  • Connection time Terminal 5 to Terminal 1

We will be traveling from Madrid, Spain, to Toronto via Chicago next July. Our IB 6275 flight arrives in ORD T5 by 02:00 PM, and our UA 843 flight leaves T1 by 05:30 PM. We have checked bags, and the flights are on different reservations. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. Note that you will take your bags with you on the ATS Train to T1 to re-check them with United and will have to pay a checked bag fee.

    Thank you!!

  • T5 to T3 in 2 hours?
    Apr 7, 2016

I need to book an international flight, arriving in T5 at 11:35 and leaving from T3 at 13:35. This is exactly 2 hours to make my connection. With immigration, customs, baggage re-check, transfer + security lines in T3, is this enough time to make the connection? Do they have express immigration/security lines for people with fast connections? Also, just to make sure -- a transfer from AirBerlin to American Airlines is all one ticket, correct? I.e. if I miss the connection, AA would automatically rebook me? I would purchase both flights as one itinerary. Thank you for your help!!!

That's just enough time if everything goes smoothly. There are no express lines for passengers on connections. If you miss your connection AA will rebook you.

Thank you so much -- this is an enormous help!!

Hallo, ill be arriving from Tokyo Narita to Ohare, and continue to Reagan DCA. Transfer time will be around 2.5 hours, between T5 and T1. Do you think that's enough time, with 1 check-in baggage? Understanding that baggage must be collected in Ohare T5, immigration, clear customs, then move to T1. Thanks for your help.

Yes, that should be enough time. Note that if everything is on the same reservation then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk in T5 right after you clear customs.

Hallo, ill be flying all-nippon from tokyo narita to reagan DC, transfer at ohare. Transit time around 2.5 hours. Do you think that's enough time, with 1 check-in luggage? Arrival from Tokyo is at T5, and departure to Reagan is from T1 i think.

Yes, that should be enough time.

I am booking a flight from Milwaukee to Portland, ME that has a 1hr and 25 min before departing to Portland. We will go from Terminal 2 to 1. There are 9 of us. It is a United flight. Is that sufficient time?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All United and United Express gates at ORD are connected inside security.

I have an internal flight from St. Louis to O'Hare with United arriving terminal 1 to connect with BA to Heathrow terminal 5. I have 3 hours between flights but have to collect and re-check baggage. Am I going to be OK with that ?

As long as the flight from St. Louis is on-time you should be OK. You will take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 to re-check your bags and go back through security.

    THANKS zap

  • AA terminal 3 to Aer Lingus terminal 5 & bag drop cut off time
    Apr 4, 2016

Original flight on AA from TUS to ORD was departing at 10:57am and arriving at 4:32pm. Then taking a flight on Aer Lingus from ORD to DUB at 8:20pm. AA has now changed the flight for TUS to ORD to departing at 12:20pm and arriving at 5:53pm. Is 2 hr-27min. enough time to collect bags from terminal 3 and re-check them in terminal 5? Also do you know what the bag drop cut off time is before an international flight? Thank you!

That should be just enough time if your flight from Tucson is on-time. I believe the cutoff in Terminal 5 is 60 minutes, but really you need more like 90 to check your bags and get through security.

    Thank you!

planning flights from CVG to Manila thru ORD what kind of layover should I plan to change terminals Looking at arriving in terminal 1 from cvg

What airlines are you flying? A United flight from CVG would likely arrive in Terminal 2. Are you planning on purchasing two separate reservations?

most likely United to ORD than Asiana or Korean air. Still searching flights. Some searches had less than 2 hours to catch international flight. This didn't sound long enough for me.

If purchased on the same reservation, 2 hours is possible.

  • 3 hours of layover?

I'll be arriving from Vietnam to O'hare at 1:55 PM in terminal 5. I'll have 3 hours of layovers, with my next flight departing at 4:55 PM in terminal 3. Can I make it? What steps do I have to go through between that time?

There's no nonstops from Vietnam to the US. Where are you stopping first? What airline are you flying to Chicago? Are all your tickets on the same reservation?

Oh sorry about the misinformation. We're going from Vietnam to Minneapolis, and we'll be stopping by Hong Kong and O'hare. Our flight from Chicago is from American Airlines, and they're all on the same reservation

OK, so you will be arriving in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up 2 levels to the ATS Train then take it one stop to Terminal 3, go through security and to your departure gate.

Also, you should have enough time.

We are due to arrive ORD at 12.10pm on a Sunday and due to connect to Delta flight at 3.14pm. Assume we collect baggage, catch ATS and re-book in T2. Will this be enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Reaching ORD from London with Flight AA 91 and need to catch AA 3454

Reaching ORD from London with Flight AA 91 with Scheduled arrival is 8.20 and need to catch AA 3454 from Chicago to Cleveland , flight departs at 9.55. will this be sufficient time .

That is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up 2 levels to the ATS Train, take it one stop to Terminal 3, and go through security and to your departure gate.

  • SGF to ORD to MCO

We have 72 minutes to connect in ORD. We are arriving from SGF and traveling to MCO with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We will obviously have carryon luggage, but our big bags will be checked. Is 72 minutes enough time?

Yes, assuming both tickets are on the same reservation that should be plenty of time.

  • Will i need to go through customs?
    Mar 29, 2016

I will be arriving from Orlando (MCO) on an American Airlines flight terminal 3 and leaving 1h 15m later from terminal 5 for London Heathrow on BA flight. It's all been booked on one transaction through British airways. Is this enought time for the connection and will i have to claim my baggage and re-check it or will it be taken straight to LHR? I've been told i won't have to go through security until I get back to the Uk, is this true? Please help, this is my first time to the US

you will not have to claim your baggage at ORD. It is possible to go from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 without going through security - you have to take a British Airways shuttle bus that does not run terribly regularly. Otherwise you have to take the ATS Train and go through security in T5.

Also, since you asked in the title - there is no US Customs when exiting the US.

    Thanks, this was very helpful.

  • Connecting flights on United Exspress/United

Our flight in is on United Express and flight out is on United. Does anyone know what terminals AND concourses these would be on. Also, where is the walkway between terminals 1 and 2 located - is it between certain concourses?

No need to ask the same question twice.

Sorry but not following your comment on asking same question twice.

ZAP - sorry, I see what you are referring to now. Now sure how that happened. Tried to delete one of the posts but was unable to. Thanks for the reply it was helpful.

  • Transfer time
    Mar 28, 2016

Flying BA5012, 1332hrs (operated by AA), 4 June 2016, from New Orleans to Chicago into T3 at 1600, then BA 294, 1800 hrs) to London Heathrow from T5 at 1600. Will 2 hours be enough time to transfer between terminals? How do things work at Chicago airport for transit passenters? ie how do we get from T3 to T5, will our luggage be tranferred through, do we have to go through customs, security, immigration. There is a later flight to London Heathrow, BA 296 leaving at 2035 - would this be safer and if we change our flights, would this be regarded as a separate reservation? Thanks

Yes, your bags will be transferred. In Chicago you can either take the British Airways shuttle bus to T5 (which runs infrequently but you don't have to go through security again in T5) or you can take the ATS Train and go through security again in T5 (The ATS train runs frequently). Either way you should have enough time.

    Thanks for prompt response. Appreciated

We will be travelling Business Class. Is there a faster track through security or just one line?

Yes, I believe you will get priority security in Terminal 5 should you decide to take the ATS Train.
