  • IST-ORD-DEN 1.5 hour connection in ORD
    Jan 24, 2015

I'm flying on Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, connection time in Chicago is 1.5 hours before United flight to Denver. I won't have checked luggage. Is 1.5 hour enough connection time in Chicago?

Yes, that should barely be enough time if your first flight is on-time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the ATS train to Terminal 1 and go through security and to your departure gate.

Thank you. I don't have checked bags, so would 1.5 hours be plenty of time, or does "barely enough time" already assume I have no checked bags?

Yes, having no checked bags makes it a lot easier, there's a special lane for people with no checked bags.

  • 45 min till bording closes

Hi! I'm arriving at 5pm from Aspen (if the plane is exactly on time) and I need to catch a plane that leaves at 6pm to Amsterdam. The bording will start 5.15 and end 5.45 so I have max. 45 min to reach the gate. Is that possible? Do I have to go through security again?

You do not have to go through security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Yes, you have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

I have a 65 min. layover in Chicago. Coming from Canada on United to Terminal 1 and leaving from Terminal 3. Since I purchased the ticket altogether I thought the luggage would continue on. Is this the case, because I know if I do have to collect luggage we will never make it.

What airline are you flying out of Terminal 3?

We're flying in from North Dakota to ORD with a connecting flight to Dublin with an 1 hr 10 min layover, we are suppose to get in at 4pm and take off at 6:10 to Dublin, we have to checked baggage and will have put phones for the tickets for American airlines, we were planing on the tsa precheck of needed, please tell me we have enough time to make the flight, kind regards

Sorry, stupid phone :( we do not have any checked bags, just our backpacks and we will check in and have the tickets on our phones

If both flights are on American you only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3. In that case you have enough time.

Awesome! They are both AA, so that takes a huge weight off! So we don't have to go though TSA again or anything? I'm am excited now! Thanks for the quick response! Very helpful

No, all AA gates are connected inside security.

Hi, I wil have 46 minutes to transfer on may 30th to fly to FRA is that possible?! With Lufthansa. My checked in bags will automatically be transferred right? thank you

If you purchased your tickets together and your first flight is domestic, yes, that is enough time and your baggage will be transferred.

Flying in from Buffalo to chicago on US airways and going onto American airlines to Montego we have a 45 minute to do this. I am told we do not need to collect luggae. How far am I from arrival of us airways to departure american airlines? Same terminal?

Both flights will be operated by American Eagle/American. Both flights will be in Terminal 3. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • STL to IST via ORD on 2 sep tickets

I am arriving to ORD from STL on AA at 7:54pm and connecting to Turkish for a flight at 9:30pm on 2 sep. ticket. I will not be checking bags. Will I have enough time to connect? Will I have to go though security again?

That should barely be enough time. You will have to take the ATS Train from T3 to T5, get your Turkish boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.

  • Is an hour enough?

I'm flying from Duluth, MN to Orlando, FL and have an hour layover at O'Hare. Is that enough time to make my connection? I'm travelling alone with a two year old (she will be in a stroller so hopefully I can walk pretty fast). Also, will I have to go through security again in Chicago?

I'm flying with United for both flights.

No, you will not have to go through security in O'Hare. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1 but they are connected inside security by a walkway.

  • Where to go and checked bags

I will be travelling from kitchener/waterloo Canada to Tampa Fl. With a 57 minute connection at O'hare. I have to clear customs in chicago because we don't have US customs in Kitchener. If i check a bag will i have enough time to make my connection? Or should i just bring a carry on? Where exactly will i go when i get to the airport in chicago? I arrive at terminal 5 with american airline ( american eagle) and i depart for tampa at i think terminal 3. Can someone please help me with this, i really don't want to miss my connection.

That's a virtually impossible connection. I Suppose it might be barely possible with a carry on. You will arrive in T5, get your gate-checked bag, go through US Immigration, claim checked bags (if you have them), go through US Customs, then re-check your checked bags (i f you have them), then take the ATS train to T3 and go through security. It seems there is a bug in the AA system that allows these flights to be sold as Kitchener/Waterloo is the only Canadian airport AA flies to that does not have preclearance.

  • AMS to SFO with transfer on ORD
    Jan 19, 2015

Hi all, You all seem to know so much about transfers and I really want to know what to expect when travelling so I'm asking for your help. We will be travelling from AMs to SFO with a transfer in ORD. We will travel with United, so we'll have to transfer terminals as well. Is it possible to do in less than 2 hours? And what about our bags, will they be labeled through to SFO or do we have to pick 'em up en recheck? We probably have to go through customs as well, I'm afraid. Are there special lines for this or is it just like when you arrive and leave only now it's in one hour instead of a couple of days/weeks? And what will happen in SFO, would it be the same as if when you arrive in the States after an intercontinental flight or do we need a different line to go through customs? I hope my questions made any sense and thank you for reading

In Chicago, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk (they will already be tagged to SFO), then you will take the ATS train to T1 and go through security and to your departure gate. It is possible to do in 2 hours. In SFO you will not have to go through customs. You can just proceed directly to the baggage claim and leave the airport.

Im flying from Dublin to LIT, stopping in London Heathrow and ORD, all flights are British Airways or American Airways, I assume that baggage transfer will be arranged and i dont have pick up and check my bag in again, but i do have to change terminals in both Heathrow and ORD, do I have to go through security again? Also baggage allowance on these flights, between Dublin and Heathrow and ORD and LIT, is my baggage allowance the same (23kg) as it is on the international flight? Please help...

In Chicago you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the ATS train to Terminal 3 and go through security and to your departure gate. Since you purchased an international ticket you will have the same baggage allowance the entire trip.
