We are landing at 15 at T5, then flying with spirit airlines from T3 at 16:20. 1h20min is very little, but will it be enough?

No, that is not enough time. Your airline on DUS-ORD will not transfer your bags to Spirit and you will not make it to the Spirit counter early enough to check your bags for ORD-LAX. You should not have bought that ticket.

Thank you ZAP for the answer. I know this is very risky, but sometimes flight by Lufthansa is a little bit earlier then 15. Maybe there is a chance? Spirit won't give any money back. And if we can't make it we will have to buy some other tickets. Prices are quite high already.

Or maybe without bags, just with the cabin ones? Is it possible then?

With cabin bags and checking in online for your Spirit flight before you leave Germany should be doable. Note that Spirit charges for carry-on bags.

Once again, big thank you ZAP! This is really helpful.

We are arriving on United from Boise and only have 44 minutes before the next United Flight leaves for Brussells. Is that enough time to get through customs/security?

  • Traveling from PHX to AHD India via ORD and Abu dhabi

My wife and kids are traveling from PHX to AHD via ORD and Abu dhabi by Etihad. As we are leaving USA for the first time, I would like to understand will there by any custom formalities to be done ? And where do we need to return I94 - PHX or ORD ? Do they need to pick baggages at ORD and then again undergo screening ?

If all your flights were purchased on a single ticket then you will not have to claim your baggage in ORD. You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. You will hand in your I94 when boarding your Etihad flight in ORD. Note that at ORD you will have to change terminals and go through security though.

Thanks ZAP for your reply. Appreciate it.

  • Time it takes to get outside?

About how long would it take for someone to land in Terminal 2, collect baggage (assuming typical baggage times), and make it outside?

Probably about 15-20 minutes after arrival.

  • London to chicago to raleigh, with 2hr time in between the flights

Hi, I am travelling from London to raleigh through chicago ( ORD). I am arriving at terminal 5 in british Airways and have my next flight (AA) from terminal 3? is the connecting time enough? and should I claim my baggage after immigration and go through security check and check in again at terminal 3? or security check is done only at Raleigh?

You will go through US Immigration in Terminal 5, then claim your baggage, go through US Customs, re-check your baggage with American, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security.

  • 1hr 35mins enough time to connect from Terminal 5 to 3?

I'll be coming from Madrid Spain arriving 2:30pm in ORD at Terminal 5, then I have to get to Terminal 3 for my connecting flight to Toronto departing 4:05pm. Will I have enough time? I see posts here about a walkway you can use to avoid going through immigration and security again? Is this valid for travel from Terminal 5? I'm not staying in the US so I don't understand the need to go through immigration and security again. And of course I want to get to my gate as quick as possible. I have no checked luggage. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

There is no such walkway - you HAVE to go through US Immigration, go through US Customs, then take the ATS train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. Even though you are not staying the US, you still have to go through US Immigration and customs.

Thanks for your reply Zap, much appreciated.
