  • like to have a plan

I will be arriving nov 6 from Amsterdam on flight UA908 and need to connect with flight UA510 to Halifax. Can you please tell me the procedure I should follow and what terminals and gates I may be using to help me from getting lost? Thanks

You will arrive in Terminal 5 and clear immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, and re-check your bags all there. You will then have to take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 depending on where your Halifax flight will be departing. You probably mean your on Flight 5210 - it could leave from either terminal.

  • nervous help please
    Oct 13, 2013
Hi, I am traveling to Dallas from Chicago. I land from the UK at terminal 5 and I only have 1 hour 40 mins to change terminal. Both flights are with AA so will I need to collect lugage? Also will I have enough time to get through passport control and to the next terminal. Very stressed about this. Any help would be appreciated please.

No need to be stressed at this time of the year: You land at the International Terminal 5 (T5) where you will need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag where indicated; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting terminal T3, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. Look at overhead screens to find your flight and gate number. T3 has Concourses G, H, K & L with corresponding gates: Concourse G has gates G1A-G21, (gates G13-G17 are on lower level); Concourse H has gates H1-H18; Concourse K has gates K1-K20; and Concourse L has gates L1-L10 (including gate L2A/B) .

  • What is the quickest and easiest way to go between terminals?
    Oct 12, 2013
My elderly parents are flying SAS airlines from Copenhagen to Chicago 1st of Nov, flight number SK0943, then have to catch the AA flight to Dallas, flight number AA2357. Their arrival is at 9:05 PM, departure 11:20 PM. The transfer time is short and they are very concerned if they can make it. Which terminal they will have to got to and what is the quickest way to travel between the terminals? Are there any tips they should know to make the transfer quicker and easier?

Your parents would arrive at Terminal 5, where would need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag*; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to their connecting terminal, where they will need to go through security check before proceeding to their connecting gate. *However, as SAS & AA do not belong to the same Airline Alliance, they need to contact SAS as to whether SAS will transfer their bags - if not - they would have to take their bags after customs clearance and re-check them in at Terminal 3's AA check-in counter. They have plenty of time for transfer. Terminal 3 has Concourses G, H, K & L with corresponding gates (i.e., gate G13).

I'm so sorry, wrote the wrong time: they arrive to ORD from CPH at 7:10 PM, leave from ORD to DFW at 9:05 PM. It's 1hr 55 min, is that enough to get through immigration and then reach another terminal? Thank you for the answer!

To expedite their transfer consider reserving wheelchair or golf-cart shuttle service 1494for them. This will move them more quickly and offer assistance with the baggage. An added advantage is that they may be dropped off at the front of the line and allowed to bypass that wait. Call SAS directly to make the arrangements.

I do not know why those numbers (1494) are appearing in my post. j did not type them and they have nothing to do with my message.

  • Connecting aa flights
    Oct 20, 2013
Hi we are flying from London heathrow on 18/10/13 and have a 3 hr stop over and connection in Chicago we arrive terminal 5 and depart terminal 1 for Orlando will we need to go to baggage reclaim or will the luggage go straight to connecting flight apologies as I have not used connecting flights before

I also meant to say both flights are with AA

Any time you enter the US from abroad you have to claim your baggage and go through customs at your initial entry point.

I plan to travel in November, my qatar airways flight will be coming from Dubai to Chicago and then to Denver through Qatar airways . Layover will be 3hrs. I need info on how the process is after I exit the plane in Chicago. do I have to g through baggage claim here, since the flight to Denver is through Qatar airways? and how far is the baggage claim from the immigration?

Qatar Airways does not fly Dubai-Chicago. It flies Doha-Chicago. Also, Qatar Airways does not fly to Denver. Your Chicago-Denver flight will likely be operated by American Airlines. In Chicago, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, then re-check your bags, then you will have to go upstairs and take the ATS train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3, there you will get your American boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security and to your gate. You will need at least 2 hours to do this, possibly more. Your arrival in Denver will be like a normal domestic flight, you will just collect your bags there.

  • 1 hr conect time flying AA to Toronto, Canada
    Sep 27, 2013
I am flyimg AA from St.Louis and have 1 hour to connect to an AA flight to Toronto. All in terminal 3 do I have to go through security again and do I have enough time?

Yes, you should have enough time if your flight from St. Louis is on-time. No, you will not have to go through security.

  • Getting to American connecting flight from United Express
    Sep 21, 2013
Will be arriving @ O'Hare from Springfield, Ill via United Express (Flight #5436). How do we stay air side and get to our connecting flight on American (Flight #224)to Boston. We have a 1-1/2 hr. layover at O'Hare.

You will likely arrive in Terminal 2, You can simply follow the signs and walk to the H/K concourse of Terminal 3 where your American flight to Boston will depart. You won't have to go through security again.

  • lhr to phx on united
    Sep 19, 2013
we arrive next tuesday on united 929 from london and need to get on united 1025 to phoenix. everyone at united seem confident we will be ok, but they would say that anyway. we have booked seats at the front of the econ plus cabin to minimis time leaving plan. we will have to have checked bags. any tips please?

Yes, you should have enough time but you'll have to hurry. You'll re-check your bags with United in Terminal 5, then take the ATS train to Terminal 1 and go back through security. The checkpoint on the far left side of Terminal 1 (closest to Terminal 2) usually has the shortest lines.

thanks Zap. I guess as soon as we see the state of immigration we will know if we have a chance.

  • 30 minutes connection time
    Sep 7, 2013
Can you tell me if I will have enough time to connect to my flight to CVG if I only have 30 minutes in between flights? Will be Arriving from LGA.

Forgot to mention I will be flying on American

If your first flight is on-tme you should be OK. You will likely arrive in concourse H/K and depart from concourse G. However, flights from LGA are frequently delayed.

  • gate times
    Sep 6, 2013
arriving at 9 40 am from msp 9/9.american going to shangghai American at 10 35. Are the gates next to each other? WHy did cheap o air allow such limited times? will this work?

Both flights will likely be in the H/K concourse of Terminal 3. If your first flight is on-time you will have enough time.

  • 1h 35m connection time
    Sep 5, 2013
Hi, I arrive in Terminal 5 from London (LHR) with British Airways at 06.05 p.m. I connect through Terminal 2 to San Francisco (SFO) with American Airlines at 7.40 p.m. I need to take and recheck the checked baggage at Terminal 5? If I have only the hand luggage It is a way to safe time at immigration? Both flights are booked on one ticket with British Airways. Is 1 hour 35 minutes enough? What will it happen if I miss the flight to SFO since that it is the last flight of the day? Thanks in advance!

Your flight to San Francisco will be from Terminal 3, not Terminal 2. You will be able to re-check checked baggage in Terminal 5. Yes, not having checked baggage will save you time. If you miss your flight they may be able to re-book you on the United flight at 9 PM, but I wouldn't count on it. However, if your flight is on-time and you hurry you should be OK.

  • 1 hour 40 minute connection time
    Sep 4, 2013
I arrive in Terminal 5 from Thunder Bay (YQT) at 6.31 a.m. I connect through Terminal 1 to Las Vegas (LAS) at 8.11 a.m. I'll need to clear customs in Terminal 5 and transfer to Terminal 1. Both flights are booked on one ticket with United. Is 1 hour 40 minutes cutting it a little too close? Would I be better to just opt for a later connection in Chicago? I assume United will book me on a later flight if I try the short connection and don't make it.

You should be fine. Immigration is empty that early in the morning (all there is at that time is the Sao Paulo flights). Yes, if you don't make it United will book you on a later flight. Also, the security checkpoint to the far left of Terminal 1 (right next to terminal 2) usually has the shortest lines.

  • United Schedule Change gives us only 37 min to transfer.
    Sep 4, 2013
Hi, we are flying with United from Seattle to Cleveland via Chicago on Sept 05. United recently changed our schedule allowing only 37 min to transfer in Chicago. Don't know our gates yet, but we are arriving on UA 278 and departing on UA 5198. This is our first time to Chicago airport, but I have found that United can be Terminal 1 or 2. Do you know if we will be arriving and departing from the same terminal?

You will arrive in Terminal 1. Your departure could be from Terminal 1 or 2. However, Terminal 1 and 2 are connected beyond security and the worst case walk is about 15-20 minutes. Also, United has almost hourly flights from Chicago to Cleveland so if you do miss your connection you have ample opportunities for rebooking.

  • 01:45 transfer time
    Sep 2, 2013
Hi, we're doing a MAD-ORD-SFO flight on january 14 (Tuesday), and have a 1h 45min transfer time, arriving at T5 and departing from T3, will we have enough time to go through immigration, baggage collect, customs and baggage re-check? Incoming flight is Iberia and outcoming AA. If we miss the connecion, will they get us in the next available flight? Ticket was bought from MAD to SFO. Thanks!

BTW, I forgot to mention that the incoming flight is supposed to arrive at 14:20. Regards.

You should have enough time but you'll have to hurry. Yes, you will have to go through immigration, collect your baggage, go through customs, and then re-check it all in T5, then take the ATS train to T3 and go through security. Yes, if you miss your connection AA will put you on the next available flight to SFO.

    Great, thanks a lot :)

  • Arr T5 from DUB ,connecting to T2 to BNA
    Aug 31, 2013
Arriving 6P from DUB with Aer Lingus into T5.Leaving T2 with UA to BNA at 2058.No pre clearance in DUB for immigration. Will I have enough time to clear immigration, customs, get bags get to T2 and have a beer before UA to BNA??

Yes, that should be enough time. United does have kiosks in T2 if you still need your United boarding pass at that point. There's not really many good places in T2 to have a beer.

    @ZAP Thanks for your advice
