  • DUB - Nashville via ORD
    Aug 2, 2016
Hey, I am travelling from Dublin to Nashville via ORD, its booked through aer lingus on one ticket. Arriving in T5 and connecting flight is from T1. I will clear CBP in Dublin and its a midweek flight in the early afternoon. Will 1 hour 55 mins be enough here or will it be very tight? Thanks for any help.

Yes, that should be enough time. You just need to take the ATS Train from T5 to T1 and go through security.

  • Connecting Flight to Frankfurt
    Aug 1, 2016
I will be flying from Montrose, CO, to Denver, CO, to Chicago O'Hare, and then to Frankfurt, Germany, on United, and then Lufthansa to Frankfurt. Will my bags be checked all the way to Frankfurt when I check in for my first flight out of Montrose, CO? and what terminal will I fly arrive in in Chicago, and what terminal will I fly out of to Frankfurt?

Yes, you won't see your bags until you get to Frankfurt. Both of your flights in Chicago will be in Terminal 1. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Travelling from Toronto via YYZ to Sacramento California
    Jul 30, 2016
Hi, we're Filipino citizens and a family of 3 travelling from Toronto (YYZ) to Sacramento, we have a 1 hr 42 min layover in Chicago (ORD) both are via United air. Questions are: 1) are we going thru immigration in ORD or there is already a preclearance in Yyz? 2) do we need to check in our luggages again in ORD or United air will do this for us? 3) Is 1hr 42m enough? 4) If we miss our connecting flight in ORD, is our flight to Sacramento free of charge?

You will preclear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Yes, if you miss your connection in Chicago you will be rebooked free of charge.

  • Transit time
    Jul 29, 2016
I only have 50minute transit on flight from Toronto to Portland via Chicago. Both United flights. Is this enough?

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Wait time for a travel from Montreal to Beijing
    Jul 29, 2016
On sept. 15th, I'll have only 1h20 to connect from a UA (Skywest) flight from Montreal-YUL to ORD, then from ORD to Beijing. Is it enough? Any idea of which terminal I'll be using?

Yes, that is enough time. You will preclear US Immigation and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 and depart from Terminal 1. If you arrive in Terminal 2 it is connected inside security by a walkway to Terminal 1.

  • Collect Baggage at Chicago?
    Aug 3, 2016
Hi I am travelling from India to Albuquerque on 1st Aug, via Chicago in American Airlines. I have a single ticket for the entire journey, with a 2 hr layover at Chicago. 1. Do I need to collect my bags and re check them in Chicago 2. Is 2 hours enough for changing terminals and rechecking baggage (if needed)

American Airlines does not fly to India. What airline are you flying for your first flight?

Hi, I have similar situation. Travelling from India to DFW via London. From India to London it is British Airways and from London to Chicago to DFW -> these are American Airlines. My entire trip is on single ticket and my bags will be tagged to DFW, which is my final destination. Do I need to collect and recheck my bags at ORD ? My ORD connection time is 2 hr 15 minutes. Also, if I need to change the terminals am I allowed to take luggage carts on the terminal train for connections?

Yes, in Chicago you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You don't need to bring your bags with you to T3 so no need for a cart.

Thanks for your quick response. Now, considering this much to be done before I can reach my domestic gate, is 2 hr 15 minutes sufficient ?

That is usually enough time, unless of course your incoming flight is delayed.

  • Terminal 2 to Terminal 5
    Jul 27, 2016
Hello, I will be flying to ORD from the Savannah, GA airport and my connection time to Vienna is 1h35min. How long does it take to get to terminal 5 if I arrive in terminal 2 in ORD? I am worried that it will cut real close. I will not check in any luggage. Thank you.

You will have to take the ATS Train to T5 and go though security. You should have just enough time if the flight from Savannah is on-time.

  • Domestic to International connection with 3hour layover.
    Jul 26, 2016
Hi, I will be flying in from Phoenix to Chicago, then from Chicago to London and London to India. This is a single ticket purchase. Airline- British Airways. Although the first two flights have British Airways flight number but is actually operated by American Airlines. My question is, 1- Once I check my bags in Phoenix, do I need to pick it up in Chicago and go through security? 2- I don't need to change terminal because it's American to American in Chicago, so once I get out of the gate, can I proceed to the next gate within the terminal without going through security? 3- Will the boarding passes for the consecutive journey from Chicago to London be issued at Phoenix it self or do I need to collect it at Chicago? Thank you.

No, you don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago. You won't see them again until you get to India. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Chicago, no security necessary. You should be issued all three boarding passes in Phoenix.

  • 30 min connection United
    Aug 3, 2016
Hi, I have a 30 min connection time from Portland to Richmond flying United. Will these both be in Term 1 or will it be Term 1 to Term 2? Is 30 enough time, assuming the flight is on time? Thanks

Your flight to Richmond could depart from Terminal 1 or 2. They are connected inside security by a walkway. This is possible but it obviously leaves no time to spare if the flight from Portland is delayed.

Keep in mind that "30 minutes" really is less, since United closes their gates 10-15 minutes before departure time. You will need to hurry!

  • DEN-ORD-LHR on UAL, Terminal?
    Jul 25, 2016
Hi Everyone, I just booked DEN-ORD-LHR on UAL in December with a 1hr 26 min connection. Does anyone know if I'll have to change terminals? Was hoping for enough time to check out the new Polaris lounge which should be open by then. Thanks!

You do not have to change terminals. Both flights will be in Terminal 1.

  • Flight connection and US Immigration/Custom
    Jul 25, 2016
Dear all, I'll fly FCO-ORD-MEX via AZ/DL flight on next sunday I got 2 hours from when I arrive to ORD and board to MEX (DL Flight) . Are 2 hours sufficient ? Do I need to pass US Immigration or can I look for my flight for MEX directly on the same Terminal 5 ? kindest regards TIA. Fabio

Delta does not fly from ORD to MEX. That flight will be operated by Aeromexico and depart from T5. In Chicago you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have just about enough time.

Hi, I'm flying from Newark to Ottawa through ORD, booked by one reservation with UA. The flight from Newark arrives in ORD at around 10PM, T1. The next flight to Ottawa is 7AM in the morning, T2. I'm wondering if I can stay within the secured area during the layout? Or do I need to go out and re-check my bags. If I can stay inside the secured area, are T1,T2,T3 connected inside? so that I can access the 24h concessions in T3? Thanks!

No, they clear the secure areas every night after the last departure (around midnight) and if there are any later arrivals they are eschewed directly to the baggage claim. The checkpoints reopen at 3:15-3:45.

Thanks for replying. So does it mean I need to claim my baggage and recheck-in in the morning? even my flights were booked all-in-one?

You'll have to ask the agent in Newark. If the tag comes out with YOW on it then you won't have to claim them in Chicago. The system is kinda weird with what overnight connections it allows and which ones it doesn't.

  • terminal 1 to terminal 5 will I need to go through security again
    Jul 20, 2016
I will be arrive on United from GRR in terminal 1 and leaving for Doha on Qatar Airlines in Terminal 5. Will I need to go through the TSA again? Second I brought the flights on the airline websites, will I need to recheck the bag or can I have it checked to my final stop in GRR? I only have Hour and 45 minute window. Thanks

Yes, if you booked two separate reservations you will have to claim your bags in Terminal 1, take the ATS Train with your bags to Terminal 5, re-check them with Qatar Airways, and go through security. This is a very difficult connection. The check in counter closes 1 hour before the flight.

thanks, I bite the bullet and got an earlier flight into Chicago.

  • connecting through ORD to LAS from MAN
    Aug 1, 2016
Hi, AA have given me a connection time of roughly 1hr45min ,arriving at Terminal 5 and departing from Terminal 3 I believe. Is this enough time to make connection and will my bags be checked straight through or will I have to collect them and re check them as it's the first connection I've had to make on that side of Atlantic, I normally connect in Europe when travelling to USA and bags go straight through to final destination but not sure how it works in regards to customs. Many thanks

You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, go through security and to your departure gate. This is a difficult connection unless your flight from Manchester arrives early.

Thanks for reply, AA55 which is my inbound flight from UK is a very poor performing flight and is very regularly delayed for whatever reason(they've recently introduced the 788 on this route so not sure whether that's got anything to do with it and they're having some kind of teething issues). I will contact AA and see if they have any later flights to LAS as its looking around about a 10% chance i'll make it with how AA55 is performing .

Hello, I have a round trip coming back from chisinau to Munich connection than to Chicago connection and final destination is Canada. I am a Canadian citizen so my main question is will I have enough time in Chicago I have only 2 hours and if please you could tell me which is the process do i need to pick my luggage to check it? Will I have enough time to not loose my flight towards Canada?
