  • will 85 minutes be enough

I will arrive at terminal 5 with British airways at 6..45 pm and depart from terminal 3 with American airlines at 8.10 pm. Will there be enough time? Do I have to pick up my lugage at terminal 5? Can I check it in at terminal 5 or do I have to do that at terminal 3. Do I have to go to AA check in disk at terminal 3? Do I have to go security at terminal 3? What hapens if I miss my flight?

    1. Find out from British if they will transfer your bags to your American flight. If not, you need, after customs clearance, take your bag and check it in at T3's AA counter at the departures level. 2. Upon arrival at O'Hare Airport, at T5, you need to go through passport check, pick up bags and go through customs clearance. After exiting the Federal Inspection and luggage re-check areas, proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS train, running every few mins) where you can easily connect to T3 for domestic flights. 3. Either way you need to go through security check at T3, before proceeding to your gate. T3 has Concourses (with corresponding gates) G, H, K & L - American most likely uses gates L1-10.

British Airways will check your bag through to American as long as you bought your tickets on the same reservation. You will drop your bags with American in the basement of T5 and then go upstairs and take the ATS train to Terminal 3. American uses almost all gates in T3, not just L as sadec suggests.

  • Security going from T1-T5

Quick question, I have to make the change from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 in 2.5 hours. I know about taking the ATS from T1 to T5, but once I get to T5, do I have to go through security again or am I already still "on the other side" so to speak having gone through it at my previous airport? Thank you so much!

Yes, you have to go through security again, the ATS runs near the curbside in the "non-sterile" part of the terminal.

    Thanks, ZAP!

  • getting to the Hilton bar?

I have a friend with a layover tomorrow evening; we want to meet up at the Hilton sports bar. He is arriving in terminal 3 and i'm coming from the CTA blue line. Can anyone help with directions so we don't waste time being lost? :)

The Hilton is within walking distance of domestic terminals T1, 2 & 3. For more information open http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/illinois/hilton-chicago-ohare-airport-CHIOHHH/index.html

  • Terminal 5 (International) to Terminal 3

My parents are arriving via Iberia on Terminal 5 and Fly out on Domestic American Airlines (Terminal 3). Is the place where they retrieve the bags before Immigrations/Customs easy to find/close to Immigrations/same floor? Once done with Customs, where do they drop the bags for the next domestic flight and is it true that they can't drop them as they are not same airline (I am under the impression bags fly to final destination). I understand they need to go one floor up and get a shuttle to get to Terminal 3? Do they arriveat the correct floor for departures on Terminal 3? Do they go through Secutity check? Thanks!

    1. You need to find out from Iberia whether they will transfer bags to the American Airline connecting flight - not all airlines do - in which case your parents would need, after customs clearance, take their bags along to Terminal 3, and check them in at the Departures level at the AA counter. On arrival at ORD, follow other passengers as they need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs clearance and (if Iberia transfers bag) - re-check-in bags where indicated. 2. After exiting the Federal Inspection and luggage re-check areas, proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System and take the ATS shuttle train connecting to Terminal 3. At T3 they may have to go through security check before proceeding, on the Departures level, to their Concourse & gate. Concourses G,H,K&L surround the Rotunda - most likely American will use Concourse L with gates L1-10.

Iberia should check your bags through on the American flight assuming they were bought on the same reservation since Iberia and American are codeshare partners in OneWorld. They should be able to drop their bags after collection and customs in T5 for their AA flight, so they'll just have to take the ATS from T5 to T3 which is just one stop. Yes, they will have to go through security again in T3. The ATS stop is on the departure level, but you have to go up and over the access road, to get to the actual departure level. Regardless, the departure level is easy to find from the T3 ATS stop.

  • Connection time

Hi there, I'm arriving from ORF (norfolk) and have a connecting flight to make on United from ORD to YVR (Vancouver Canada) and only have 1 hr 35 min to make the connection. Will that be enough time?

At ORD, United uses Terminals 1, 2 & 5 (T5 is for United international arrivals only). T1 has Concourse B with gates B1-22 & C with gates C1-32; T2 has Concourse E with gates E1A-15 and Concourse F with gates F1-14 & n its lower level gates F11A, B & C. The ATS shuttle train runs every few minutes between Terminal 5's and domestic terminals 1, 2 & 3. Look on arrival at overhead screen to find your connecting flight & gate number. You have enough time. Alternatively to get from T2 to T1: Note that all gate areas of all terminals are not connected, but the secured area, which is the upper level (Departures) has, right after you walk from gate F8 past gate F1, at right end a connector to Terminal 1, where you will arrive again in the secured area, and where you should proceed to nearby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left to gate C15.

thnov, please stop leaving boilerplate responses - they aren't helpful. You can walk between your ORF flight and YVR flight without having to go through security. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1. They are connected. Worst case walk time is about 20 minutes, so 1hr 35 minutes is plenty of time.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful answer :)

  • Connecting terminal 2 to terminal 1

I have 47 minutes to connect from T2 to T2 , I am an older gentleman, will I be able to do this?

You arrive at ORD, Terminal 2, either at Concourse E (gates E1A-E15), or Concourse F (gates F1-14 & or on lower level of concourse gates F11A, B & C) From there, you have two options to get to Terminal (Concourse B, gates B1-22; Concourse C, gates C1-31: (1) walk: From Terminals 2 to 1 -Note that all gate areas of all terminals are not connected, but the secured area, which is the upper level (Departures) has, right after you walk from gate F8 past gate F1, at right end a connector to Terminal 1, where you will arrive again in the secured area, and where you should proceed to nearby gate B6, walk past gate B8 (at right), take walkway to C gates, turn left to gate C15. (2) take the ATS shuttle train (follow signs) staring at T5 and serving T1, T2, & T3, running every few mins.

He just said his connection is within T2! Why are you posting all this copy+paste gobbledygook tunov that doesn't apply to this situation? Terminal 2 is small and only really has 1 concourse (E and F are really just 2 branches of the same concourse), you can easily get between any of the two gates within 47 minutes.

Im flying to Washington DC from Singapore via Hong Kong and O'Hare, arriving O'Hare at 11:20am and departing for Washington Dulles at 1:00pm. Do i have enough time to hop on my domestic flight?

On arrival at ORD at Terminal 5 (for all international arrivals) you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes), then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the train to your connecting terminal. The ATS shuttle train runs every few minutes between Terminal 5's ATS level & the and domestic terminals 1, 2 & 3. The overhead screens on arrival will indicate which terminal, concourse & gate you will depart from (depending on which airline you use). T1 has gates B1-22, and C1-31; T2 has gates E1-E15 & F1-14; T3, with Concourses G, H, K & L has corresponding gates. Your time would suffice if (a) your incoming flight is on time and lines are 'normal'; (b) if your bags will be automatically transferred to your connecting gate (find out) - if not, you would have to re-check-in your bags with the airline heading to Dulles.

Ill be flying from Singapore to Washington DC with connecting flights in Hong Kong and O'Hare. Arriving O'hare T5 connecting to another UA flight at T1. Do i need to claim my checked baggage when reached O'hare and re-check in again or i'll meet my checked baggage in Washington Dulles?

    1. As an international arrival at ORD Airport, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag where indicated; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the train to your connecting Terminal 1. The free shuttle train runs every few minutes.

O'hare ETA 11:20. Departing for IAD at 1:00pm. Do i have enough time?

I don't think you have enough time. you need at least 3-4 hours to get checked and move around if you are lucky enough

I am flying United Air from Mpls to Chicago with 52 minute layover. Will that be enough time to make a Cancun connection?

If arriving and departing via United Airlines, note that United uses Terminals 1, 2 & 5. T1 has B & C gates, T2 has E & F gates and T5 has M gates. On arrival look up at the screens to find your departing flight & gate; then follow signs to the ATS shuttle train running every few mins between the terminals. You have enough time.

Your arrival and departure gates will both be in T1. If your MSP-ORD flight is on-time you will be fine.

Flying from SFO to ORD and connecting to a flight for Brussels with a 56 minute layover..obviously concerned about limited timing to catch the international leg. Arrival and departure terminals listed as T1 on ticket. Although same terminal, do I have to go through security? what if they are same terminal but end up being different concourses? Not checking any bags

Terminal 1 of ORD serves (a) all departures of Nippon Airways ANA & Lufthansa; all domestic flights & international departures of United, and (b) all check-in and baggage claim for United Express. T1 has Concourses B (gates B1-22) & C (gates C1-31) - each of the concourses connects at its center to the other. You have enough time!

If your flight is on-time, then it's an easy connection. You do not have to go through security again. There are only two concourses in Terminal 1 and no two gates in T1 are more than a 5-10 minute walk from each other.

Thanks for the info ZAP and Monov12. Most helpful!

We flying from toronto to ord then connctingflying flight to london heathrow om untied. We will be clearing usa customs in toronto so do we pick up our luggage and re-check or does our luggage go directly to our london flight. We have 2.5 hours bewteen flights.

Your luggage will be checked straight through to London when you go through US customs in Toronto. No need to reclaim and re-check in Chicago. 2.5 hrs should be plenty of time to make your connection.

arriving terminal 3- gate g2b, depart terminal 3- gate k19- do I need to go up one level to depart and if so- how?

If you are an International Arrival at ORD and have not gone through US security check at your original participating Airport (like Canada), you need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and then re-check-in your bag where indicated. The Upper Level serves Departures, leading to Concourse L to the left, the Y-shaped gateway to Concourses K & H in the center and to Concourse G to the left. Signs will guide you. Concourse G has gates G1A-G21, and Concourse K has gates K1-K19.

You just need to walk from G to K. There's signs. It's not very hard. It's all in the same terminal.
