  • Connecting Flight, Do I need to go through Security again?
    Dec 3, 2015
I am flying Tuesday from Kansas City to Chicago where I will take a connecting flight from Chicago to Toledo. Once I get off the plane, do I need to go through security again before I can get to my terminal to fly to Toledo? This is my first time flying by myself and I am nervous as nervous can be. With the significant amount of snow that O'Hare received yesterday, could my flight be delayed Tuesday morning?

I also forgot to say that my layover is only 39 minutes. If I have to go through security again, will I miss my connecting flight to Toledo?

You will not have to go through security in Chicago. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All the snow will be melted by Tuesday and they didn't get much snow there anyway. You have enough time as long as your flight from Kansas City is on-time.

Thank you so very much! You have lessen my anxiety by ten-fold. I gladly appreciate it!

I'm trying to contact a passenger who managed to break their phone on the flight. Is it possible to get a contact number for a gate or at the least the terminal if I know which it is? (Terminal 1, concourse B, flight arrives in approximately 30 minutes)

  • snow all day tomorrow--arriviung from Paris United-connect UA to SFO
    Nov 21, 2015
will my 3 hr layover be enough>?how to estimate if Ohare will delay> thanks?1

You will probably be OK. Your flight from Paris will probably not be affected. It's more likely that your flight to San Francisco will be impacted. Also, Chicago regularly deals with snow and the amount of snow that Chicago will be getting is not extraordinary.

    Thx so much!!

I am flying from the UK to St Louis and have never changed planes before. I am flying with American Airlines and all tickets bought together. Do I have to clear security collect my luggage and then re check luggage in for onward flight or just clear security and luggage will be automatically transferred to St Louis flight ??

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk immediately after, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Transit between international flights
    Nov 19, 2015
Hello, I fly from Ottawa (Canada) to Paris (France) through Chicago, with checked luggage, and only one hour to make the connection (from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1). I am from a visa-waiver country (with ESTA). Do I need to pick the luggage and re-check it (the two flights were bought together, though the company is not the same one : Air Canada / United Airlines) ? and to go through the security again ? Will one hour be enough, or should I rather change the tickets ?

sorry, not from Ottawa but from Montreal (still in Canada, doesn't change much).

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if the flight from Montreal is on-time. Terminal 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway.

Thank you very much for this information !

  • Security lines can be very long
    Nov 18, 2015
After leaving Terminal 5, we missed our connecting flight even though we had 40 minutes. The security line at terminal 2 was extremely long and slow moving, Even though we managed to get to the head of the line, we still had to walk (fast) another 10 minutes to our gate. I suggest that you have a minimum 2 hour layover in O'Hare and 3 is probably better, especially if you are dealing with an international flight. We had a 3 hour layover for our outbound flight and it was just about enough time, due to the long slow moving security lines

Yes, the TSA at ORD (and Chicago Midway for that matter) has had significant staffing issues for the last several months. United, American, and Southwest are not happy with them.

  • Land in T1 buy popcorn get to T5 and board my next flight within 2hrs
    Nov 17, 2015
Hi, will it be possible to land with my UA flight in T1, buy my beloved Garrett's Mix, travel to T5 get through security and board my connecting flight roughly 2hrs later? I'm a business traveller so I assume I'll get the chance to use priority lanes, don't I?

    That should be enough time.

  • Time.
    Nov 16, 2015
I land at terminal 2 and go to terminal 5. Do i have to go back through security? I am going abroad but only have an hour layover. Is that enough time?

also, do i have to recheck bags or anything? its united airlines to austrian airlines

If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags. However, you will have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 and go through security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • terminal 1 to terminal 5 time
    Nov 16, 2015
I land at United 2:10 pm and leave on a 4:00 pm Aer Lingus flight (terminal 5) is this enough time if bags are checked through?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. it will take 10-15 minutes to get to T5 on the ATS Train and then 15-30 to get through security.

  • national connection
    Nov 16, 2015
I have a connection flight in Chicago of 56 minutes in a flight coming from Minneapolis going to Fayetteville arkansas (XNA). The company is United. Would that be enought time to make it? are they on the same terminal? Thank you

You will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2 (likely 1) and depart from Terminal 2. All United and United Express gates at ORD are connected inside security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • ORD-MAD 57min Connection
    Nov 15, 2015
I am flying in domestically to ORD on AA and have a 57 minute layover before my flight to MAD on Iberia. Does anyone think this is enough time to transfer?

That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.

  • connection time
    Nov 26, 2015
I have a flight from LAX to ORD with a 40 minute layover to connect to my flight to YYZ on December 19th. Will my luggage make it? Will I?

Assuming both tickets are on the same reservation and your first flight is on-time that should be just about enough time.

By "just about enough time" do you mean not enough time? As in, I was "just about asleep," meaning not quite. Or is it enough time? AA has been quite unhelpful in my inquiries.

I mean if everything goes perfectly you'll be walking up to the departure gate 5-10 minutes before they close the door. If your first flight is delayed more than 5-10 minutes, you'll probably miss the connection.

Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate it. If I make the flight, what are the chances that my baggage will?

    It's not impossible.

Hi. Im travelling from Toronto to Tokyo with a transit at ord with air Canada then Japan airline. I have to go from terminal 2 to 3. • International Connection ORD
    Nov 12, 2015
I will be traveling from STL to Tokyo with a connection in ORD. Is 1hr 15min enough time for the outbound flight? The inbound flight is 1hr. 50min. Is this enough time for returning through customs, rechecking, etc.? Thanks much!

Yes, both connections should be sufficient as long as all flights are on the same reservation.

  • Baggage Transfer during Flight Conenctions
    Nov 11, 2015
Hi, My family will be travelling by Qatar to Chicago and has connecting United Airlines flight to St Louis. PNR is same for both the tickets. My question is should they claim the baggage at Chicago and checkin to UA? If yes, can they do the check in at International Terminal itself. Good Day.

Yes, if both tickets are on the same reservation your bags wil be tagged through to STL but they will have to claim them in Chicago to go through US Customs. They can then re-check them immediately after customs at the re-check desk in Terminal 5, then take the ATS Train to their departure terminal and go through security.

  • Flying With a Pet
    Nov 10, 2015
I will be flying from Charleston, SC to Las Vegas with a 1.5 hour layover in Chicago. The flight from Charleston (UA 4461) lands in O'hare @ Terminal 2 and the flight to Vegas departs from Terminal 1 @ 9:30. Would this give me enough time to take my dog to the new indoor pet relief room in Terminal 3, or should I stick to wee pads in the bathroom if necessary?

Flight number from Chicago to Las Vegas is UA 899.

You could probably make it to the Indoor pet relief area if your flight from Charleston arrives on-time. But I'd bring the wee pads in case of a delay.

  • EWR-ORD, then ORD-LHR, 50 mins connection
    Nov 8, 2015
Hello, I am flying from New York to Chicago ORD arriving 21.10 then connecting ORD to London Heathrow at 22.00. both flights are British Airways (although operated by other airlines?). Is 50 minutes enough time to connect?

Both flights will be operated by American Airlines. ALl you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both on the H/K concourse of Terminal 3. You have enough time if your flight from New York is on-time.
