  • Do I go through security again?
    Apr 14, 2014
    2
I am coming into terminal 3 at ORD on American Airlines and connecting in terminal 2 for US AIRWAYS. Do I pass through security again? I did last time I was at ORD but really felt like I made a mistake somewhere since it was my first time there.

At ORD, you may use either the walkways at post-security areas of Departures level (follow signs) - at T3 the walkway is near Concourse G. (Taking the ATS train would require you to go through security check).

Thank you!! that was the mistake I made.... I took the TRAM and wasted a lot of time and energy.

I am coming to Chicago from Boston on american and have a connecting flight to Knoxville 45 minuteson US AIR. Do i have an enough time to connectr?

While US Airways is in Terminal 2 (T2), American is in T3 - use walkway at past-security areas of Departures level (follow signs)and hurry.

Both of your flights will be on American/American Eagle and will be in Terminal 3.

I am frlying in to ORD from Portland Oregon then to london Heathrow. Both on united, i have 65 minutes wheels down to wheels up. i am tsa pre approved. is this enough time.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will not have to go through security in Chicago. Both flights will be in Terminal 1.

  • American Airlines Connecting Flight (domestic) - is 40 minutes enough?
    Apr 9, 2014
    1
I'm about to purchase a ticket from NYC to Green Bay, WI - it connects at O'Hare. ARRIVING FLIGHT is a "Republic dba American Eagle operated Coach on a American E75" CONNECTING Flight is a "Envoy Air dba American Eagle operated Coach on a American ER4" There are 40 minutes between the arriving and connecting flights… I have no idea if these two flights would be within the same terminal (I'm assuming so, since it's the same airline)…or whether 40 minutes is cutting it too close? Also, if I check a bag, does anyone know if it would be put on the connecting flight for me or if I would be responsible for picking it up at baggage claim and then re-checking it onto connecting flight? Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, all of those flights will be within Terminal 3 and all gates there are connected inside security. Your bags will be transferred automatically - you won't have to do anything with them in Chicago. That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 in two hours?
    Apr 8, 2014
    2
Hello, I am going to be flying to O'Hare into terminal 1 via United. I have two hours to catch my flight to Dublin via Aer Lingus (assumining terminal 5). Will that be enough time with just carryon luggage? I am gathering I have to take the airport train and then go back through security?

Yes, you have the procedure correct. It should be plenty of time if your first flight is on-time, the transfer shouldn't take more than 45 minutes.

    Thank you!

  • Canadian Traveling to NYC with a 55 min layover in Chicago
    Apr 4, 2014

Hi, We arrive from Canada to Chicago at 9:05am our connecting flight leaves at 10am giving us 55 mins to get from I assume terminal 5 to our next terminal is this enough time? Will we have to pass customs or obtain luggage before connecting to our next flight? Any help would be great. Thanks Miranda

Where in Canada are you coming from? You will only have to use Terminal 5 if the airport you are coming from does not have pre-clearance.

We're coming from Winnipeg, Manitoba I believe we go through customs at the airport here. I'm just worried its not enough time for us to get to our connecting flight. However they probably wouldn't make that time if it wasn't possible we're just new to flying over the border.

Since you pre-clear US Immigration in Winnipeg you will not have to go to T5. Both of your flights will be in terminals that are connected inside security - T1 and T2. All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Transfering from a domestic flight to the international terminal
    Apr 2, 2014

I am taking an international flight in a few weeks. Because it's international, I'm assuming it will fly out of terminal 5. I live 3 hours from Chicago and am considering being a separate flight from our small airport into Chicago. I found one that would arrive at 10:55am. Since it's domestic, I'm assuming it will fly somewhere besides terminal 5. The international flight leaves at 12:35pm Is 10:55am to 12:35pm (i.e., 1hour 40 minutes) enough time to transfer from one of the DOMESTIC terminals to terminal 5? Since it would be a separate flight, I don't know if I would have to get baggage? Do I have to go back through security at Terminal 5 anyway? What is the usual turnaround time for security in Terminal 5...this is a Tuesday am...if that makes a difference. Thanks!

P.S. The last time my husband bought a separate ticket like this they DID transfer the bags the whole way. The action I am considering is actually identical to what he did last time.

Only some international departures use T5. United, American, Lufthansa, ANA, Air Berlin and Qatar Airways intl departures use T1 or T3. Tell me what airlines you're planning on flying and i can help you more.

OH...THANKS!! I would be flying in American Airlines (land 10:55); I would be flying out Air Korean (at 12:35pm).

In that case yes, you would have to transfer from T3 to T5 on your way out and T5 to T3 on your way back. I think that would be enough time for your transfer. It will take about 15 minutes to get to T5 via the ATS train and then you will have to go through security. If you can get AA to check your bags through to Korean you won't have to claim them first (on your way out of the US).

    Thanks so much!!

  • Enough time for customs, etc.

I am arriving by Air France at3:45 pm, assuming at Terminal 5. I need to catch a United flight at terminal 2 departing at 5:05 pm. I only have carry on baggage. I don't know what type of security I will need to lclear coming from France. Will I have enough time to make the connection to my 5:05 pm departure in Terminal 2?

No, that is not enough time. You need at least 90 minutes to safely make an international->domestic connection at ORD. Additionally, since Air France and United are not in the same alliance, United will be less inclined to help you if you miss your connection due to the Air France flight being late.

I sort of thought it would not be enough time. but thanks for the info about the time allowed to clear security on the return flight...I have decided to drive to Chicago! Big help, thank you.......

  • ORD connection LHR/ORD/SDF
    Mar 31, 2014

Flying Virgin Atlantic LHR to ORD , flight 39 , arrival ORD at 13:35. Connecting to American Airlines AA5330 departing at 16:10. Is this enough time to connect? Will I be able to check bags all the way through at London?

Were your tickets bought on one reservation or separate? If they were bought together, Virgin Atlantic and American do have an interline agreement so they should be able to check your bags through to Louisville. However, you will still have to claim your bags after you go through immigration, then go through customs, then re-check them with American. if they cannot be tagged through to SDF, you will have to bring them with you on the ATS train to Terminal 3 and check them there.

Also, you should have enough time in either case.

  • Enough time to catch flight?

I am travelling from Stockholm (Sweden) to Orlando and have 2hours and 10 min to pass custom and get from terminal 1 to terminal 5 at lunch hours at April 9th. Will I make it? I will probably just be travelling with hand luggage. Thanks for advice

Actually you arrive at ORD's Terminal 5, which is the International Terminal (with M gates). Thereafter, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting Terminal 1, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. You have enough time.

  • Qatar Airways - Nashville to Bangalore via Chicago

I am flying on 3/29/2014 via Qatar Airways (American Airlines) from Nashville to Bangalore. Route: Nashville to Chicago to Doha to Bangalore. Chicago to Doha - Qatar Airways, 3/29/2014, QR 722, Terminal 3. The layover time for me at Chicago for the next connecting flight to Doha is just 1 Hour 30 Minutes and I will be very much in Terminal 3 then. Would 1 Hour 30 Minutes.be sufficient to: A) Reach the Departure Gate (Chicago to Doha) within Terminal 3 B) Complete the Security Check Process

There will be no security check in Chicago. All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Terminal 3. You should have plenty of time.

  • Connection Toronto - ORD - Bozeman, MT in 1h40min
    Mar 27, 2014

I'm a German citizen flying from Toronto to Bozeman, MT connecting in Chicago. First flight (Toronto - ORD, UA 8399) is operated by Air Canada, the second flight (ORD - Bozeman, UA 3682) is just United. Is 1 hour 40 minutes enough time to connect? Do I understand the thread correctly that all immigration will be done in Toronto, so I'll only have to talk to my gate in Chicago? ... otherwise I might have to think about booking another flight to avoid having to stay the night for the flight to Bozeman will be the last for the day. Thanks so much already!

I obviously meant to write "walk" to my gate in Chicago. The flight will be on May 30th.

You have the procedure correct. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1 or 2 (they are connected inside security). All you will have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

Thank you so much! This allows for some peace of mind when traveling that route!

  • 1 hour 15 min time is sufficient

Iam traveling from kansas on us airways to chicago which will arrive on terminal 3 and again I have to take the connecting flight that is qatar airways to doha at terminal 3 but the lay over is 1 hour 15 min is that sufficient for me How I have to go??? And what about my baggage do I need to transfer my baggage myself to qatar airways???

Please note that your first flight will be operated by American or American Eagle, not US Airways. That should be a very sufficient layover time. As long as both tickets were bought together your baggage will be transferred and you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be connected inside security in T3.

Thanks a lot for ur response Ya our first flight operated by American Airlines and we have bought tha tickets together So our baggage will be transferred by them nly a kk thank you Our depart time in kansas is 5:50 pm and we reach by 7:30 pm and our layover is 1 hr 15 min So how much will be taken for security check after we arrived??? Should we have to take anyATS train to reach qatar airways departure terminal to doha in chicago??? And one more thing will us airways operated by American Airlines will charge for baggage We are traveling in economy class

All of your flights will be in Terminal 3. You will not have to take the ATS Train or go through security. If you are on an international itinerary, American should not charge you to check your baggage in Kansas.

Thanks a lot for ur valuable information

Zap, My flight schedule is similar to the above. Qatar Airways: Nashville to Chicago to Doha to Bangalore.

ZAP ,from Hyderabad to doha to chicago , in qatar airways and from chicago to kansas American Airlines ,so I have booked the tickets together so I have to collect the baggage and I will have to go through security check and I will arrive at terminal 5 in chicago and I have to departure at terminal 3 to kansas so I have nly 2 hr 20 min time is that sufficient for me Plz give rpl and help me iam little bit nervous abt that

  • will I make it?

I'm a visitor arriving from France with AA at 14:35 with 3 family members. Will I be able to catch the next domestic AA connection within just 1:40 ? Or should I book the next flight after about 7 hours?

The 1:40 connection is makeable but doesn't leave much room for delays.

Your transfer time does not allow flight delay for incoming AA flight. You will arrive at Terminal 5 (T5) and need to depart from T3. International arrivals need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to connecting terminal, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. T3 has Concourse/ gates L to the left, the Y-shaped gateway to Concourses /gates K & H in the center and to the Rotunda (leading to T2) and Concourse G to the left. Check overhead screens on arrival for your flight & gate number.

  • Intl to domestic transfer for unaccompanied minor
    Mar 20, 2014

my child will be arriving on air france in the afternoon. he will then need to transfer to another airline for a domestic flight on american airlines. i need to buy the AA ticket. how much time should i leave for transfer? and how does it work, transferring from one unaccompanied minor program to another?

Transferring from one UM program to another is rare and I'm not sure there ARE any procedures for it. How old is the child. He or she may have to not travel as a UM for their American flight as there will be no guardian to check them in. If it is workable, I would leave at LEAST 3 hours for the transfer.
