  • 2 hours of transit time is it enough?
    Jun 18, 2012
    12
i would be arriving at ORD by AI 127 at 0725 hrs at terminal 5. I need to take a connecting flight (AA 4073) departure at termianl 3 at 0925 hrs. Will 2 hours of transit time enough to make it to terminal 3? How long would be the queue for immigration check at terminal 5 at that 0725 in the morning? How much time does it take to clear the immigration, collect baggage, collect boarding pass for connecting flight AA at terminal 5? After collecting the baggage and boarding pass should i take the ATS to reach terminal 3?

Two hours transfer time at ORD will be sufficient, even if your immigration /customs clearance process will take an hour (easily possible). Note that after exiting Federal Inspection & luggage re-check areas, proceed up one level at T5 to the Transit System and take the AS train, running every few minutes, to your connecting Terminal 3. Note that T3 has concourses G, H, K & L with corresponding gates. Your ticket and the overhead screens in the Terminals will indicate your connecting gate number. Caution: Do make sure that Alitalia is transferring your bags to Aerican airlines - not all airlines do.

AI 127 is an Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago, not Alitalia. Offcourse, I agree your comment on transferring bags does hold weight. Now, can anyone advice what if the bag transfer is not by the airline (here AI). What is the best course to move to T3. I am seeking this information for a visit scheduled by same flight arriving ORD on 11th July. Thanks and regards.

the bag transfer would not be done by the airliine AI. In my case i need to collect the baggage and check-in at the AA counter at the same terminal 5.

I have should have added this. The connecting flight is AA 4089 sch dep at 1:35 pm. Yes, the travelers are edlerly couple.

Thanks krishna g for ur reply. So after customs and immigration clearance of the baggage, the passengers would move on to check in at AA counter in the same terminal (T5) .. thereafter they could take transit train to T3 .. is this so even if the tkt is from AI for the final destination (i.e. including the AA leg) ..

yes it is. u r right.

    Thanks once again.

AI 127 lands at 10:15 am. Are you sure it is 7:25am??

yes. my journey is in aug. and AI 127 is scheduled to arrive ORD at 725 a.m.

AI has rescheduled on account of ongoing unrest .. at present they have released curtailed schedules only until 31st July for AI 127 .. it combines two routes to one - AI 127 instead of flying direct fr DEL to ORD it is now combined with AI 121 and operates in two legs DEL-FRA & FRA to ORD .. the same flight operates for both legs thereby extending the total duration by about 3 hours .. unless they regularize the schedules to as original (as in early May) the scheduled arrival is not likely to be 7:25 am .. as per current schedule which is effective till 31st July the arrival at ORD is at 10:15 am .. you may keep a watch on the updates for august at this website http://www.airindia.com/SBCMS/Webpages/reschedule-flights.aspx .. if the passengers are going further to ORD (which will be from either of T1/2/3 terminal) it is advised that they ensure there is at least 2 hours plus beyond 10:15 am for transit with other federal clearance and recheck in .. we have rescheduled our AA connection originally at 11:45 am to 1:35 pm now for this reason ..

dear avr@in.after your travel please let me know about the time it took for you to get to ur connecting flight.

    yeah certainly .. regards

  • Secuirity check?

Arrive on American in T1. Want to spend our 5 hour layover at the Delta Sky Club in T2. Then we will return to T1 for our international flight. As we are on connecting flights, will we need to allow time for security screening since we are going between terminals?

At ORD you have two choices to get from/to T2 to T1: (a) you can take the pedestrian tunnel and go through security check before proceeding to secured area; or (b) At T2, the secured area of the Departures level, has, right after you walk from gate F8 past gate F1, at right end a connector to T1. At T1 you will arrive again in the secured area, where you should proceed to closeby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left to gate C15.

  • Shuttle from T2 - E to T1-C?
    Jun 7, 2012
    1
I read somewhere there is a shuttle from Term 2, around gate E3 that leaves every few minutes to Term 1, Gate C8. Is this correct?

At ORD Terminal 2, the secured area of the Departures level, has, right after you walk from gate F8 past gate F1, at right end a connector to T1. At T1 you will arrive again in the secured area, where you should proceed to closeby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left towards gate C15. You can also use the ATS train, which comes around every few mins.

  • Transfer time between terminal 5&3

I will be reaching by AI127 @7.25 a.m. on T-5 andhas to catch flt.#AA4220 FROM T-3 @10.00A.M. Is this time sufficient for immigration, luggage collection,& check in @T-3 AND how to proceed?

    1. You have plenty of time. 2. At ORD, as an international arrival at T5 you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes - make sure Alitalia transfers bags to American airlines - not all airlines do). 3. After exiting the Federal Inspection and luggage re-check areas, proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System's free TSA train to T3. T3 has Concourses G, H, K & L with corresponding gates. The overhead screens will show you airline, gate & arrival time. Signs will guide you to your departing gate.

Coming in on Delta from Grand Rapids Mich to Us Airway and on to Israel through Philly. How long will it take me to find the US Air gate

At ORD, both Delta & US Airways use Terminal 2 with has Concourses E & F: Concourse E has gates E1A-E15; Concourse F has gates F1-F14, and on lower level gates F11A, B & C. Look at overhead screens on arrival at ORD to find your connecting gate; then follow signs.

  • Terminal 3 to 5

Can we get from terminal 3 to 5 in 60 minutes? How do we do this?

At ORD, Between T5's ATS level and the domestic terminals 1, 2 & 3, the ATS shuttle train runs every few minutes - it makes its loop run counter clockwise (T1 is the last stop) - the full loop takes at least 30 mins. You have enough time. When arriving at ORD, simply follow signs to the ATS Train.

  • Is there a shortcut from T2 E gates to T1 C gates?

    Is there a shortcut from T2 E gates to T1 C gates?

Yes: On arrival at ORD from E-gates, walk towards the front of the E gate area, cross the Mezzanine level (both E & F are on this level) to the other side for the F gates. Then proceed as follows: the secured area of the Departures level, has, right after you walk from gate F8 past gate F1, at right end a connector to T1. At T1 you will arrive again in the secured area, where you should proceed to closeby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left to gate C15.

  • Terminal 1 to terminal 2 in 51 minutes ?
    May 28, 2012

We have connecting flights arriving at terminal # 1 and leaving from terminal # 2 with only 51 minutes. This is on a Saturday morning arriving at 8 am. 2 middle aged adults who can walk OK. Is this enough time? I am not familiar with ORD. Tell me how to best make it from Term. 1 to Term 2 . thanks

I forgot to mention on the post above, both flights are domestic. Arriving from Atlanta departing for Rapid City

At ORD you can take the ATS shuttle train between Terminal 1 (B & C gates) & Terminal 2 (E & F gates) - or you can take the pedestrian tunnel connecting both terminals, in which case you need to go through security check again. You have enough time.

Thanks !!! So if I take the tunnel I have to do the TSA hassle, But if I use the shuttle I dont, correct ? Do your reference to the gates at each terminal mean this is where the shuttle comes to ?

  • Change Terminal + Airline
    May 24, 2012

I have 2 hours to change terminals and airline (arriving with Swiss @T5, need to connect to United @T1). Is two hours enough to get through immigration & customs + change the terminal and airline? Also will I need to check in again @T1?

    1. Make sure that Swiss is transferring bags at ORD to United (not all Airlines transfer, in which case you would need to take your bag and check it in at T1. 2. Count in an hour for going through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bag. 3. Thereafter, proceed up one level up to the Airport Transit System where you can easily connect to T1 via the free ATS shuttle train running every few minutes - T1 is the last stop - taking about 15 mins. At T1 you will arrive again in the secured area, where you should proceed (depending on your departure gate) to closeby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left to gate C15.

We will be arriving at Ohare on a domestic flight at 7:05 A.M. and will be getting on a connecting flight to Vancouver Canada at 8:05. Do we go through customs before bording our Vancouver flight and where would we do that?

Only international arrivals in the U.S., other than from certain Canadian & Caribbean airports - Vancouver being one of them - need to go through customs clearance. Your arrival & departure at ORD depends on the airlines you take. Open www.ifly.com/ord and click on the Quick Links /Terminal Map. Below the map are terminal details & how to connect. Under "Flights" in the top row click on Airlines Served. Your ticket and the overhead screen on arrival at ORD will show you your flight number and gate.

  • quickest route T5 to T1?
    May 17, 2012

Is the shuttle the quickest route between the international terminal and the United Terminal (Terminal 1, I think?), or is there a walking route that might be faster?

    1. As an international arrival, and unless you have gone through US customs clearance by participating airports in Canada and the Caribbean, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes)- count on 35-50 mins. After exiting the Federal Inspection and luggage re-check areas, proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System where you can easily connect to Terminal 1 domestic flights. A free ATS shuttle train running every few minutes can take you there. There is you other choice for you.

With 2 small children is 1 hr 45 mins enough time to change flights with a connecting flight?

First of all - you have enough time for transfer, even with small children. Second, between T5's ATS level and domestic terminal 2 runs the shuttle train every few mins, taking at most 15 mins. HOWEVER, unless you have gone through US customs clearance by participating airports in Canada and the Caribbean, you need, as international arrival, to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes). This can take anywhere from 35-60 mins.
