  • Traveling from GSP to New Delhi via ORD (United airline then Air India
    Sep 8, 2016
My flight from GSP will reach ORD and then connecting flight (single ticket) to New Delhi (through Air India) at Terminal 5. I have 2 hours. Is it sufficient time to go from terninal 2 to terminal 5 with two small kids (1 and 4 years old). Please suggest

Yes, that should be enough time.

Thanks...how much time it will take to cross the security check in terminal 5? Please let us know ...could you please let me know the gate no. For air India on terminal 5?

It should take 30-45 minutes to go through security in T5. You won't know the exact gate in T5, but Air India usually uses a gate close to security.

  • layover time

I'm arriving on a weekday about 8:00 am from Columbia CAE on United Express, headed to Honolulu HNL on United. Is 1 hr 2 min enough time to make the connection? Or is that cutting it really close?

Yes, that is possible. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Terminal 3 and 5 ,security check is necessary?

I am travelling from Denver to Bangalore ,my American airlines flight lands at Terminal 3 Chicago Ohare airport and I need to catch my international flight at terminal 5(Qtar airlines).Do I need to pass through security again in Chicago(b/w T3 and T5).I have 2 hours layover.I have a single ticket from Denver till Bangalore.

Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5. You should have enough time.

    Thank you so much!!!

  • Enough time
    Sep 7, 2016
Hello, i am travelling from London to Chicago with British Airways and will land at 18:35, with my next flight to New Orleans (flight bought on the same ticket, operated by American Airlines) at 20:00. I am traveling with a visa so need to go through immigration, and also have a checked bag. Is there enough time to catch my connecting flight? Thank you!

That is a very difficult connection. Be prepared to spend an extra night in Chicago if there is not a later flight to New Orleans.

  • enough time??

I am traveling from Grand Rapids, MI to Chicago to Tokyo with a 1 hr 37 min layover, will that be enough time??

If both tickets are on the same reservation yes, that is enough time - all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • STL -> ORD -> PVG
    Sep 7, 2016
I have 1 hour and 10 minutes to get off my flight from St. Louis, and get to my flight leaving for Shanghai. I will have a checked bag, and I am a US citizen. What are the requirements for exiting the United States? Will I have enough time to go through immigration and not miss my flight?

There are no "requirements" to exit the US. If both flights are on the same reservation all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You just show your passport to the gate agent when you board the plane to Shanghai. You have enough time.

  • From MSP
    Sep 6, 2016
I will be coming from MSP-ORD with 2 checked bags and a carry-on by United. And connecting international flight ORD-HKG-CEB by Cathay Pacific. Do I have to claim my luggage when I land in ORD and re-check to Terminal 5? Will I have a hard time with bringing luggages in the transit from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5.

Also 2 separate booking reservations by the way... One from MSP is by UNITED.. The international is Cathay Pacific

Yes, you have to claim your bags from United, take them on the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and re-check it with Cathay. If you can't carry all those bags yourself you will have a tough time.

  • 45 minute layover on United
    Sep 6, 2016
I am looking at a 45 layover in ORD. I am flying United from JAN -> ORD -> BOS. Will this be enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. There is a walkway inside security from Terminal 2 where you arrive to Terminal 1 where you depart.

  • Making my connecting flight
    Sep 6, 2016
I am on a flight from MCI to ORD on sept 17 & due to arrive at 7:49 a.m. My connection flight to Cancun departs at 8:40 a.m. Can you tell me arrival and departure terminals, please? Also, will I have enough time to make my connection. Thank you.55

I can't tell you your terminals unless you post what airline you are on. If you post that, I can help you.

    Sorry. American Airlines.

Both flights will be in Terminal 3.

  • ORD to OMA
    Oct 1, 2016
I'm flying from LGA to ORD (arrive 5:39pm AA) and depart to Omaha at 7:30pm via United, will I have enough time presuming there is no delay?

Yes, if you have no checked bags that is enough time. You can walk between T3 where you arrive and T2 or T1 where you depart inside security.

I have a check in bag but I will request EK to stick a priority tag. Would 2 hours sufficient?

  • Connection time okay? 2hrs15
    Sep 5, 2016
Hi, I land in ORD on a flight from Europe at 2pm and fly out to Alaska on a United flight at 4.15pm. I will have a check-in bag. I am not a US citizen but should be pre-cleared at immigration from my departure airport. The two flights are on two separate tickets. Is this enough time to make the connection? Also, can I check my bag in for the second United flight after customs when I arrive at Terminal 5 or do I have to bring it by train to Terminal 1 and check it in there? Thank you.

What airline are you flying into ORD? If you are on Aer Lingus from Ireland that should be enough time. Those are the only pre-cleared flights that arrice in Terminal 5. It you give more specifics on your first flight I can help you more. Is everything on the same reservation?

Thank you, yes Aer Lingus but no, the flights are not on the same reservation, they are separate. I presume I can check in online for the United flight in advance so should have my boarding pass when I arrive at O'Hare.

You have to bring your bags to T1 to re-check them with United since it's on separate reservations.

Thanks so do you think I have enough time to do that in the 2hrs15? And I definitely can't check the re-check the bag after customs in T5, even if I have the United boarding pass?

There is no capability for United to put a new tag on your bag in T5, you need to take it to T1. This is a very difficult connection.

Do you think I have enough time in the 2hrs15? That is the query. If not, can you clarify why this is difficult - what part exactly is the problem?

I forgot that you will be precleared. You should have just enough time. The main risks are the time for your checked baggage to come out and the security line in terminal 1.

  • Baggage ?
    Sep 3, 2016
Arr from MSP on United .Bought ticket from UA thru to Zurich.will they transfer my bag to SWISS automatically ?

Yes, you just have to take the ATS Train from T1 to T5 and go through security.

  • time to clear customs
    Sep 3, 2016
My son's flight from Narita to ORD was delayed. He has 1h5m to make his connection to ATL. Any chance he can clear customs in that time?

    It's very unlikely.

  • Zurich -> ORD -> Toronto | 80 min layover
    Sep 3, 2016
I'll have 80 min in ORD to catch a connecting flight to Toronto. All flights are booked on the same itinerary (so I think I can check my luggage to Toronto). Will that be enough to complete all formalities? Thanks

You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to your departure terminal, and through security. You do not have enough time. You realistically need at least 2 hours.

  • Connection Time & Customs
    Sep 6, 2016
I am connecting between Arrival Terminal 5 and Departing Terminal 2. I have 1:25 to connect between terminals. What is the fastest way to transfer between the terminals and to go through Custom & Immigration? If I have liquids, sealed in a duty free bag with receipt, will I be able to carry it through as well.

No, that is not enough time and no, you cannot bring liquids through security as a carry-on even in a sealed duty-free bag. You need at bare minimum of 2 hours for such a transfer.
