Hi, I;m travelling manchester uk connecting in chicago and on to vegas with AA we have a connection time of 3hrs is that enough and do we have to change terminals? Thanks
Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 go through security and to your departure gate.
Hi,

I have a flight from Dublin through Aer Lingus that will arrive at 6:15pm this Friday. I will then have to connect through to United at 7:35 pm. Will an hour and 20 minutes be enough time to go from T5 through security to T1? I will have no checked bags.

Thank you.
Yes, that should be enough time. Be sure to check the monitors or united.com on your phone before you get on the ATS Train as your flight to Indianapolis may depart from Terminal 2 (Concourse E or F) - in which case you'll want to get off the ATS and go through security in Terminal 2.
Hi. I am planning an anniversary trip for my parents on Labor Day weekend. Their flights are booked through United Airlines, and they will be departing from Salt Lake City on 9/05/16 with a 1 hr. 39 min. layover in ORD before catching an overnight Aer Lingus flight to London. Is that enough time to make the connection? Or will they have to pick up their luggage and re-check it, as well as waiting in line to go through Security and Customs again before boarding their connecting flight? Also, how should they get from the domestic arrival gate to the international departure gate? Any help, advice or clarification would be appreciated!
There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If they are on the same reservation then they just have to take the ATS Train from Terminal 1 or 2 where they arrive to Terminal 5 where they will depart and then go through security. They have enough time.
Thanks for the information! I just realized that I gave you the wrong departing airline. They are booked on a single ticket through United Airlines from SLC-->ORD, and then United Airlines again from ORD-->LHR. Does that mean that they will arrive in terminal 1 and depart from terminal 1, so they won't need to worry about picking up their luggage, changing terminals or going through security again? It would be very helpful if they arrived and departed in the same terminal without rushing to another part of the airport.

Hello, I am flying from London Heathrow connecting in Chicago OHare for a codeshare flight to Dallas (DFW) - British Airways with American Airlines.

I land in Chicago at 3.05pm (BA1542) on a Friday and departure time of my connecting flight to DFW (BA4446) is at 4.49pm (1h45min connection time).

Is that enough time from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 departure gate, given I have to go through US Immigration, claim my luggage, go through US customs, and recheck my luggage at the recheck desk before hopping on the ATS to Terminal 3?

There are about 4-5 international flight arrivals at T5 around the same time. I am not a US resident, non-European resident, not TSA approved, so no shortcuts.

Also, at what interval are the ATS at Terminal 5? And how long does it take from T5 to T3?

If I miss the connecting flight due to delays in security, immigration, will American Airlines book me on the next flight to DFW?
Thank you
That will be very difficult. The ATS Runs about every 4-6 minutes at that time of day. It's only one stop so once you're on the train it's only like 2 minutes to T3. If you miss your connection AA will book you on the next available flight. They have basically hourly flights from ORD to DFW.
Thanks for your reply ZAP. Do you know if I should contact someone at the airport upon landing (e.g. AA official at the point of rechecking my luggage in) to advise that my connection time is very tight. I was hoping that someone from the airport/AA could help me avoid the long queue at security once I reach T3. I read about that somewhere online, but am not sure if that's possible. Any thoughts on that? Thanks
Usually if it's a short connection time, AA will give you an express ticket. They will hang it on a wall on your way to immigration. With that ticket, the will know that you are in a hurry. It helps with the immigration part as you will go to an express line, however it doesn't help at a security check point as you will have to stay in line with everybody else. Express ticket means your documents will be check in an express line but doesn't mean you can jump the line through security check. You may have to run all the way, but if you miss your flight, AA will find you a new flight. Hope this help.
I am flying United from Shannon Ireland to Seattle with only a 52 minute layover in Chicago. Same airline, same reservation, is that even possible?
Yes, that is possible. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Shannon. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 1.
I am looking for a flight from Montréal (YUL) to Honolulu via ORD with UA express with a connection time of one hour and there is a terminal change. I am hesitant to book as cooection is short. Any opinion?
Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal and arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 and depart from Terminal 1. 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. An hour is enough time.
I have been looking for a flight from DCA-ORD-NRT via AA. I am interested in the flight 153, which has only 45 minutes for connection at ORD. But, both DCA-ORD and ORD-NRT legs bear the same flight number. I think they use different airplanes. Am I safe to say the second leg of flight 153 will not take off until the first leg arrives and I will not miss the trip to NRT? Thanks for your response.
They won't hold the second flight if the first flight is heavily delayed, since you are correct, they are on different aircraft. However, it is an easy connection as all you have to do in ORD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the H/K concourse.
Then, I probably should consider an earlier flight in to ORD, considering it will be in January. You never know what the weather might be then. Thank you.
We are flying Ethiad AMD India via Abu Dhabi to ORD. We need to go to Delta terminal for domestic. We have a seperate ticket ORD to DTW. How can we transfer our bags? Is ATS train allow to take airport carts with checked bags? We will have 8 checked bags and 4 carrier.s (Family of 4). What are other options to transfer luggage from T5 to T2 if ATS train don't allow airport carts with checked bags? Thanks.
either pack a foldable luggage cart in your baggage or each person carry 2 bags.
Hi,
We are coming from Ahmedabad (India) via Abu Dhabi to ORD in Ethiad Airline. We need to go to Delta terminal for domestic. Seperate ticket from ORD to DTW. How can we transfer our bags? Is ATS train allow to take carts with bags? Thanks so much.
You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from Terminal 2. You will have to take your bags with you to re-check in T2. You cannot bring rental carts on the ATS Train. Either pack a foldable luggage cart in your baggage or don't bring more bags than you can carry.
Thanks so much for quick response. We will have 8 checked bags and 4 carrier.s (Family of 4). What are other options since I cannot use airport carts in the ATS train for luggage? Thank you.
As I said, either pack a foldable luggage cart in your baggage or each person carry 2 bags.
Am flying BA Heathrow to O'Hare, Chicago with connecting flight Envoy Air/American Eagle to Grand Rapids with a 1hr 30m layover at O'Hare. I don't know yet what terminals I fly in and out of. Will I have to collect baggage and go through immigration and customs at O'Hare and then re-check baggage, and go through passport control/security again before taking the flight to Grand Rapids or can my baggage be booked straight through? IS 1hr 30 m enough time?
You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, go through security and to your departure gate. That is a very difficult connection.
