  • Baggage Check In Info for Air India

I've 2 separate tickets.I'm arriving at Terminal 3 of chicago o'hare through American Eagle. Then I've international flight from T5 to Air India. Can I check in my baggage at T3 for International flight. or Do I need to move all the baggage to T5 to check in the baggage. If Yes, what are the facilities. Does American Airlines transfers baggage directly for airindia. I'm travelling alone. Please advise.

You need to bring your baggage to T5 on the ATS Train. Air India has nothing in T3. American and Air India do have an interline agreement, but they are under no obligation to check your bags over to them since you purchased two separate tickets, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks.. What are the options of moving luggage from T3 to T5. Since I'm travellling after 2 years. I've quite a good amount of luggage.

The only way to get from T3 to T5 is the ATS Train, where rented baggage carts aren't allowed. If you can't carry all your baggage yourself, I recommend buying a portable baggage cart and packing it in your luggage, then either re-pack it or abandon it in T5 if you don't want to bring it back to India with you.

  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 (US citizen) Budapest - Zurich - White Plains

I will be flying through O'Hare and have 2 hours and 10 mins to go from Terminal 5 to my connection in Terminal 2 (with one checked bag). Is there anything I can do in advance to try and make this connection? I'm flying on Swiss to O'Hare T5) then United from O'Hare (T2). Travel agent booked all flights together. Flight arrives to Chicago at 15:55 but on December 20 I assume all times will be busy. Any tips or ideas?

You should have enough time. You will be able to re-check your bag in T5 after you clear customs. Be sure to check the monitors before you get on the ATS Train as your white plains flight could leave from either T1 or T2.

I have only about 15 minutes to make my appointment for global entry in international concourse. What is the quickest way and then can I return and get my luggage ?

You will have to take the ATS train and it will probably take more than 15 minutes. You'll have to hope your flight is early. Leaving your luggage on the carousel for an hour always involves some risk that it will get stolen. Also at that point it may be removed and taken to the baggage office/put in the "row" of luggage near the office. By the time you get back your flight probably won't be on the monitors anymore so you may have trouble finding it.

Thanks How much time do you think it would take to get to international terminal if my flight was early?

15-20 minutes if you happen to get a close gate in T1, walk very quickly, and get lucky by not having to wait for the train for very long.

Hi I am arriving to ORD in two days. I am coming in from New Orleans to terminal 5 and will leave 2 hours later from terminal 3 to Copenhagen with Sas. So I have two hours, only carry on luggage, can this be done? Thanks in advance.

You will not arrive from New Orleans in Terminal 5. No New Orleans-Chicago flights arrive in Terminal 5. Perhaps you have it backwards as SAS flights leave from Terminal 5. What airline are you flying from New Orleans to Chicago?

Hi, travelling from London, Ontario, Canada To Puerto Vallarta, Mexico through ORD Sunday morning Dec. 8th. Have 2 hours to connect from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1, with no US Customs pre-clearance in London. Is that sufficient time? Aso, any tips appreciated. Thanks

On arrival at ORD you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting Terminal 1, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. However, if you have no checked baggage, you can now use expedited '1-Stop' customs processing express lanes. You have enough transfer time.

Yes 2 hours should be enough time to do all that.

  • Change of terminals

Hi, I'm travelling from Phoenix to London via Chicago on 15 Dec. My flight from Phoenix arrives in Terminal 3 and departs to London from Terminal 5. What are my options for change of terminal? Also do I have to go through check-in process and security check again? Please advise. Thanks

What airlines are you flying? If your tickets were bought on the same itinerary your bags should be able to be checked through to London (although that may depend on the airlines you are flying). If you are flying in on AA and out on BA then American runs a shuttle bus that runs inside the secure area from T3 to T5. However, you will have to show your BA boarding pass to board the shuttle. If you give me more information I can help you more.

Hi, thanks for the info. I'm flying out on American Airlines fro Phoenix to Chicago and the flying out by BA. Will I get the boarding pass for BA flight at the Phoenix airport? Also will AA check-in the baggage all the way to London? Thanks

Yes, American should be able to check your bags through to London and issue you your BA boarding pass in Phoenix. I'm trying to find a map that shows the shuttle bus but I can't find one, only mention I can find of it is an older flyertalk thread - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-aadvantage/1254976-ord-airside-connection-t3-aa-ba-t3-t5.html . If you have trouble finding the shuttle or don't want to wait 30 minutes for it, you can also take the ATS Train, but doing so requires that you go back through security in T5.

I'll be travelling on January 2 from Copenhagen with SAS and connecting to Des Moins in about 3 hours, the ticket says also with SAS (Scandinavian airlines). Am I correct that I'll arrive at Terminal 5 and the flight to Des Moins departs from Terminal 1, which will mean that I'll have to receive and recheck my luggage at ORD? Where it is done best - at T5 or at T1? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5 where you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, and then you can re-check your baggage there (assuming all your flights were bought on the same reservation). Then you will take the ATS Train to T1 or T2 (your flight to Des Moines could leave from either, check the monitors before you leave T5).

Thank you for such a quick reply!

I'll be flying from Edmonton to Paris, France, and connection time at ORD is only 1 hour and 5 minutes. Both are United Airlines flights. Is that doable? Will I pre-clear US immigration in Edmonton? Do I have to re-check my bags at ORD? What about the terminals? Thanks for your help!

You will pre-clear US immigration in Edmonton. What airlines are you flying? If all your flights are on United you will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 and depart from Terminal 1, which are connected beyond security, so all you'll have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Yea, they're all on United. Should be easy then. Thanks a lot!

Arriving ORD on Lufthansa, connecting to United regional to YWG Canada. Will baggage be checked straight through to YWG or will I have to collect after US Customs & Immigration in T!. If I have to collect in T1 is their a United drop there OR do I have to take it to T2 and go through United check-in at T2?

ZAP, you will have to collect after US Immigration, go through customs and then you can re-check in T5. You can then take the ATS train to T2 or T1 (check your departure gate before boarding the train as your flight could leave from either T1 or T2).

Thanks ZAP - it is what I thought about collecting bags and thanks for the heads up for Lufthansa arrivals at T5. My itinerary shows T2 departure but I will check the boards.

  • 50 mn for connecting flight !

I'll fly with United airlines from SFO to ORD on the 7th of March and then with Brussels Airlines to Brussels. I'll have only 50 mn in ORD to change plane. Do I have to change terminal. Is 50mn enough? Thanks for your help!

Brussels Airlines does not fly to ORD. If you are flying to Brussels from Chicago, that flight will also be operated by United. If so, you will not have to change terminals. Both flights will be in Terminal 1 and both gates will be connected beyond security.

I am flying Dec 20 from Vancouver through ORD on a United Flight and out of ORD to London heathrow on United as well. Can you tell me if I will need to change terminals? Is an hour enough time to make my connecting flight during this holiday time?

No, you will not have to change terminals. Everything will be in Terminal 1 and all gates will be connected beyond security. If your first flight is on-time you will have plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver.

    1. Go through U.S. customs at Vancouver; you will be considered a 'domestic arrival' at ORD. United uses Terminal 1 at ORD for all domestic and for international departures flights, and Terminal 2 for domestic flights. If you need to transfer between the two terminals, use walkways at post-security areas of the Departures level - follow signs.

He will not need to use Terminal 2- all YVR flights are mainline and all mainline flights use Terminal 1. Also, I don't know why you keep treating it like it's a choice to go through US Immigration in Vancouver, all US bound passengers on flights with Pre-clearance HAVE to go through preclearance.

I have a booked ticket from SUX to BLR on a same ticket. I fly from SUX to ORD on Ameircan Airlines and the rest of the flight via Air India. - Can the bags be through checked in in SUX to Blr? - Do I have to take the bags out in ORD and then recheck it in in ORD? Quick response is greatly appreciated.. Thanks, SK

They should be able to be checked through if they were purchased on the same ticket as American and Air India have an interline baggage agreement. In ORD you will have to take the ATS Train one stop from T3 to T5, get your Air India boarding passes, and go through security.

    Thanks much!

How long does it take to get from C15 to B5 in Terminal 1

5-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk. They are connected by an underground tunnel with moving walkways.
