  • Baggage Transfer and Connecting Flights

Will be arriving on ANA from NRT (Tokyo) transferring to UAL to IAD. Will we be arriving at Terminal 5. Do we clear customs and immigration there? Is there a baggage transfer facility at Terminal 5? How do we get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1 (UAL). It will be January 28th and do we need to go outside to get between terminals? Asking because we will be coming from a tropical climate and may need to unpack jackets and hats before rechecking baggage. Thanks much.

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then there is a re-check desk immediately after you exit customs. Then you will take the ATS train to Terminal 1. The corridors to the ATS train are indoors. Once you reach Terminal 1 you will go through security.

  • Connection time for international flight

Our return flight has just been changed for our trip to Orlando. We are now leaving Orlando and travelling to Chicago terminal 3. My question is would we have enough time as our arrival time is 21.05 and we depart for london at 21.50 that is only 45mins. can you tell me if we would have to go through customs and re-check bags for our international flight. I am travelling as a family with 13 and 15 year old

No, you do not go through US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Chicago is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Thanks very much for your prompt response.

  • Skycap help
    Aug 31, 2014

Travelled today from ORD to OMA via United. Used Skycap to check the bags. 1 of 2 arrived and checked in at same time. In retrospect Skycap may have thought the second bag was a carry on as it was left in front. Also in retrospect I only got one baggage ticket. Is there anyway to contact the skycap people to find out what they did with my bag? There are no direct lines to them apparently.

You will have to contact the ORD lost & found

  • Alitalia lost our bags, won't answer calls or emails
    Aug 26, 2014

We flew Alitalia 628 on August 4 from Rome to ORD. Our baggage did not arrive. It has been 3 weeks and no one answers our calls or emails. We have no way of contacting the Alitalia counter at ORD other than driving the 2 1/2 -3 hours there and go in person, but we work and have kids. There should be some kind of advocate at the airport who can help people in situations such as these. It is so terribly upsetting.

Who have you been calling? They are open on weekends - I think if you want your luggage you're going to have to bite the bullet and drive in on a weekend.

  • Customs for In-Cabin Pet

I will be arriving to ORD via an international flight with my small dog in the cabin with me. My dog will need to go through customs clearance and I think a veterinary health inspection upon arrival. Do I need to make a special appointment ahead of time with airport customs for my dogs clearance or inspection? How long can this take?

The process is simple, you do not need to make an appointment - http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/dogs.html

  • Lost bags at ORD-Who can help??

My bags missed a connection in London and followed me home from England 3 days late. According to my information, the arrived at Chicago on the 13th of July. Since then, my airline, British Airways through AA, cannot seem to either locate them or return them to me. Who can I contact at ORD to help me? All BA calls route through a call center in India who has, apparently, no problem solving ability.

We have a 5:15AM flight out of ORD going to Huston on United (then to Mexico). This is a Wednesday flight, how early do you think we should arrive at the airport? We are checking a bag. Thank you

The Checkin desks will open at about 4 AM.

  • Clearing Customs With I Case Of Wine?
    May 9, 2014
    1
Is it possible to bring a case of wine (2+ gallons) per person through customs at O'Hare? What procedures must be followed?

You will have to put it on your customs declaration and pay duty because that is over the limit.

  • Terminal information

Flying on american airlines nonstop to cancun. Should we be dropped at terminal 5 international? AA recording says T3, which is confusing. Isn't Mexico international? Also, when we arrive back, at what terminal do I have our family pick us up? Thanks!

All AA flights depart from Terminal 3, even International ones. However, you will arrive in Terminal 5.

Thank you for your response. I should have our ride pick us up at terminal 5 arrivals then, right? Sorry, not that familiar with ORD.

Yes, you should be picked up after your trip at Terminal 5.

  • Does not compute

I am attempting to fly to ORD from MLI, onward leg to HK then Sing.. This site says 'No delays' for arrivals or departures.. yet MLI says everything is cancelled at Chicago... they have re booked my flight twice now due to cancellations and delays.. But no indication of any problems on this web page !! hmmmmmm

The FAA reporting system cant keep up with all the changes the airlines are processing. Best bet is to use the flight tracker.

  • Time enough to get from Terminal 2 to 5 and check in
    Dec 23, 2013

I have just exactly 2 hours between landing on a domestic flight with United and flying out on Taca international, from terminal 5. Is this enough time to make it? Or should I change my flight? Thank you!

If your first flight is on-time you should be OK. It will take you about a half hour to get to T5 and go through security if your bags are checked through to TACA.

  • Moving checked baggage from T1 to T5
    Nov 7, 2013

I am arriving at T1 by United from Los Angels with checked in baggage on separately made reservation. I have to hence collect my checked baggage and transfer it to T5 to board a flight by Air India. What is the recommended way to move baggage. I understand that luggage carts are not allowed in ATS.

The only way will be for you to carry it yourself on the ATS.

Quick response is greatly appreciated.. Thanks, SK

  • Coming from Bos, connect to Korean Airlines
    Oct 22, 2013
    2
Leaving Jan 7, 2014. From Bos via AA, arrive at ORD at 10:20am. Depart Korean Air at 11:40am, 1hr 20min layover. Term 3(AA) to Term5(KA). Will I have enough time to make connection? Will I have to go though TSA Securtiy check again? How about Customs. Should I contact AA and get earlier flight to Chicago O'Hare. No international flight experience since USAF back in the late 60's. Limited domestic experience since then. Any and all recommendations or insights appreciated.

After arrival at ORD's Terminal 3, you need to take the ATS shuttle train (follow signs), which runs every few minutes - but in the unsecured areas of the terminals. At T5, you will need to go through security check before proceeding to your M gate: Concourse M has gates M1-21 which wrap around the concessions Court - to the left (gates M12-M21) and to the right (gates M7-M1), and extends northward in the center to gates M8-M11. If you purchased tickets for AA & KA separately, you would need to take the bags to T5 & check them in there, as those two airlines don't belong to the same Alliance. You should be able to make your transfer on time.

That is a very tight connection. If you have to claim bags, It will take you at least half an hour to claim your bags and get to T5, in which time you will be past the bag check cutoff time for your Korean flight. If you booked these tickets on separate tickets, you absolutely need to change your flight from Boston to an earlier flight.

  • do I have time and do I have to go thru security? connecting flight
    Oct 22, 2013

arriving at L2A and departing from K-7 with 40 minutes between. How bad is this time-wise with 2 different concourses even if same terminal T3? is connecting flight and am wondering what is secured area and what is not. I gotta grab some water too b/c next flight is long. Can I do it? Help me asap this is in a few days. thanks a lot anyone

forgot to tell you it is same airline american

You have enough time for transfer: You arrive at Concourse L (with gates L1-10 & L2A & B), and need to exit that Concourse and enter the adjacent Concourse K with gates 1-20.

thanks a lot thoct13. The only way to really get an answer is on a site like this where people actually KNOW. One last thing, it looks like even tho this a connecting flight, I will need to go thru security when going to K? Also, do you know if there's a little store or something where I can pick up some small stuff for the departing flight w/o going thru security? I can't tell which areas are secured and if I have to leave them. Um, I'll be in a wheel chair on the way back 5 days later and may have a question about that but don't want to overload you. Thanks again for all your help!!

You do NOT need to go through security when going frok K to L. All gates at ORD except those in Terminal 5 are connected beyond security.
