  • HKG - ORD - IAD
    Dec 11, 2014
Hello, need help. Am arriving from HKG to ORD at Terminal 5 (I believe), to catch a domestic flight to IAD. Do I need claim my luggage after going through custom and recheck it again for the domestic flight? I bought my tickets at one purchase, shouldn't the luggage be checked in all the way through? and how do I go from Terminal 5 to the Domestic Terminal, will there be a shuttle? I only have 1 hour 30 mins for the layover, will this be enough time? THANK YOU! appreciate the help

You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after customs, then take the ATS train to Terminal 1 where you will go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

    Thank you so much!

    Thank you so much!

  • Layover
    Dec 8, 2014
I am flying from YYZ on Air Canada to Iowa. My layover is 35 mins in Chicago. Then I fly out again with Air Canada to Iowa. Do I have to go through customs or security again before getting on my flight to Iowa? And if I do, is that enough time to get to my gate?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. United will operate your flight to Iowa. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1 or 2. 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway.

    Thank you so much! :)

  • International Layover in Chicago
    Dec 1, 2014
I'm flying from London, Ont to Sarasota, FL with a layover in Chicago on January 3rd. My flight is at 6:30 in the morning and I get into Chicago at 7am. I know London is a small airport so it doesn't have a precheck.. I have a 1 hour and 38 minutes layover in Chicaco. Will this be enough time? I'm worried because it's the holidays. My dad has taken this exact flight before and had no issues but I'm worried as its the holidays and I'm travelling alone. Do I go through a special immigrations line because I have a connecting flight or is there only one line? Thanks!

Also I'm flying with United and I'm not checking any baggage if that makes a difference, just bringing a carry on!

Yes, that should be enough time. There is only one immigration line, although there is an express line if you don't have checked baggage. Immigration is not crowded at that time early in the morning.

We are traveling from Calgary Canada to Amsterdam and have a 50 minute layover at O'hare. Is it possible to make our connection? We go through US customs in Canada and don't go through customs till we land in Amsterdam. We will also only have carry on bags.

If both of your flights are on the same airline it should be enough time as long as your first flight is on-time. If your flight to Amsterdam is on KLM it will be more difficult.

We are flying United for both flights

Yes, then that should be fine, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • How long is suggested for connected flights
    Nov 19, 2014
Hi i'm looking at flights for my family vacation and i was wondering if 45 mins at ORD is long enough for a connecting flight?

If both flights are domestic and on the same airline it is, but it doesn't leave much of a cushion for delays.

  • ORD Short Layover from Canada to US Destination

I will be flying from London, Ontario to Kansas City with a 1 hour, 25 minute stop at ORD. Will this be enough time to make the KC flight and do I need to go through customs/immigration (I am American if that matters on timing).

American does not fly to London, Ontario. Are you on United? American flies to Kitchener/Waterloo. Regardless, neither of those places have US Customs pre-clearance so you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs when you arrive in Chicago. 1 hr 25 mins is barely enough time.

We arrive at the airport mid afternoon and have a 7 hour layover leaving at 9:30....any ideas or tour group that could provide us with a tour of Chicago or at least downtown area and Sears tower?

Just take the CTA Blue Line to Clark and Lake and walk around. It's about a 50 minute trip each way.

  • CLT to YYC Connection from US Airways to United Express
    Oct 22, 2014
My wife and daughter will be flying US Airways from CLT to ORD on US Airways and then must connect to a United Express flight to Calgary with only 50 minutes between flights. Will they be able to get between terminals in time to make their next flight?

Yes, there is a walkway inside security from where they arrive in T3 to where they will depart in T1 or T2. They need to make sure they check in online for their United Express flight before they leave Charlotte.

  • Montreal to charlotte via ORD

We fly into ORD on 3659 and arrive 7:20am. Do we have to go thru customs? Will we have time to catch our 8:45am ORD to CLT 4634 flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in ORD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will have plenty of time.

  • Will I miss my connecting flight?
    Oct 16, 2014
I'm flying ATL-ORD-AMS. My flight from Atlanta lands in Chicago at 4:05PM and then my connecting flight to Amsterdam leaves at 5:25PM. Will I have enough time? Do I have to switch terminals or catch a train? Do I have to re-check my bags and go through another checkpoint? I booked the whole ticket at the same time.

That is a ton of time. If you purchased your tickets together you will not have to do anything with your baggage. What airline are you flying? If both flights are on United then all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you for your quick response! :) The ATL-ORD flight is with Delta and the flight to AMS with KLM.

OK, you still have enough time but the procedure is a little more complex. You will arrive in Terminal 2, you need to exit terminal 2 and follow the signs to the ATS Train to Terminal 5. You will take it to Terminal 5 and go through security.
