United just changed my reservation that now gives me a 90 minute layover on a flight from Vancouver, BC to ORD, connecting to Norfolk, VA. Is 90 minutes sufficient time to clear customs and make the connecting flight?
You will go through US pre clearance in Vancouver, meaning that you will only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Chicago. You have more than enough time.
Thanks so much Andy, really appreciate your quick response and outstanding support!
Hi - a friend is flying from Copenhagen -> Chicago -> Sacramento.
At Ohare Chicago he has to travel from Terminal 5 (international terminal) to Terminal 1.
change the terminal (I think it is from 5 to 1). He has in total 2 hours.
Question - does he have to do immigration in Chicago? how much time approximately it takes to change the terminal and what is the best way of doing it, bus or train or taxi?
Yes in Chicago he will go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US customs, re-check his bags at the recheck desk then take the ATS train to Terminal 1 then go through security and to the departure gate. He has just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
And departing out of terminal 5. Can I go to terminal 5 without going through security at Chicago? I see there is a train
The Train runs outside security. What airlines are you flying?
Coming in on American. Leaving on British airways to go to London. Will luggage need retrieved too?
Ok, in that case British Airways does run a shuttle inside security from the K concourse of T3 to T5 but it only operates once or twice for each BA flight. You don't have to do anything with your bags in Chicago if both flights are on the same reservation.
Note that the American Airlines - British Airways shuttle hasn't been running most of this summer. BA claims the bus has been broken down. This means departing the terminal, taking the regular train and going back through security at the international terminal, which is a mess and has no priority line. I've done it twice this summer and it has not been a good experience.
Booking travel through United from AUS to ORD to BRU then NCE. My understanding that flight in will come into T1 but I know Intl flights are out of T5. We will have already checked bags in Austin. Question is what will we need to do once we get to ORD to get onto our international flight and more importantly will we have enough time. Our first international flight in a long time. Your assistance is appreciated.
Actually, you are incorrect. United international flights depart from Terminal 1. So all you have to do in ORD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.
I am traveling from Tampa to Seoul with a connecting flight in ORD. My layover time is 1 hr 19 mins, is the enough time? If I'm flying AA to ORD and from ORD will I have to go through security again to exit the US? Also will I have to recheck my bags if the AA flights are on the same itinerary?
There is no special security when leaving the US. What airline are you flying to Seoul? AA does not fly from Chicago to Seoul.
I'm sorry. I meant to PVG. Once I am there I will fly to ICN on Asiana Airlines.
OK, then all you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3. You have enough time.
My boyfriend is traveling from CVG to ORD on Friday. He has a 43 minute layover before leaving for NRT. All flights are American. This does not seem like enough time and I'm trying to get him to switch to an earlier flight leaving CVG. Am I just being paranoid / anxious / crazy? Thanks in advance!
As long as his flight from Cincinnati is on time, he will be able to make the flight. He will simply have to walk from concourse G where his plane will land to concourse K where the Tokyo flight will land. This is very doable, but it leaves very little space for delay.
My destination is St'louis. I am travelling from India.India -London, London-Chicago(Operated by British airways) from Chicago to st'louis operated by American airlines. Do i need to collect luggage in Chicago or directly at St'louis
In Chicago you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, go through security and to your departure gate.
Hi, Next week I am flying in from Dublin, and then transferring to a flight for Las Vegas. Both flights are with American Airlines. I think I am arriving into T5, and then departing from T3. Will one hour be enough?
If both flights are operated by American then they will both be in T3 and it is possible as all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If the first flight is operated by Aer Lingus it is much more difficult as you will have to go through security again in T3.

Hi guys, I am travelling with my girlfriend from Montreal to Brussels on United Airlines with a layover of 90 minutes at O'Hare airport.
Is the connection time alright? How does it work since I am Indian and my girlfriend is French? Do we need to leave the airport and are any sorts of passport stamps expected? The connecting flight from Washington is on Trans States Airlines operated as United Express. Do we need to recheck our bags? We would be reaching at 4:40 pm and our connecting flight is at 6 pm.
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1 - they are connected inside security by a walkway. You have enough time.
Hi, I have a flight from JFK to ORD by Delta. And ORD to MSP by spirit. I have only 1 hour 30 mins to catch flight from ORD. I will also have 3 checked in luggages from JFK which I have check again with Spirit. Will the time be sufficient? Because I need to collect the luggages and go to terminal 3. Do I have to go through the security again?
No, that is not enough time. Yes, you will have to go through security again. You should not have booked this. You could make this without checked baggage but with checked baggage it is impossible.
What should I do now? Is there any way to make it? Any suggestions? We are 4 people travelling.
Book a later flight to MSP, plan on spending the night in Chicago or drive or take the train to MSP. Those are your options.
I haven't bought the ticket yet! I got a nonstop flight from JFK at 11:45 operated by Delta. My flight from Dubai to JFK will arrive at 8:50 am. Can I make it through immigration, baggage claims, customs , baggage re check and security screening in 2 hours and 50 mins ??
There is not way to make this flight. You have to claim your bags from delta and recheck the bags at Spirit and then go though security. You need at least 2 hrs to do this.
