express and flying back out on United Express to YQB Quebec City. I have a 41 minute connection time.....is that enough? Do most Canada flight depart from Terminal 1?

Both flights will actually likely be in Terminal 2, but either could be in Terminal 1 as well. They are connected inside security by a walkway.

Coming in on United from BTV and flying United to Vancouver. International? How do I get from one terminal to another

You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 and depart from Terminal 1. You do not have to use Terminal 5, the "International Terminal". Terminal 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway.

My flight arrives in terminal 3 and i have to get to terminal 5. Is 1 hr 40 min time between flights sufficient. Arrival - american eagle.

Yes, that should be enough time. What airline are you flying out of T5?

Thank you for the response. etihad. Do they have a shuttle bus inside secure area? or do i have to go through security again?

No, there is no shuttle bus for Etihad passengers. You will have to take the ATS train and go through security again.
