  • Time it takes to get outside?

About how long would it take for someone to land in Terminal 2, collect baggage (assuming typical baggage times), and make it outside?

Probably about 15-20 minutes after arrival.

  • London to chicago to raleigh, with 2hr time in between the flights

Hi, I am travelling from London to raleigh through chicago ( ORD). I am arriving at terminal 5 in british Airways and have my next flight (AA) from terminal 3? is the connecting time enough? and should I claim my baggage after immigration and go through security check and check in again at terminal 3? or security check is done only at Raleigh?

You will go through US Immigration in Terminal 5, then claim your baggage, go through US Customs, re-check your baggage with American, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security.

  • 1hr 35mins enough time to connect from Terminal 5 to 3?

I'll be coming from Madrid Spain arriving 2:30pm in ORD at Terminal 5, then I have to get to Terminal 3 for my connecting flight to Toronto departing 4:05pm. Will I have enough time? I see posts here about a walkway you can use to avoid going through immigration and security again? Is this valid for travel from Terminal 5? I'm not staying in the US so I don't understand the need to go through immigration and security again. And of course I want to get to my gate as quick as possible. I have no checked luggage. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

There is no such walkway - you HAVE to go through US Immigration, go through US Customs, then take the ATS train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. Even though you are not staying the US, you still have to go through US Immigration and customs.

Thanks for your reply Zap, much appreciated.

  • Assistance thru customs

Our daughter will arrive with a two year old and too much luggage to handle alone. Are porters available in the customs area to help her get through?

The international arrivals /customs area has free baggage carts. If she needs further assistance, she should approach any employee there to get her through the process.

    Thanks for the insight.

  • Getting from terminal 3 to terminal 5

Is there a way to get from term 3 to term 5 without going through security again. We fly in on American Eagle from MLI & leave on BA to LHR. I think both were booked through BA but not 100% sure until I get my itinerary.

Yes, there is a way - BA runs a shuttle bus from T3 to T5 from gates G17 and K20 in T3. However, it only operates once every 30 minutes, so its usefulness is somewhat limited. Also make sure that your LHR flight is operated by BA, if it is operated by AA you will leave from T3.

Thank you. Do you know of any way I could check to see if it's on the hour or half hour that it runs.

Well, it runs every half hour, so I assume it's at the top and bottom of the hour during the late afternoon.

Sorry about that. I've been looking almost all day trying to find out about this before I got to this website & my brain & eyes feel fried. I misread it. Thank you so much.

You will not go through go through customs or immigration in Seattle as both Seattle and San DIego are in the United States. I can't help you any further unless you tell me what airlines you are flying and whether you purchased the tickets together or separately.

i'm flying with KLM , do they have code share with Delta airlines ? I purchased my tickets for san diego to sea-tac , sea-tac to heathrow together. Do i have to take trains to go to departure area or gates once i arrive in sea-tac ? which terminal will i go for my departure to heathrow ? many thanks for your tips !

Yes, Delta and KLM codeshare and in fact all of your flights will be operated by Delta. Both of your flights should be in the S Satellite. On your way to Europe you won't have to do anything with your bags in Seattle - they will be checked through to London in San Diego.

Hey, I fly into chicago o'hare on saturday august 2nd at 16:15 in terminal 3 with american airlines and i have a flight to catch in terminal 5 at 17:05 (very little time i know) with american airlines operated by british airways. I'm pretty sure i won't have enough time to go through security at T5 - is there a website where i can have confirmation that the BA shuttle actually runs from T3 to T5 and that I won't need to go through security again?? Thank you :)

Arriving at Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, then re-check your bags.. Is all this done in Terminal 5 even if your next leg was purchased on a separate booking.. Or will I have to depart T5 with my luggage and find the AA Departure Counter? Thanks for any help

I am a student flying from O'Hare to Amsterdam. This is my first international flight. Can you give me an idea of how/where I check in at the airport and do I go through customs there or not until I get to Amsterdam? I will be traveling alone so I would be glad for any information/help I can get.

I'm travelling on UA from FRA to YYC via ORD - do I have to clear customs in ORD or will my baggage go through to YYC?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then you can re-check your baggage. Then you will take the ATS Train from T5 to T1, go through security, and to your departure gate.

Hi, i am really stressed. I am travelling from norway and i am only 18 years old. Never been on such a bog airport as chicago. I will arrive at terminal 5 at 6.25pm... and i will have a next føight that will fly at 8.15pm.... so my question is. Will i make it?

You have enough transfer time. On arrival at ORD - at Interntional Terminal 5, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in bag where indicated; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting terminal, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR 2 FLIGHTS ON ONE TICKET, your bags will automatically be transferred, if not (and your connecting flights is not a code-share flight between 2 airlines) you would need to take your bag first to the connecting airline counter & re-check it in there before boarding the ATS train. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ord then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

If you provide me with what airlines you are flying and where you are flying to I can provide you with more detailed instructions/advice.

  • Enough Time to Transfer?
    Feb 28, 2014

I'm flying into Chicago from San Francisco and need to transfer to a flight to London Ontario with 44 minutes in between arriving and departing. Is that enough time?

If your first flight is on-time yes it will be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 1 and depart from Terminal 2 (assuming both flights are on United/United Express). T1 and T2 are connected by walkways inside security.

I have a flight from O'hare airport to San Juan, PR at 9:40 am on a Saturday. The carrier is Jetblue. I'll take Van Galder bus and the estimated arrival time at the airport is 8:05. I have bags to check in. Can I make it in 1 hr 35 min? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. It doesn't hurt to check in online before your trip, even if you have a bag to check.

  • Terminal 5 nightmare canadian passport with us green card
    Jan 22, 2014
    1
Yesterday evening coming back to Chicago from Puerto Vallarta after 1 week vacation, I was not allowed to go through the Us/Canadian resident passport holder entry line. Because i had a Canadian passport with a Us perm. resident card, i was not allowed to go through that line. I had to go through immigration with others traveling from other countries on a visa, who are non us residents or hold a green card. Horrible nightmare. Officers and staff disorganized. They did not have an answer for why Canadian passport holder with green card could not be processed in the US/CAN. line. I have travelled back and forth to the US with a green card for over 15 years. This was a nightmare, with over 60 mins. to be processed and the other line took less than 10 mins.

Big Deal!!! now you know how the rest of us feel

  • NRT-ORD-SAT
    Jan 9, 2014

I am an international traveler. I will take a flight from NRT (Japan) to ORD (Chicago USA) on this Sunday, 12 Jan. My flight will arrive at 3:00pm and I need to take another flight from ORD to SAT ( San Antonio, TX) at 5:00pm. All filghts are operation by United. I would like to know within 2hrs connecting flight, is that doable for connecting flight? Do I need recheck in my bag in ORD, if yes how to do that? And How to take ATS train to make connecting flight. Thank a lot

You will arrive in Terminal 5 where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bag, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bag at the re-check desk. You will then go up 2 levels, following the signs to Terminal 1 or 2 (your flight may leave from either Terminal 1 or 2) to the ATS train. You will take it to Terminal 1 or 2 and then go through security and to your gate. If your SAT flight has a gate number beginning with B or C you will leave from T1 and if it begins with E or F you will leave from T2. You should have enough time if your flight from NRT is on-time.

Thank a lot for your advice. One more question please, does re-check in bag desk the same level and near US customs? Thank again

    Yes, it is.

  • Parents who can't walk long distances need help
    Dec 9, 2013

How do my parents request help getting from gate to gate at O'Hare? They are OK getting on and off the plane, but not walking distances.

The only way is to request wheelchair service from their airline. However, depending on what airlines they are flying they may not have far to go though.
