I will be flying with United from Beijing to Toronto with a connection at ORD. Do I have to clear custom with my bags at ORD before boarding the connecting flight?
Yes, in Chicago you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 or 2 where you depart, then go through security and to your departure gate. With the current security delays at O'hare you realistically are looking at needing at least 3 hours for this connection.
Arriving May 10th at ORD with AA 6197 at 6:35pm Connecting to MHK 3156 with AA at 8:15pm My father will need wheelchair service, which is requested and should be in the computers. How reliable is the wheelchair service? the time between flights is scary short, is it doable with the wheelchair service? Customs, immigration, luggage. will they hold the flight for him since it will be the last one for this day. Will a $40 tip be appropriate?
Thank you w

AA6197 is actually British Airways flight 297. Does British Airways know or did you just call American? He should have enough time for his connection. They won't hold the flight for him if his first flight is late. That is an appropriate tip.
Hello, was wondering if a 2 hour layover at ORD with United from NRT to YYZ will be enough time to complete everything. Will United hold for passengers to make their connecting flight and in the event of a missed flight, what are my options? Thank you for taking the time to read this!
2 hours is doable if the flight from Tokyo is on-time. They won't hold the flight for you, but will book you on the next flight if you miss it.
Thanks for the quick response, fingers crossed I have enough time for it all. Worried that with going through customs as a non-US citizen and rechecking luggage it won't be ebought time....
I'm flying from STL to London via ORD. Landing at ORD Terminal 2 and then leaving for London from Terminal 2. Bags will be checked through, but is 1hr20mins enough time to land, change terminals and clear security for the next flight? Thanks
Sorry - i meant landing at Terminal 2 ORD and then leaving from Terminal 1!
You don't have to go through security. There is a walkway connecting Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 inside security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.
That's great. Thanks for letting me know - usually international transfers you don't go through security twice, but with changing terminals i wasn't sure. Thanks for the help.
Hi, I am flying from Tokyo (NRT) to Toronto (YYZ) with a connecting flight at O'Hare airport with United. Will my checked luggage need to be reclaimed at O'Hare or does it go directly to Pearson? I am a Canadian citizen if that makes any difference. Thank you!
You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the ATS Train to Terminal 1 or 2, and go through security and to your departure gate.
Thanks for the response! My layover is 2 hours long - will that be enoguh time? Following up on that, with the return flight going the other way around (YYZ -> ORD -> NRT) I'll be pre-cleared for US Immigration and customs in YYZ and will not have to reclaim/recheck bags in ORD?
