Main Terminal / Concourses at Christchurch International CHC Airport

The new integrated passenger terminal at Christchurch Airport - opened April 2013 is divided into an International Arrivals area (to the right), International & Domestic check-in area (to the left) and Regional Departures & Arrivals area at the very left end.  Outside, and across from International Arrivals is the pickup area for off-airport rentals, city bus & coaches, regional shuttles, & pre-booked taxis.  The center & left end are for taxi & shuttle pickups. 
   Level 1:
- International arrivals houses MAF sceening, baggage claim & passport control;
- Domestic arrivals find domestic baggage claim, & Air New Zealand baggage trace office - while both areas have rental car counters, ATM cash machines & Travelex, as well as stores. After passing a number of service & concession stations to the left, there is the regional baggage claim, Air NZ Koru Express, group-check-in, & access to gates 3-14.  The center leads down to the ground level.
 At opposite side are the domestic departure lounge with access to gates 19-15 (after security screening), entry to Air NZ domestic Koru Lounge, and a seated food court.  The left area has a number of food & drink and retail concessions.
   Level 2 has in the center the security screening point & New Zealand Customs - with access to gates 20-35. This area houses Travelex, a number of concessions,  the Air NZ Koru Lounge (international), the Marais Lounge & a children's playground.

NOTE:  By September 2016 AIG completed the second phase of the terminal expansion project - adding around 470,000 sq.feet , raising maximum passenger capacity to 12M annually, and nearly doubling its gates to 25 -17 contact & 8 remote gates.  (Future plans are to increase capacity to 16M annually).
The new retail precinct called 'Spitfire Square'  houses a supermarket, bank, cafe, restaurant, pharmacy, bookshop & florist.

   International Arrivals connecting to a domestic flight  need to claim their bags, exit Customs Hall & thereafter re-check them in at the Connections Desk in the International Arrivals Hall.
   International arrivals connecting to an international flight: (a) if using same airline, & have your onwad boarding pass, stay within the airside (secure) transit lounge prior to proceeding to your connecting gate - your bags will be automatically transferred;  However, if using a different airline you need to get your bags, exit Customs Hall and check in your bags at the Connections Desk in the International Arrivals Hall. 
    Overnight stays: The departures terminal closes after the last evening flight. There is no sleeping allowed on floor or furniture - unless your arrival at the Airport is past 10:30pm (22:30) and your connecing flight is before 8am (08.00) - in which case you are permitted to either use the Air Lounge, if available, or sit in a chair -  The check-in hall opens a 3:30am.  For overnight accommodations, either visit the airport i-SITE team at International Arrivals Hall, or call 0800-568-369, (03) 353-7774, or e-mail travel&
