We're flying to Rome from LAS on BA. First leg lands at Terminal 3 and second leg leaves from Terminal 5. We have 1:35 between flights. Do we have to go through security again and will there be enough time?

You will have enough time but you will have to hurry. You take the ATS train one stop to T5 and then go through security as the ATS runs outside security. Your first flight will be operated by American.

  • Enough time for my connection? (55mins)

I will travel from Costa Rica to Houston. After Houston (UA1501), I have a connection from ORD to Brussels (UA972).I will only have about 55 minutes in Chicago to catch my flight to Brussels. Will this be enough?

If your first flight is on time, you can make it. You will both arrive and depart in Terminal 1 in ORD and you won't have to go through any security or checks when you make your connection.

  • Getting between T2 & T3 - short layover

Hi. Flying in to T2 at 7:26 pm on United Express, and out of T3 at 8:20 pm on American. Doable?

Yes, T2 and T3 are connected beyond security so you can just walk. Hurry, especially if you have a gate-check bag and have to wait for it.

I will arrive from Vancouver 5:41 pm Westjet and transfer to United flight leaving 7:40 pm. Will I have enough time to make this flight and clear all hurdles?

There aren't many hurdles as you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver. Check where your United flight will depart from - if it's a United Express flight leaving from an E or F gate, then you can easily walk from T3 where Westjet will arrive to T2. If you're leaving from B or C, then you can either walk all the way from T3 to T1 inside the secure area or you can take the ATS train, but if you do that, you will have to go back through security in T1. If you have checked baggage Westjet will not transfer to United, so you'll have to claim in T3 and take it on the ATS to T1 and re-check it. Regardless of what you have to do, I think you have enough time.

  • Enough connecting time?

I will arrive from Berlin (TXL) to ORD and then fly to LAX (all on one ticket). Arrival time: 12.10 p.m.., connecting flight departs 1.35 p.m. Both airlines are in "oneworld" (airberlin and AA) My 3 questions are: Do I have to go through all the customs and securities to get to my connecting flight? Is it enough time to catch the connecting flight? Do I have to pick up my checked baggage and re-check it? Thanks!

Yes, you will go through immigration in Terminal 5, then re-check your bags there, then take the ATS train to Terminal 3 and go back through security. That is a really tight connection to do all of that, but it is possible. The good thing is that if you miss your connection American has many flights from ORD to LAX that you can be rebooked on.

Thanks for your reply! I contacted airberlin and they told me that my baggage would be automatically checked through to LAX... Are they wrong? And: They told me that it would be enough time and that AA would wait until we board the plane, since we are alrealdy checked in (?) I don't know what to believe right now...

Yes, it will be checked through to LAX, but you still have to claim it in immigration, walk through customs, and then re-check it at the AA recheck desk in T5. You have to do this any time you enter the US. AA is unlikely to wait very long for you as they have many ORD-LAX flights and the cost of holding the plane for you would likely exceed the cost of putting you on a later flight if you're late.

  • Terminal Transfer

We arrive in terminal 2 at 2:40pm and depart from terminal 5 at 4pm. Is this enought time for the transfer? Will we have to go through check-in, security, or baggage claim in the process? Thanks!

I should clarify, we transfer from United to Austrian Airlines.

If your United and Austrian flights were bought on the same reservation, United will be able to check your bag through to your Austrian flight. All you have to do is take the ATS train to Terminal 5 and go through security. You should have enough time.

I will arrive on United in Terminal One and need to get to Terminal Five for an international flight on Austrian Airlines. I also need a wheelchair. Will someone be able to assist me in getting from T1 to T5?

Request wheelchair service from United. They will take you where you need to go.

I am arriving to ORD from Hong Kong at 2pm (terminal 5) and rather than wait 8 hours to get on my next flight (to MSP) I have booked a one-way ticket with a different airline for 5pm at terminal 2. Once I clear customs I am able to take my luggage with me to Terminal 2 and check in with the new airline correct? If not, then i just wasted a bit of money! :) Thanks.

Yes, you can claim your baggage in immigration and take it to T2 yourself and re-check it.

Thank you for your quick reply!

Do I need to clear security going from K to L?

Concourses K & L at ORD Airport are right next to each other - no security check needed.

Hi Flying to Toronto via ORD, I assume we will clear US border control in Dublin, so we should have a clear run when we land, to our connecting flight. Will our bags get checked all the way through to Canada?

Yes, your bags will be checked straight through to Canada. However if your DUB-ORD flight is on Aer Lingus you will have to take the ATS train from Terminal 5 to your next terminal and go back through security.

    Thanks, flying with American Airlines

On AA1194 from Orlando Arr 17:45 then on IB4194 (T3) leaving 18:20. Will there be enough time to make connection? Can you please confirm that baggage will be transferred onto the flight please and what terminal etc? Many thanks Many thanks

Yes, your baggage will be checked through to your Iberia flight. If your Orlando flight is on time then you will barely have enough time. Also, check the operating carrier of your flight, I believe Iberia 4194 is a code-share flight actually operated by American. If you miss your connection you'll probably get sent to Manchester on a later flight via London.

  • Mexico to ORD to Canada

Am arriving at O'Hara about 6:20pm from Mexico then taking connecting flight to Canada. Have barely an hour between flights. Don't have terminal information yet but think will be arriving in T5 and have to get to T1. Do we have to go through customs btwn flights or will bags automatically be forwarded through?

You will have to go through US immigration, re-check your bags, take the ATS to a different terminal, and then go back through security. I don't think that "barely an hour" is enough time to do all that. I would try to change your ticket (unless there's an earlier flight from Mexico, plan on spending the night in Chicago or maybe connecting somewhere else).

Thanks but seems a bit odd since it was UA who did the booking for us. Any idea if UA will put us up in hotel if we miss the connection, after all they did the booking. No other earlier UA flights available from Mexico, and no later fights from ORD to destination. Doesn't look good.

It depends on the reason for the missed connection if UA would pay for the hotel or not. You could get lucky and your first flight might be early or second flight might be delayed. Also, immigration shouldn't be too crowded after 6 as most of the other international flights arrive before then.

arriving on Apr 29 term 2 leaving in term1 .Have about 55 min .enough time Have walking diff.

On arrival at ORD, look for the sign for the ATS shuttle train, which runs every few minutes between Terminal 5's ATS level the and domestic terminals 1, 2 & 3 - but will require going through security check at connecting terminal 1.

momar's advice is 100% incorrect - you DO NOT have to take the ATS from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 or go through security again. You can walk between the two within the sterile area. However, you may want to request wheelchair service from your airline if you have difficulty walking because it can be kind of along walk.

I´ll arrive with SAS to terminal 5 next Thursday evening and have to be on another flight (American Airlines) from terminal 1 h 40 minutes later. Will it be short time or will I have to stress there? Does it usally take long time goingt through security and have the bags?

As an international arrival at ORD, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag, then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the train to your connecting terminal. The ATS train runs in the non-sterile part of the terminals - requiring security check before proceeding to connecting gate. Note that Terminal 3 has Concourses G, H, K & L with corresponding gates (i.e., gate G19). Count on at least an hour for customs clearance procedures. You have enough time.
