Flying in to ORD with American and flying out with United, no checked bags with only 30 minutes between flights. Is 30 minutes enough time to get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2?

It's possible but it leaves no time to spare if the first flight is delayed at all and you will obviously need to be checked in for your United flight before you leave on your American flight.

Do I need to collect my checked baggage on a flight on United from Duluth to United to Las Vegas?

No, your bags will be checked through to Las Vegas in Duluth. All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. all United gates are connected inside security.

Will 1hour and 50 minutes be OK on Sunday November 27 Thanksgiving weekend? Arrive ORD at 7:10 a.m. Have to clear immigration as no pre-clearance in YXU. Thanks

1 hr 50 minutes should be barely enough time considering that will be a very busy day for when you have to go back through security in Terminal 1 (immigration will be empty). Also, note that November is a very long way off so it's likely there will be a schedule change before then.

I'm also flying from YXU to ORD and then connecting to PHX this Sunday with only carry on. I have 2 hours between flights but looking over the maps and stops along the way I'm nervous on timing. United T5 in and United T1 Out. I think it goes like this, get off plane and go to Immigration APC machine, then 1 stop customs and then proceed to train. Take this from T5 to T1, pass through security and head to gate. Any suggestions to speed things along through the airport? Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm the person from London that posted the original question. You should be fine, especially with no checked luggage to wait for. I've done it twice with less than 2 hours for connecting flight. The only concern I had, and the reason for my post, is that I will be flying on the Sunday of American Thanksgiving, which is one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. Did you use the ATC and 1 stop for immigration and customs?

Yes. Only thing that is slow in the morning is security in to T1, but you should be fine. As said, I've done it twice no problem and that was with checked luggage to wait for and check back in. Have a good trip.

Will 2.5 hours be enough to clear Immigration/Customs, family of 3, all with Global Entry?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • How long to check in for International Flight?
    Jan 29, 2016
Hi there. I fly out of ORD at 7:15 pm on a Monday night for Dublin then Amsterdam (Aer Lingus). I have a tight meeting that afternoon north of OHare. How long will I need to check the rental and check in through Terminal 5 on time? Thanks!!

Plan on dropping off your rental car a little before 5.

We are looking at a flight from Vancouver Canada to Newark New Jersey and on to Delhi India. We will only have a 50 minute stop at Chicago O'hare to make our connection and wondering if that gives us enough time to make our connection to Newark. Not sure if we will pre-clear US customs in Vancouver or have to do at Chicago. Thx.

You will preclear US immigration and customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 - time between flights :1 hr and 35 min
    Jan 27, 2016
Hi, My flight gets in at Terminal 1 in ORD at 7:40pm on United, and then my next flight is at 9:15pm from Terminal 5 on Turkish Airlines. Both flights are on the same ticket so I don't have to recheck the bags. Do I need to go through security or is there an internal route to get between the terminal 1 and 5? is hour and 35 minutes enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5. You should have enough time. Security in T5 won't be crowded that late in the evening.

I am traveling from Tucson to Krakow via Ohare. I have 2 separate reservations--one on American from Tucson to Chicago and another from Chicago to Krakow on Lot Airlines. I will need to pick up my checked luggage from my arriving terminal in Ohare and transfer it to the international terminal. Is there a service to help with this, or do I have to carry it myself via the connecting train between the two terminals? I know on the return I can use the re-check service in the international terminal. Thx

You will have to carry it yourself. On the return you will not be able to use the re-check desk in T5 because your bags won't be tagged to Tucson. You will have to take them with you on the ATS Train to the AA Counter in Terminal 3.

Yes, that is enough time if the first flight is on-time.

We had booked a flight arriving in ORD and planned on spending time. Plans fell through and now are looking to go on to okc on a different booking. Will 2 1/2 hours be enough time to get through security and checked in again on a different booking?

That would be just enough time if everything goes smoothly. How much time does your original booking leave you?

We actually are not sure when we should leave. On the day we arrive or the next morning. I know, staying in an airport for 9 12 hours or more sucks, but not making the connection would suck worse, Right?

Guess I should have said in my previous reply, we didn't have a connecting flight for that day. We were going to spend time with a friend who will not be in town (unfortunately) so we have decided to go on to our final destination as it were. We were just concerned that the last plane leaves at 9:15 pm and we didn't arrive until 5:40 and with having to go to customs and then check our luggage for a brand new flight that we might be cutting it a little close timewise.

A 5:40 -> 9:15 PM connection should be fine, even on separate reservations.

  • How to get a motorized cart for short connections
    Jan 25, 2016
We have a 50 minute layover between flights and i'm very concend that (due to weather) it will be even shorter. How can I arrange for a cart transfer to our next gate? There are for of us.

ORD Does not have many carts because the concourses are narrow. If you need wheelchair service you can call your airline. Carts are for the handicapped, not those with short connections.

  • Beijing to St. Louis
    Jan 25, 2016
I'm flying into ORD from Beijing on United. I have a 1hr 34min layover and then I take a connecting flight to St. Louis. All the tickets were bought at the same time. Do you think the layover is long enough? Or should I book a similar flight with a 3 hour layover between flights?

I would book the 3 hours. You'll have to go through security again in Terminal 1 or 2 after you clear customs and re-check your bags, and security at ORD is pretty bad.

  • Enough time
    Jan 25, 2016
A group of us are due to fly into O'Hare at 4:15 from Norfolk. The connecting flight leaves at 4:50 to Madrid, Spain. Is that enough time to get from concourse 3 to 5 and catch our international flight and our luggage make it onboard?

Iberia flights depart from Terminal 3. You don't have to change terminals. You should have just enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Hi, my flight is with AA from Montréal/Canada to Chicago then to NRT/Japan. Do you know If I'll be able to check my baggage in Montréal and pick them up in Narita? The booking was made as a single booking..

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.

I am traveling from Edinburgh to the USA and have a connection in Chicago. Will 1:20 be enough time to get through customs and catch a connecting flight for Wichita, Ks?

That is 10 minutes shorter than the recommended International to Domestic connection time at ORD and 40 minutes shorter than I recommend.
