  • Help! Connection from Term5 to Term 1
    May 28, 2014
    0
We are moving back from Germany so we have a lot of bags and our pet. I am concerned about only a 2hr layover. Can someone tell me the sequence of events at O'hare? We must pick up our bags and pet, go through customs, recheck our bags and catch the train to term 2. Do we recheck our bags before we catch the train to term 2 or after. If after, how do I get a family of 4 plus a large dog carrier on the train since it only stps for a short period of time? Then on the term 2 end, are there carts available close to the train? Where would the baggage check be? Please tell me we recheck our bags on the term 5 International end.

  • Arrive Terminal 2 connect in Terminal 3

Arrive from PHX in Terminal 2 and then connect to an Intl American Flight in Terminal 3. Can I get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 without having to go through security again - do the terminals connect inside the security zone/

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will go through US Immigration, claim your luggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage with Delta at the re-check desk, then you can go to the departure level, go through security, and then take the Delta shuttle bus to T2 or you can take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to T2 and go through security there.

  • 1 hour connecting time from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3

My flight departs Calgary, Alberta Canada with United, terminal 1 ( I belive) departs Chicago with American Airlines terminal 3. is 1 hour enough connecting time?

Make sure you go through U.S. Customs at Calgary. If you bought both flights on one ticket your bags will automatically be transferred; otherwise you need to claim your bag & re-check it in with AA. On arrival at ORD you can use walkways at post-security areas of the Departures level - follow signs - or take the free ATS shuttle train runs every few minutes in the unsecured areas of the terminals and go through security check before proceeding to your gate.

I have 35 minutes to connect from a local AA flight from RIC in O'hare to Narita on JAL. Is this enough time?

I have 35 minutes to connect from a local AA flight from RIC in O'hare to Narita on JAL. Is this enough time? AA's domestic flights & international departures are at Terminal 3, which has G , H, K & L concourses & gates: Concourse L to the left, the Y-shaped gateway to Concourses K & H in the center and Concourse G to the left. Check overhead screens on arrival indicating flight & gate numbers. Hurry!

I will arrive at ORD from ATL @ 12:25pm and depart @ 01:55pm to Tokyo Narita (NRT) on flights operated by American Airlines, which terminal will I arrive and depart from ORD.

Both flights will be in Terminal 3 - all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • Plane change time short

I'm flying from Seattle, WA to Burlington, VT with only 45 minutes to change planes in Chicago. Both legs on United. enough tome for checked luggage?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be enough time. All United gates at ORD are connected inside security.

You should not have to claim and recheck your baggage in Chicago. It will be checked in Seattle to your final destination and the same on the way back unless I am wrong?

Hi. I've booked a single ticket flying from Memphis to London, UK via Chicago with United. Should I make my flight, but my baggage does not, how will I get my baggage? Alternatively if I miss my flight, what if my baggage goes ahead to London without me? How do I pick it up? I only have a 1h 2min layover (the airline assured me id be okay) and I need to get from terminal 2 to 1. Will there be staff around to tell me ASAP where to go? Never connected or been to Chicago before and very afraid of missing my flight as the next one to London is the next day and United have told me they "won't necessarily put me up in a hotel" :(

You arrive at T2, Concourse F. exit the Concourse and look for signs to Terminal 1 at east end. At T1 you head to either Concourse B or C with corresponding gates (your boarding pass & overhead screens will indicate flight & gate numbers. You have plenty of time & your bags will automatically be transferred.

You should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time. United flies multiple flights a day on Chicago-London. If you are not already booked on the last one of the day you will be rebooked on a later one if your first flight is late.

  • Transfer within 50min from local to international

I am coming from st louis (AA1186) airport and it reaches Chicargo at 19.55 and my second flight to Doha (QR722) at 20.45. What are the steps i have to taken while tranfering. i am having a student having foreign passport 2 luggages (2 of 50lb)

    From what gate what

All you will have to do in ORD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be in Terminal 3. AA should be able to issue your Qatar Airways boarding pass in STL and your bags will checked through to DOH. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

If my first flight is late, say about 15 min, what can I do, will qatar flight wait ? Do I have to get by both boarding passes at STL air port or online?

You will probably have to go to the AA counter in STL to get your Qatar Airways boarding pass (I'm not 100% up to date on aa.com's capabilities). If you are 15 mins late you should still have enough time, but not much more than that. The Qatar flight will likely not wait for you. If you miss your connection you'll have to spend the night in Chicago.

  • is 45 minutes enough between term 1 & 2 if flying international?

I will be arriving in terminal 1 and need to be in terminal2 45 minutes later for an international flight? How should I get there fastest? Is 45 minutes enough time? I do not have to go through security again, correct? Thank you

Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by a walkway inside security - it is fastest to use this walkway. Are you sure you're leaving from 2? The only international flights that leave from 2 are United Express flights to Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas, and Air Canada flights.

I'm flying from toronto to ord on AA arriving 12:00 then have AA flight at 1:05 to nashville TN. Do you think that's enough time. I booked the flights together as a YYZ to BNA

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be plenty of time. Both flights will be in Terminal 3 and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks do I have to get my luggage or does the airline transfer it?

How long will it take to walk from Terminal 1, Concourse B to C? I am flying United to ORD, then connecting to LHR with a 1 1/2 hour layover

At ORD, Concourse C is a separate building, connected at its center by a walkway to the center of Concouse B). You have enough time for transfer.

Walking from B to C takes less than 10 minutes.

I am flying from St. Louis to O'Hare then on to Brussels on United. I only have 45 minutes between flights. I don't know if the STL_ORD flight lands in terminal 1 or 2. The ORD-BRU flight leave sfrom terminal 1. If I change terminals, will I have to go through airport security again?

No, if you arrive in Terminal 2 you can walk to Terminal 1 inside security via a walkway. If your first flight is on-time you should have enough time but hurry!

    Thanks for the info.

Did you make it? I have a similar situation

I don't fly until next week. I'll let you know

On 28th July, i will be flying from HKG to ORD with CX, arriving at 13:50. the connecting UA flight to Raleigh/Durham departs at 16:18. I am travelling with British passport. It's a friday afternoon. Will i have enough time to make the connection? the 2 flights are booked separately so i am worried that i cant make the connection! but the late night flight out ORD to RDU is too expensive

You should have enough time. You will have to take your bag with you on the ATS train to Terminal 1 and check it there (including paying a bag fee). However, it doesn't hurt to ask in Hong Kong if the can check your bag through to RDU as Cathay and United do have an Interline baggage agreement. If they can then you can re-check your bag in Terminal 5 after customs.

thanks very much. just worried about the queues for passport control for international visitors. What if i missed the connection? my ticket is non-refundable class. is there any chance that UA will allow me to board the next flight to RDU if they have seats left? thanks very much

Yes, they generally would allow you to stand by for a later flight.

  • Connection from ORDT5-ORDT3

I am flying with BA to ORD, then connecting to flight BA4668 (American Eagle) to Bradley CT. I have 2 hours between flights. Will my hold baggage be transferred automatically on to the flight to Bradley, or will I have to collect it and check it in again at the Republic Airlines check in desk at T3? Also will I clear customs and passport control at ORD or when I arrive at Bradley CT?

On arrival at ORD, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag; (at this point check overhead screens for your connecting flight & gate number - then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting terminal, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate.

Note that you will re-check your bags with American Airlines, not Republic (there are no Republic check-in counters).

Samay and Zap, I never saw your reply in time - I wish I had, however, thank you so much as the procedure was exactly as you described. Travellers beware, although Passport control was quick, I had to wait 30 minutes for my checked baggage, once rechecked it took another 15 minutes via ATS to get from T5 - T3 security, then another 15 minutes to clear security, before going to gate. Total time transfer time was approx 1 hour 15 minutes, but that was with no problems. I would recommend a MINIMUM of 2 hours - more if possible to have a better chance of making your connection. The return was easier as it was not necessary to re-check my hold baggage, it went all the way to the final destination.
