I"m flying from BOI to ORD to EDI all United. Do I have to claim my baggage at ORD and recheck it for the EDI flight?

No, you only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate on your way to EDI. All United gates at ORD are connected inside security.

  • Do I have enough time?
    Mar 15, 2015
Hey, I'm flying from LHR to SFO via ORD. I'm arriving at 15:20, Terminal 5, my connecting flight is departing at 17:00, Terminal 3, with American Airlines. What do you think? 1:40h enough time as an european?

Yes, that should barely be enough time.

  • Enough Layout Time?
    Mar 11, 2015
My friend is travelling from FRA via UA arriving at terminal 5 while being on ESTA. Next she has to catch a domestic flight operated by EastAsia Airlines to Burlington IA through. The layout time in ORD is 2.5 hours. Can anybody inform me if this time is sufficient enough? Thank you

    Layover time btw :)

The name of the airline that flies to Burlingtion, Iowa is called Air Choice One. They operate from Terminal 3. That should be enough time. They likely won't be able to check her bags through to BRL, so she will probably have to claim them in T5 and bring them to T3 to check with Air Choice One. Even if they are able to tag them through to BRL, she will have to claim them to go through customs, but then will be able to re-check them in T5. Either way I think she has enough time.

  • Transferring baggage from terminal 3 to terminal 5
    Mar 11, 2015
My Mother is travelling via Air India from terminal 5. She is landing in terminal 3 via US Airways. Since the airlines are different she needs to re-checkin her baggages. Since the air india counter is only in terminal 5 she will have to take the baggages from terminal 3 to terminal 5. I have heard that baggage is not allowed in ATS?? If not, then what is the alternative? Does she need to take porter assistance?

Yes, she will have to take her baggage with her to T5. Baggage is allowed on the ATS. The only thing that is not allowed are the rental baggage carts.

  • layover time--enough?
    Mar 10, 2015
Sorry for a double post--maybe this is the right forum. I am looking into tickets, and for the return trip I have 90 minute layover at ORD. The arrival is from Frankfurt into Terminal 5 (United/Lufthansa codeshare), the departure on United is from terminal 1 or 2. Is 90 minutes enough to get through passport control, customs, then to the other terminal? I will probably have only a carry-on, but not sure., Thanks

90 minutes is enough time, especially if you aren't checking a bag.

  • layover time--adequate?
    Mar 10, 2015
On May 7 I will be arriving into ORD at 7:15 p.m. on United, and at 8:50 p.m. I have a United flight to Richmond. I do not know the terminals I would land at. Does 1:35 seem like enough time to go through passport control & customs, and then get to the departure terminal? I doubt I'll have bags checked (just carry-on)

Sorry, flying into ORD from Frankfurt (Lufthansa/United codeshare), looks like T5 arrival. Departure might be T1 or T2. An hour-and-a-half--enough to get through passport/customs and then to departing gate?

  • Maui to Chicago to Philly
    Mar 9, 2015
We are looking at a flight from Maui to Chicago and then Chicago to Philly with an hour between to catch our final flight to Philly. It looks like I would be coming in to concourse B and would need to depart from C to Philadelphia. Is an hour enough time between flights to get from B to C as well as have our bags transferred?

That is plenty of time. There's also a good chance that both flights could be in B or both flights could be in C. United uses all those gates. It takes maybe 5 minutes to walk between all gates in Terminal 1. B and C are connected by an underground walkway.

Thank you! That puts my mind at ease.

  • Connection to Istanbul
    Mar 9, 2015
I am flying into ORD from DEN on United with a connection on Turkish Air to Istanbul. Will I arrive on one terminal and depart on another? Do I have to go back through security? Currently I have 1hour and 42 minutes layover, providing I arrive at ORD on time.

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 1 and depart from Terminal 5. The ATS Train connects them outside security, so you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5. Assuming your tickets were purchased together your baggage will be transferred automatically though.

  • Transfer domestic to international
    Mar 9, 2015
Hi, my flight from albuquerque with AA arrives at ORD at 16.50, I am then booked on the 18.10 BA flight to LHR. I will have a checked bag, but I guess this is transferred automatically? Do you think I have enough time to make the flight? Many thanks

Yes, it will be automatically transferred. Yes, you should have enough time. You can either take the British Airways shuttle bus inside security or take the ATS Train and go through security in Terminal 5.

Will an hour and 13 minutes be enough time to get from an arriving flight from Vancouver to my next flight flying to fort Lauderdale? How long is customs for people outside of the U.S?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Have we got enough time to make our connecting flight?
    Mar 8, 2015
Hi, we're travelling from the UK to Nashville via Chicago at the end of this month. We arrive at 3.10pm and our next flight is at 5pm. Is that enough time do you think to clear customs, collect bags and change terminals please? Thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • VIE-ORD-MCI Connection
    Mar 7, 2015
I'm booking United Airline flights - VIE to ORD, arrive 1:35 PM Terminal 5 International. Depart to MCI at 3:30 PM Terminal 1. Is that generally enough time to deal with customs and checked baggage?

Yes, that is probably enough time.

  • FRA - ORD - ICT
    Mar 7, 2015
My wife and our two toddlers will be arriving to ORD from FRA and onto ICT with 2:05 of layover. My question is if I travel to Chicago around the time they will be landing, will I be able to move freely between terminals so I can go get their checked bags and help recheck them back? she will need to change terminals from T5 to T2

You cannot get their bags for them. The baggage claim for international passengers in T5 is sealed off. They will have to claim their own bags to bring them through US Customs. Then if their tickets were bought together, they can immediately re-check them at the transfer desk in T5. Therefore, you don't need to help them with their bags.

  • Connection SLC-ORD-LHR
    Mar 6, 2015
I have a layover of 1.5 hours. I'm not checking a bag. Is that enough time to get from terminal 3 to terminal 5?

What airline are you flying to LHR? If you're flying British Airways then yes, that is enough time. You can take the ATS Train but you have to go through security in T5, or you can take the British Airways shuttle bus which runs inside security but infrequently.

American to ORD, British Airways to LHR

Yes, then you can use either of the methods I described above.

  • Enough time for checked luggage transfer?
    Mar 5, 2015
My flight itinerary has been changed by United. I fly into ord from Buffalo and have a 1h8m layover before departing for Fort Lauderdale. Will that be enough time for my checked luggage to get transferred to the second plane? Thanks in advance

Yes, that should be plenty of time.
