My Parents are travelling through British Airways/AA from Mumbai to Seattle through London & Chicago. They will have to go through Immigration and Customs in Chicago, pick up their bags and drop them at the exit for their flight to Seattle. My question is whether there will help to pick up the baggage and drop them at the airline after customs. They have 6 checked bags in total so checking to see if there will be any help available

There are carts available in the International baggage claim and they just have to take their bags from the baggage claim through customs, and to the re-check desk. They don't have to bring them with them to T3. I'm sure between the two of them and a cart they can manage.

  • ORD connection T3 to T5 on Qatar

I have heard that there is a n airside shuttle for Qatar similar to the one for BA - stays within security. The most recent information I can find of anyone mentioning it is from the middle of 2015. Does it still exist? where is it?

As far as I can tell it still exists and operates from near gate G17

    thank you!

  • Layover reduced, enough time??

Layover is now only 2 hours. Landing at 730pm on American, leaving on Turkish air at 930pm. Separate reservation. Is this enough time?

If you have checked bags, then would request an earlier AA flight. At Chicago you need to retrieve your bags at T3, then take the airport train to T5, then recheck your bags with Turkish, then go through Security. If you have no checked bags, you still need to take the train and go through Security again. I'd give myself at least 3 hours with checked bags, and preferably 4 hours. If any one step takes longer than you expect, then you could miss your flight.

Could we make it with no check bags? Just carry on.

If you have no checked bags and your flight is on time, then, yes, 2 hours is ok. Consider time to deplane, walk 10-15 minutes to train, wait for and take train (up to 30 hour), and get through Security at T5. It depends on your comfort level. I'd still give more time because O'Hare was in the news a few weeks ago for 2+ hour waits at Securty. Many people missed their flights. I don't know if it has improved. Consider if you are flying at a peak time. Turkish is not responsible if you miss the flight. It's a shame that you cannot travel airside to T5. You must exit Security at T3 and then go through Security again at T5.

Thank you so much for your feedback!! I am one of those who hate cutting it close so I went ahead and changed my domestic flight.

  • Ok use T3 lounges when flying out of T5?

I get to O'Hare super early by bus. Not arriving by plane. I have evening flight on BA from T3. I prefer lounges in T3 to T5. Can I go through Security at T3, then later take the BA shuttle to T5 (just carry-on luggage -- no checked bags). Or will TSA only let folks departing from T1-2-3 to go through Security there?

We are leaving msp on American and flying to Hong Kong on Cathay pacific. We have a 1 hour 35 minutes between flights. Is that enough time? Our flights are on one ticket. Will our luggage be checked all the way through? Will we have to go through security again on ord? Same questions on the return from Hong Kong to ord then msp?

Yes, your luggage will be checked through on your way to Hong Kong. In Chicago on the way to Hong Kong you will just take the ATS Train from T3 to T5 and go through security. On the return you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to T3, and go through security. YOu have enough time on your way to Hong Kong.

I am arriving into T5 going to T3 for a domestic flight. What terminal is customs/immigration and how to do get from T5 to T3.

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security.

  • ZRH - ORD - YYC do we have to go through immigration?

Hi Arriving in T5 on LX at ORD at 12:25 and connecting flight to YYC is in T2 on UA at 15:50. Do we have to go through immigration and use ATS to get from T5 to T2?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to T1 or T2 where you depart, then go through security. You have enough time.

thanks! so I'll have to get an ESTA just for changing planes? 200$ for not even wanting to enter the US...-.-

Yes, you will. There are nonstop flights from Zurich to Canada - you can book one of those instead.

  • MLI - ORD - ARN 1 hr 35 min connection

Arriving with AA to ORD terminal 3 at 7.30 pm, connecting flight to Stockholm with SAS from Terminal 5 at 9.05pm. Is 1 hour 35 min enough time getting to terminal 5 and through security? Will I have to re-check my luggage?

Are your tickets on one reservation or two separate reservations?

    On one reservation.

Then you won't have to do anything with your bags, just take the ATS Train to T5, get your SAS boarding pass if AA isn't able to issue it, and go through security. You should have enough time.

ok, let's hope for the best. Thank you for your help!

Hello, Arriving from Calgary to Chicago (Arrival 5:57 PM) on Westjet Terminal 5 and Departing Qatar Airways to Doha (departure 7:45 PM) on Terminal 5. Do i have enought time for transfer with two kids? Do i need to pick up baggage and then drop off? Thanks !

If you purchased two separate reservations you will have to claim and re-check your bags. You should have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Thanks for your reply. The reservation is made on a single ticket. Would i still have to claim baggage or would it be checked till AMD (India). YYC to ORD to DOH to AMD. So, basically do i just exit one gate at ORD and look for another gate departing for DOH on Qatar Airways?

In November looking at flying United from MSP. Arrive at ORD with 1 hr connection. Is 1 hour enough enough time to catch United flight out to MSY?

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thanks for your help!

I am travelling from Tokyo to Indy, and Chicago is the connecting flight, arriving Chicago at 2:45pm @ T5, and leaving to Indy 4:45pm @ T3, with required to checked luggage, should I have spare more time to choose connecting flight @ 6:30pm?

Additional info, ANA from Tokyo to Chicago, and American Airline from Chicago to Indy

Yes, the 4:45 flight is not enough time. Book the 6:30 flight.

Arriving domestic at 6:50 at Terminal 3 and have connecting flight terminal 5 on British Air at 8:35...enough time?

Yes, it's possible, Also British Airways operates a shuttle bus inside security (only for British Airways passengers) from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5.

Wow, that would be awesome. I researched a little more and I think we qualify since flying in on AA and headed to London on BA. What gate is shuttle?

The shuttle departs from gates G17 and K20.

Thanks Zap. You are very helpful. One last question (sorry, I'm a nervous traveller). Is this shuttle reliable or should I just ride transport to terminal 5 and go through security again? I'm a little anxious about getting to shuttle gate and being told it's not running and THEN trying to scramble...any suggestions?

I have 1 hr 37 min from landing at ORD to make connection to Austrian Air for Vienna Austria. Ticket is booked thru Carlson Wagonlit on United Airline numbers the entire trip. I can opt for a longer connection, but means shorter connection from Pasco to Denver (44 minutes). Will I make it? Do I change terminals?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 1 and have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
