I have a flight to Chicago from Frankfurt Germany (Lufthansa) that was initially going to include a connection from Chicago to St. Louis (United). However, my plans have changed and I am now going from Chicago to Tulsa (United). What do I do about my bag that will be tagged to go to St. Louis? Where do I go to check it in for the different flight? thank you.

Two options. In Frankfurt you can show your Tulsa confirmation to the agent and hopefully the agent is able to tag your bag through to Tulsa instead of St. Louis. Then you will be able to re-check it at the transfer desk in T5 and then go to your departure terminal on the ATS train. If that's not possible, then in Chicago, after you claim your bag and go through customs, rip the tags off, take the ATS train to T1 and re-check your bags at the United counter to Tulsa (you will have to pay a checked bag fee).

    thank you!

  • DEL to Chicago and Chicago to Toronto terminal transfer

I am travelling from Delhi to Chicago and then i need to take connecting flight from terminal T2 to Toronto. I have layover of around 2 hrs.. is 2 hours enough to make terminal transfer and what will be the process? Will i need to do baggage claim and check in again at ORD? Both the flights are booked under one ticket Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you will arrive in T5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk if they are tagged through to YYZ. Then you will take the ATS train from T5 to T2, get your Air Canada boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security. It doesn't leave much time to spare but it's possible.

  • T3 to T5 Transfer

i have AA flight from SFO to ORD coming into T3 and then a flight from T5, Etihad Airways to AbuDabhi. Tickets are booked together. I assume the baggage will go thru to the final destination. Do i need to come out of the security zone on T3 and then make a train transfer to T5? or can i internally go to T5 without having to go through the security again.

Yes, your bags will be checked through to your final destination. Yes, you will have to exit T3 and take the ATS train one stop to T5 and go back through security.

  • Going from Terminal 1 to 5 in 45 minutes

I have a flight landing in ORD at 6:30PM at terminal 1 and going to Zurich from terminal 5 at 7:15. Is 45 minutes enough time to make it to that flight?

It's possible but doesn't leave much time for delays. It will take you 15-20 minutes to get to T5 on the ATS train, leaving only 20-25 minutes to get through security and to your departure gate.

Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 in a 3 hour layover. What is the process for doing this? Never flown through ORD before so I'd appreciate some info.

What airline are you flying from Terminal 5? If you do need to go to Terminal 5, you simply follow the signs to Terminal 5, which lead to the ATS train, you take the ATS train 3 stops, enter T5 and go through security.

  • Connecting Time 45min

Heelo! I landed at 2:40pm with US 593 from Phoenix, my connecting flight is AB7421 to Berlin at 3:25pm, that means 45min. Is this enough time to reach my second flight? (I think both flights are at Terminal 3!)

Yes, both flights are in Terminal 3. Yes, that is enough time if your first flight is on-time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you for your fast answer, it is very helpfully for my booking decision!

  • Separate tickets for International to domestic flight: Baggage claim??
    Nov 2, 2014

Hello, I am flying into ORD on an international flight landing in T5. I have a SEPARATE ticket for AA out of T3. Do I claim my bags in baggage claim or do I claim them in Customs/Immigration and recheck them there to American? I have 2 1/2 hours (hopefully) layover. Thanks!

You will claim your bag after you go through Immigration and then go through US Customs. If your bags are not tagged through to your final destination, you have to take them with you on the ATS train to Terminal 3 to check them with American.

  • International to Domestic connection

Hi, I am flying in to Chicago from Toronto (US customs is done in Toronto) on United Airlines then I am flying to Phoenix on US Airlines. Will I have to go through security to catch the domestic flight? I need to know for duty free purposes. Thank you for your help!

You will arrive (as a domestic arrival) at either domestic Terminal 1 (B or C gates) or at domestic T2 (F gates) and will depart from domestic terminal T3 (either G, H, K or L gates). For transfer between T1 & T3 you have two options: (a) Use walkways at post-security areas of the Departures level - follow signs; T3's walkway is near Concourse G (the walkway between T2 to T1 is for flight transfers of United Express). (b) The free ATS shuttle train runs every few minutes in the unsecured areas of the terminals.

Yes, you can walk between T1 or T2 and T3 inside security.

  • United connection to turkish airlines with bags to check in

I am scheduled to arrive at 7.35pm and will need to get by bags and check them back in for my turkish airlines flight scheduled for 9.50pm. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. However, if your tickets were bought together and your flight on United is domestic then you won't have to do anything with your bags.

  • Fort Wayne to Montreal

I am flying from Fort Wayne to Chicago on AA and from Chicago to Montreal on Air Canada. I have to reclaim my bag, go through security/immigration and switch terminals from 3 to 2. Where do I go to reclaim and recheck my bag and will I have enough time with 2hrs?

You have the process all wrong. First of all, did you purchase your tickets separately or together? If together your bags will be checked through to Montreal and you won't see them until you get there. If together you will have to claim them in Terminal 3 and take them to Terminal 2. Secondly, you do not have to go through US Immigration when leaving the US. If you purchased tickets together all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate in T3 to your departure gate in T2, they are connected inside security. If you purchased separate tickets, all you have to do is claim your bag in T3, go up to the departure level and to T2 (which is right next door) and check it with Air Canada, then go through security. You have enough time.

  • Connecting from Gate F to Gate C

I have 55 minutes to get from Gate F to Gate C. What is the fastest route? Do I have go through security ?

The F concourse and C concourse are connected inside security by a walkway and then an underground tunnel. It will be about a 15 minute walk.

Flying in from Quebec, Montreal with less than 45 minutes to catch our connecting flight to Japan. Luggage booked thru - will this be enough time

Yes, that should be enough time. Both gates will be connected inside security and you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal.

Flying from Vancouver to Chicago then Chicago to Copenhagen with a 1hr50min layover. Trying to only have carryon luggage. What will the process be?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver. Your arrival into ORD will be like a domestic flight. If you purchased both of your tickets together, you will just have to exit your arrival terminal (Terminal 1 if you are flying United), then take the ATS Train to Terminal 5 (assuming you are flying SAS to Copenhagen), then go through security. 1 hr 50 minutes is plenty of time.

Thank you. I did purchase both tickets together. If I was to check a bag in Vancouver, would it go straight through to Copenhagen or do I have to pick it up in Chicago and recheck it?

It would go straight through to Copenhagen.

  • arriving domestic leaving intl in 55 minutes

United airlines is allowing me to book a flight from ACY to ORD connecting ORD to HKG with a 55 minute time to connect. If this is not enough I am thinking the airline will not allow me to book it. My luggage will go through to HKG, but will I need to get rescreened? is this enough time?

All you need to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in Terminal 2 and you will depart from Terminal 1. However, they are connected inside security by a walkway. 55 minutes is enough time.

I'm flying from Manchester uk to Chicago for a connection onto Orlando with a 3 hour stop over, do I reclaim my bags when in Chicago to check in again for Orlando ? Flights are all with AA. My first connecting flights so any help would be great thanks !

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check them at the transfer desk, then you will go up to the ATS train and take it to Terminal 3 (one stop) and then go through security. You should have plenty of time.
