Hi, I have a 60 minute connecting time in O'hare between my arrival from Phoenix to my departure to Brussels (I arrive at 1650 and depart at 1750. All flights are on United. Is 60 minutes enough given my switching from a domestic to an international flight at O'hare? Will I need to switch terminals ?

Yes, that is enough time. You do not have to change terminals. Both flights are in Terminal 1. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Awesome, thanks a lot!

Am flying from Shannon Airport into Chicago. Then have flight to Denver. There is only 45 minutes in between flights. Would this be enough time?

If both flights are on United then you just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate and it's just enough time.

Thank You. It would involve moving from Terminal 5 to 1. And would we need to go through security etc?

United arrivals from Shannon do not arrive in Terminal 5. Only Aer Lingus ones do.

  • 60 Min Layover - Arr Luftansa Dep United on same reservation

Is 60 minutes enough time arriving on LH (FRA - ORD - MCO) and departing for MCO on United. Not sure if I even need to change terminals or if immigration will slow us down enough. We both have Global Entry. This is also on a Saturday (6.25.16).

With global entry and no checked bags it might be possible, but I personally wouldn't try it. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 1.

I will be flying on United from IAH and will arrive Ohare Terminal 1. We have a Terminal change and 45 minutes to get to our connecting flight to Ottawa. Is there some way to get there besides walking? The last time we did this we would have missed the plane if it hadn't been delayed. Is there something we can request to get us there in time? Thanks

The only way is walking. It honestly shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.

  • Terminal Connection

I'm travelling from Vegas - ORD - Manchester (UK). I have a layover time of 55minutes in ORD. Both my connecting flights are AA and my arrival and departure is into/from Terminal 3. I will have 2 checked cases. I'm just wondering whether I have to collect my cases, go through customs, security etc or whether it will be done for me considering the flights are on one ticket and I will be in the same terminal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You don't have to do anything with your bags or go through security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

You will need to collect them and go through customs when you return to the US but you will not need to do that on the way to the UK.

  • Time required to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2

Will be getting flight from Denver to Ohare and then connecting flight to ABE. United Flight will land in terminal 1 and then have to go to terminal 2 to get United Express flight to ABE. About how long does it take to walk from say a B5 gate to a F22 gate. Trying to figure out in case my plane is late landing in Ohare how fast I have to run to make the connecting flight. Only have 45 minutes between flights if on time. Worried about if my flight is late landing in Ohare.

It will take about 5-10 minutes to walk that.

We are traveling SFO-ORD-FCO Rome on United with a connection time of 1hr and checked luggage. How do we navigate that and do we have enough time? Do we have to go through security again?

You do not have to go through security or do anything with your bags on your way to Rome. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1. You have enough time.

  • Air Canada

flying on UAL from Springfield, il then Air Canada to Okinawa via Toronto to Tokyo to OKA. Air Canada is telling me I can have them tag my luggage in Springfield for Okinawa, and my flight leaves from Terminal 2. Do I have to do anything special about customs?

No, you don't have to do anything regarding customs in Chicago. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. In Toronto you will go through Canadian passport control and to your departure gate.

Flight I'm booking is YOW-ORD-SBN. Best arrival time for me has a 45min connection in ORD. I'll have no checked luggage. Would this be doable or should I look for a longer connection?

What airline(s) are you on? It is possible to make this connection assuming everything goes smoothly, but personally I would never schedule such a tight connection at O'Hare. Remember that gates close 10-15 min before departure depending on the airline, so "45 minutes" really means 25-30 minutes. (Fortunately in your case there is an "out" because if things really go haywire you could rent a car and drive to South Bend.)

The other good thing is that both of these flights' gates will probably be in T2. (Only United Express flies ORD-SBN).

We are traveling SAT-ORD-PVG on United with a connection time of1hr 20 mins and checked luggage. How do we navigate that and do we have enough time?

This is a reasonable connection assuming your incoming flight is on time. Your United flight SAT-ORD will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2. Assuming your flight ORD-PVG is operated by United (not a code share) it should depart from Terminal 1. T1 and T2 are connected inside security so you do not have to go through security again. Ordinarily your checked luggage will be automatically transferred through to PVG (i.e. you will not have to collect and re-check it). Be aware that boarding starts and closes early for international flights: it may start as much as an hour before departure, and will likely close 20 minutes before departure. It would be a good idea to proceed directly to your gate after landing.

  • How Long do we need to get through security and to our gate?
    May 30, 2016
Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I have a group of 56 senior citizens departing ORD Terminal 3 on 2 June 2016 on an Alaska Air flight at 9:35 AM. How much time will they need to get through security and to their gate? I have them arriving at ORD tentatively at 7:00 AM. Will that be enough time for them? Any helpful information for this situation will sincerely be appreciated!

For 56 senior citizens, you will need to arrive at least three days prior to your departure.

More seriously, this will depend on several factors. Ideally they will ALL be checked in ahead of time and will not have to check luggage. If anyone in the party has to check in or check luggage it could add a lot of time. O'Hare security has been very unpredictable lately so it is hard to say whether this is enough time.

  • Terminal connection for United from SAN to YUL through ORD
    May 30, 2016
My arrival time on June 3 from SAN to ORD is 3:19 pm Departure time from ORD to YUL is 5:30 pm. Can I make it? What are the connection terminals in ORD for United?

If your flights are operated by United (not code shares) they will arrive and depart from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. The distance between is walkable and you will not need to go through security again. This should be an easy connection unless your incoming flight is long delayed.

  • enough time?
    May 25, 2016
on June 3, arriving ORD from MSP on Delta at 2:34pm. Leaving on Aer Lingus for Dublin at 3:50. If bags are checked through, is this enough time to get from T3 to T5? Do we still go through security? And if I cannot get all the boarding passes in M'polis, where do I get them in ORD?

You will need to exit the secured area at T3, take the ATS (train) to T5, and go through security again. I assume your bags will be checked through but I never check luggage so don't have experience with that. When I connected through T5 weekend before last it took a little over 2 hours to clear security. There are reports that things have improved since then. It would be wise to proceed immediately to T5 from your incoming flight without stopping for a meal or the like. There are restaurants and shopping (though not many) inside security at T5.

  • Not sure which terminal I come in on
    May 26, 2016
Coming into ORD from NYC may I ask which terminal I will come into on a United Flight? Thank you so much this has been so helpful in the past!

All United flights arrive and depart from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Which terminal will depend on your specific flight. Full-size planes use T1 while regional jets mostly use T2, though regional jets sometimes use T1 also. The two terminals are connected and you can walk between them, though the walk can be a little long.

Slight correction, this applies to domestic flights only. International arrivals are at Terminal 5.

  • Will I have enough time
    May 25, 2016
I am arriving on United in Term 2 at 4:50 pm on Fri June 10 and have to get my checked bag then get to Air Choice One Term 3 flight that leaves at 6:50 pm. Will I have enough time to make my flight?

If your incoming flight is on time this should be no problem at all. You can walk from T2 to T3 without exiting the secure area. In fact when I am at T2 sometimes I will walk over to T3 because the restaurants are better. ;-)

If my United flight does come in to T1 can I still make it to T3 gate? Not sure if I want to bring a checked bag if that will hold me up to get to my flight home. Thank you so much for your help you have no idea how much I have been sweating this!

Two hours is more than enough, since you will not have to clear security again. For information, it turns out the longest possible walk within O'Hare is 1.04 miles. This would be if you arrive at the end of the C concourse of T1. You would then need to walk to the middle of C concourse, go down to a short tunnel that takes you to B concourse, and from there to the outskirts of T2 and onward to T3. All together this might take 30 minutes, more or less depending on how fast you tend to walk and how much you have to carry. No need to "sweat it" assuming your incoming flight is reasonably close to on time arrival. As for baggage, I do not know if Air Choice can interline your bag to United. If not, having to collect and re-check your bag would be a major hassle and could turn an easy connection into an uncomfortable one.

Thank you thank you! I realize that not checking my carry on is what makes TSA lines longer but this is exactly why travelers don't want to. ')
