Hi, my parents are travelling from India to Chicago. After immigration, will I be able to meet them at the baggage claim to help them with baggages? Or will they have to do it and clear customs before we meet them? Kindly advice.
You won't be able to meet them until after they have cleared customs.
Envoy air changed their schedule. I am flying from AZO to YKF on April 15th. I now have a 29 minute layover in ORD. Both flights arrive at and depart from terminal 3. Is that enough time to change planes? I will have no checked baggage.
It's possible but it leaves no time to spare if the flight from Kalamazoo is delayed and the flight to Waterloo/Kitchener and there are only 2 daily flights on that route. I would personally ask for a refund on your ticket due to the schedule change and just drive.
I want to travel from Toronto Canada to Hyderabad India. I saw Air Canda flight from Toronto to Chicago and Air India flight from Chicago to Hyderabad. to book this flights and travel do i need US Visa
If you are an Indian citizen, yes, you do.
Thank you for the reply. I am an Indian Citizen with canada PR and I am not stepping out of Airport just to change the flight with in airport still I need US visa
Yes, you will still need a US transit visa.
We will be returning to US from Europe via Dublin and Chicago to South Dakota. We have a 2 hour layover in Chicago. Is that enough time to go through customs? We will have no checked bags. Thanks.
Hello. I have a flight to Boston in 2 weeks from ORD at 1045am. My shuttle bus (I am travelling from Urbana) only gets in at 945am. Is that enough time? I will not have any bags to check in. It will be a Thursday morning. Thanks in advance
Late morning, assuming your bus arrives as scheduled should be just enough time. Usually by 9:45 the lines from the morning have died down.
Thanks a lot, Zap for your prompt and reassuring response.
So my boyfriend is traveling to Raleigh, NC from London, ON with a 4 hour layover in Chicago, IL. I'm not too worried about him missing his connecting flight since he should have plenty of time. What I am confused about is if he checks a bag in London will he have to worry about claiming it in Chicago and rechecking it? We had called the airline, United, and was told it would not need to be rechecked but now I am doubting that after reading some comments here for very similar flights saying that the bag does need to be claimed and rechecked after customs.
If he doesn't need to claim it what is stopping him from going through the 1 stop line for people with only carry-ons?
Whoever you talked to at United is wrong. He will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, re-check his bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 and go through security and to his departure gate.
Sorry for the probably dumb question but what is the difference between US Immigration and US Customs there? Is clearing immigration when he shows his passport and reason for visit and such and customs for declaring items (which he won't be declaring anything) We usually land travel and he's done this flight once before but his flight ended in Chicago instead of connecting elsewhere and he never had a checked bag on that flight and both times he doesn't remember, nor do I, talking to more than 1 person. Thanks in advance, we are just confused and like to be prepared.
Yes, you have it right. Immigration is for people, customs is for stuff (and in most cases simply consists of handing a form to a guy).
Ah, thanks. So basically if he has nothing to declare he just doesn't really deal with customs? We've literally never had to deal with customs because we don't ever have anything to declare. And just one last question. What happens to his luggage if he's held by CBP longer than usual? Sorry I can't help but ask question, just that kind of person.
Yes, if you don't have anything to declare you just hand off your sheet and walk through. If he is held by CBP his bags will just rotate on the carousel until he is released.
I will be arriving in ORD from shanghai via UA at 5:45 pm. And I have a flight to BWI at 7:45 via UA. Will i still have to claim my bag? Or if not, is that enough time?
Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 1, and go through security. You should have just enough time.
I am flying with United air, arriving from Pearson airport in Toronto and the airline has given me 45 min to connect to the flight bound for Tokyo. Is this enough time? I have another flight 2.5 hrs from Tokyo to Singapore with ANA and am concerned about the short connection times
45 minutes is enough time if your flight from Toronto is on-time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago and Tokyo is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Thank-you very much. I appreciate your help. If my flight is not on time, does the airline have to put you on another flightt all the way? If I miss my Tokyo flight(with United) then I would probably miss my connecting flight from Tokyo to Singapore(switching to ANA).
United will figure out a way to get you to SIngapore. There are numerous options.
I plan to take a UA473, scheduled to arrive at Chicago O'Hare at 6:43pm and then take a AA flight to AA to Hong Kong via Los Angeles. The flight leaving Chicago is scheduled to leave at 20:30. Is it enough time for me to do that?
WIll you have checked bags? WIth checked bags I think it would be difficult if not impossible. Without checked bags I think you could make it.
Thanks. Can I proceed directly to the gate (AA teeminal is?) from UA (terminal ?) if I just have a hand carrying luggage
Yes, you could proceed directly to the departure gate.
The TSA security checkpoints at ORD are by far the SLOWEST and WORST in the nation. Too few TSA agents, with at least two visibly "on break" at all times. They show complete disregard for passengers about to miss a flight. Hopefully someone at the airport will read this and replace the management. Most likely not, though. A quick search shows that this is a chronic problem.
