  • International connection with United Austrian Air

We have 1:45 hrs to get a connection to Vienna on Austrian Air after arriving at OHare from Cleveland on a United code share. (Friday in august) Do we have to go through security and is this enough time? We do not have Global pre-check; just TSA precheck. Do the airlines ever wait if they know you are in the airport and on your way to the gate? Thank you

Yes, you will have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security. There is no Precheck in Terminal 5 since none of the airlines that use Terminal 5 are precheck participants. Austrian won't know if you are in the airport or not.

My mother is travelling to Mumbai, India from Raleigh,NC via Raleigh >ORD> Mumbai. I booked her tickets together with American Airlines and Etihad. Her flight lands on Terminal 3 and the next connection is from terminal 5. Will she have to take the ATS and go through security again? I read somewhere that American airline sometimes offloads passengers at terminal 5 itself and then tows the empty plane to terminal 3. Can someone please confirm this? It's my mothers first international journey and she's quite nervous. Thanks

Yes, she will have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security. American only uses Terminal 5 for International arrivals, of which RDU is not one.

Thank you for your prompt reply!

  • 35 min enough? DAY->ORD->SLC

Hello, I'm going from DAY to SLC, with connection in ORD. I'm flying AA. Is 35 minute enough time to make the connection? Thanks.

Yes, that is enough time. It clearly leaves no time to spare if the flight from Dayton is delayed.

  • T3 to T5 - 3hours?

Our flight in from MAD was changed and we now have a 3 hour layover before our flight on AA to SFO. Two different itineraries, so a bit more of a PITA for us. Will we be okay? Or are we going to have to bust our asses to get there? I guess we'll have to get our luggage and re-check it? Me, wife, 2 y.o. twins.

You have the terminals reversed. You will arrive in T5 and depart from T3. You should have enough time.

  • 2 Hour Connection (VIE - ORD on AU ORD - TPA on AA) Doable w/ Glo Entr

Hi Zap, I have a similar connection. I arrive terminal 5 on Austrian, have a 2 hour layover and depart out of terminal 3 on American. Each trip is on a separate ticket. Is 2 hours okay with Gloval entry and luggage recheck?

With Global Entry you have a chance but you leave no time to spare. I personally would want more time with checked baggage, even with Global Entry.

  • Is 1 hr 12 min enough to make a connection?

I have a flight leaving Boston at 4:50pm, arriving in Chicago. I have 1 hr 12 min to make my connecting flight to Austin, TX. Both flights are on United. Is this enough time to make a connection? Google flights does not mention United being frequently delayed and I'll be leaving in the fall so winter storms (hopefully) won't be a problem.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

I am flying from Minneapolis to Delhi via Chicago ORD. Will land in ORD on Terminal 2 & have to catch up Air India from Terminal 5. Will 2 hrs be sufficient to make this connection?

Are the tickets purchased on one reservation or two separate reservations? Do you have checked bags?

I have the same case I will be traveling from Denver to Delhi with Stop at ORD chicago for 2 hours ...do I need to recheck my baggage and take boarding passes at Chicago ? Mine will be a single ticket from DEN to DLI

Hello there I am going to the US next year to visit my friend and never flown from Chicago before, my plane arrives at T5 and have to get another plane at T2 to MBS . Can you tell me please what I need to do once I'm at T5 and do I need to hang on to my luggage to T2 many thanks Ms Fricker

You will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk immediately after, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 2 and go through security.

It's on one ticket. Will have check-in baggage.

  • Getting from terminal 2 to terminal 1

I have an hour 15 min layover. Can I get to terminal 1 in enough time to make my flight?

Yes, there is a walkway connecting T2 and T1 inside security. You have plenty of time.

Thank you!If my flight comes into F15 & my connection is at C26, do you recommend taking the United Shuttle instead of walking?

as long as you are a fast walker I pretty much never recommend the shuttle. It doesn't run frequently.

Thank you for all the info. I'm definitely not a slow walker. Think I'll be fine. My connecting flight this week has been taking off out of the B gates. Hope next week it's the same.

We are flying from Columbus OH to Chicago with a layover time of 1 hour 15 minutes. Is that enough time to catch our flight to Alaska? All travel is on United Airlines.

Yes, that is enough time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All domestic United gates are connected inside security.

Flying United to ORD from CMH, connecting with LOT to Warsaw. Arrival 7:58pm on 6/12 - depart 9:25pm.....is that gonna work?

Yes, that should be just about enough time. If both tickets are on the same reservation you just take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security.

  • Edinburgh to Vegas with 1h 40 min stopover

Flying in and out with United. In at terminal 5 and out terminal 1. What is the procedure with luggage if on a straight through ticket? At terminal 1 will we need to go through security again? Is 1 hour and 40 mins doable to make connecting flight as seems tight to me

Yes, in Terminal 5 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security. Even though this is a legal connection, you realistically will only make it if your flight from Edinburgh is early or your flight to Vegas is delayed.

Thanks for the reply. Just hope that flight arrives early and not too much of a hold up at immigration.

Hi Zap, I have a similar connection. I arrive terminal 5 on Austrian, have a 2 hour layover and depart out of terminal 3 on American. Each trip is on a separate ticket. Is 2 hours okay?

ScottF, since you have 2 separate reservations I don't think that is enough time. Maybe it would be possible without checked bags if everything went perfectly.

Flying in on United from Knoxville to San Diego with a 40 minute layover in ORD with carry-on only. Is this possible? Thanks!

Yes, it is possible. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1. They are connected by a walkway inside security.

  • LAX to ORD then to MAD on 6/8 with carry on luggage.

Traveling with AA airline from LAX to ORD (it is in T3); 4 hours later depart from ORD to MAD (Iberia airline depart also at T3) with only carry on bag and already print out boarding pass. Can I just walk to the gate and check-in at Iberia desk? Or do I have to go to "departure" desk again and re-enter to gate? thanks...

Yes, you can go straight to your departure gate. If everything is on the same reservation then AA will be able to issue both boarding passes in LAX.

It's different reservation, two separate booking...that's why I am not sure...should be the same right? Just go to the gate for international departure?

Yes, if you already have your boarding pass you can still go directly to your boarding gate. Even if you don't they should be able to issue it at the gate in Chicago.

    Thank you soooooo much!

  • ENVOY AIR AS AMERICAN EAGLE to American Airlines transfer questions
    Jun 7, 2016

If I fly from Des Moines, IA to Ohare and then on to Tampa, FL I have to change planes at Ohare and then the reverse on the return trip. The first flights on both trips are on American Airlines via ENVOY AIR AS AMERICAN EAGLE and the second flights of both trips are on American Airlines. How far do I have to travel to change planes at Ohare and do I have to go through security at Ohare?

You do not have to go through security at O'Hare. All you have to do both ways is just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.
