Never been to Chicago airport before. I fly from Tampa to Chicago and then home to Dublin with a 2 hour layover. I need to get from terminal 1 to terminal 5. Have I enough time?

That should be enough time. You just take the ATS Train from T1 to T5 and go through security.

Hi, We are flying from Toronto landing at 757 am and are looking to hit our connecting flight to Maui for a 930am departure. We are flying United on both flight!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

Good day! I will connect in ORD but with 75 mins only. The ititerary will be Tampa -> ORD -> Beijing China, all fights are American Airlines. Could you kindly advisor whether 75 mins is enough? And general procedure in ORD? Thanks a lot!

All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the H/K concourse of Terminal 3. As long as your flight from Tampa is on-time you should have plenty of time.

Thanks ZAP for your reply! But shall I go through immegration and customs in between the arrival and departure gate? Since this is a domestic to internaltional transit and I'm holding Chinese citizen. Thanks, again!

There is no US Immigration and Customs when leaving the US.

Hi there, I will be flying from Washington - Chicago Ohare (American Airline) and then flying from Chicago to Toronto (American Eagle) with 40min lay over in between, is there going to be enough time? Do i have to go through the US custom and security check all over again? Thank you!

All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US customs when leaving the US. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

we will arrive at ORD at 11;35 and depart at 12:21. first time at ORD. will we have time to stop by one of the United Clubs, and if so which one is closest to the arrival terminal or departure terminal going to OKC.

We will be flying EDI to ORD Terminal 5 and then ORD to YXU Terminal 2 both flights booked with the same airline. Will we need to collect our luggage at T5 to go through customs or will it be transferred to T2 for the next glight?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to T2 and go through security.

Hi there, we will be flying from Vienna to Chicago with Austrian and then have 6 hour layover before our flight to Omaha with American Airlines. Because this reservation is on two separate tickets, what do we have to do to re-check our luggage to Omaha? Do we need to completely leave the arrival terminal before checking in with American or can we stay in the terminal and treat our second trip as a connecting flight? Thank you so much for your help!

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs, then take your bags with you on the ATS Train to Terminal 3 to Re-check them with American and then go through security.

    Thanks so much!

Yes, it is enough time if your first flight is on-time and both tickets are on the same reservation. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 5.

    Thanks for your quick response.

  • Canada to Middle-East connection at ORD

Hi, I am going to fly from Montreal to Abu Dhabi with a 4-hour connection in Chicago ORD. The airlines are American Airlines - SkyWest for American Eagle between YUL and ORD, and Etihad Airways between ORD and AUH. I suppose I have enough time. But could you reassure me because it's the first time I'm connecting through the USA. I am used to connecting through international areas in Europe. They are more convenient.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. Your arrival into Chicago will be like a domestic flight. if your bags are tagged through to Abu Dhabi then you just have to take the ATS Train from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 and go through security. if you have two separate reservations, then you will have to claim your bags from T3, take them on the ATS Train with you to T5, re-check them with Etihad and get your Etihad boarding pass, and go through security. You have plenty of time.

OK, thanks for your answer. So, the US customs are in Montreal. The Canadian airport is the place that I am supposed to reach in advance to have enough time to clear these customs. No hassle after that in ORD. I suppose it's longer than clear the Canadian customs to travel to Europe at YUL ? About my tickets, they are not separated. It's the same reservation. So, as you said, no need to bring back the luggage, I'm surprised.

Usually US Immigration and Canadian preclearance airports such as YUL is fairly quick, but you are supposed to get there early for it.

I am flying in on a domestic flight in march and the connection time is 44 minutes. I have no checked bags. Is this enough time to make the connecting flight?

What airline are you flying? Where are you flying from and to?

american airlines flying into chicago from harrisburg and leaving for tulsa. no switching of airline.

Then yes, that should be enough time as long as your first flight is on-time.

I'm flying from Vienna to ORD and then to SFO. Layover is 2h 10m. International flight is operated by Austrian Airlines, domestic one is United, but both of them say United. Do I have to re-check my bags in ORD and will I have enough time to transfer to terminal 1?

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security. You should have just about enough time.

Hi- Below are my flight details. Will I have enough time to connect to a different terminal (comments on terminal change) with the layover provided here? Cleveland, OH, US (CLE) to Chicago, IL, US (ORD - O'Hare) 6:45 am - 7:15 am (1h 30m) UA 3717 | Embraer RJ145 Operated By EXPRESSJET AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXPRESS Long layover Terminal Change United Economy (XN) (lowest) Economy Plus® Essentials Economy Plus® Enhanced 2h 15m connection Chicago, IL, US (ORD - O'Hare) to Kahului, HI, US (OGG) 9:30 am - 1:18 pm (8h 48m) UA 202 | Boeing 777-200 Wi-Fi Long layover Terminal Change

Yes, that is plenty of time. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1, they are connected inside security by a walkway.

  • Domestic then International, Only 1 hour transit time at ORD

Hello, I am a visitor and will be flying from Philadelphia to ORD (arrives T1), then connect to Tokyo (departs T1). My ticket is purchased from ANA but my itinerary says both legs will be operated by United. Do I need to go through security or claim baggage at ORD? Is 1 hour transit time enough? Any idea whether both flights will be at the same Concourse at T1?

All you have to do at ORD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will almost certainly depart from concourse C. You could arrive in Concourse B or C. All United gates at ORD are connected inside security. You have enough time.

Thanks so much for your advice!

Hi - we've got a 1 hour 50 mins connection from a brussels ariline flight and then on to a MCO flight (all with United) - we arrive at ORD at 11:55 Thanks

That should be barely enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security and to your departure gate.

Thanks Zap, I could change the flights and go for the later United flight, but it's at 19:15 which would mean 3 hours or more waiting around. I was thinking that I should leave it and then if we miss the connection United would put us on this flight anyway?

Also, would purchasing the Premier Access speed up the immigration and also the security for the connecting flight?

Premier Access doesn't help you in immigration, but it will speed up security. Yes, if you did miss the connection United would put you on the later flight if there are seats available, but I wouldn't count on there being empty seats on a flight to Orlando.
