Hi, I'll be flying from Costa Rica to Boston doing a connection in DFW. Arriving 13:45 and departing 15:10. Is that enough time? and do I need to pick up my luggage in DFW or goes direct to Boston?

You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and take the SkyLink train to your departure terminal and gate. You have 5 minutes shorter than the minimum international to domestic connection time and 35 minutes shorter than what I recommend at DFW. This will be difficult.

I will take a flight from Guadalajara Mexico to Buenos aires Argentina. Do i have to re check-in my luggage in DFW ? or it will be redirected to Argentina. Another question is, do I have to pass inmigration and customs? I only will stay at the airport for 4 hours, Or is there a " Transit Area" ?? Thanks

There are no "transit areas" at US Airports. You will need to pass through US Immigration and Customs and need a transit visa to do so. However, you should not have to claim your bags since you are on an international to international connection. However, confirm that with AA agents in GDL and DFW.

  • Must retrive baggage?

I'm flying from Mexico City to Sydney, Australia via Dallas. Will I have to retrive my baggage and re-check it in Dallas? I am flying with AA from MEX to DFW and Qantas from DFW to SYD, arrival and departure are in terminal D and i have 4 hrs and a half between flights. Thank you for your comments! Tania

You should not have to claim and re-check your baggage since you are on an International to International connection with AA at DFW. You will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and security.

    Thank you a lot!

  • Tips on tight layover time

Hi ! I will fly from Doha by Qtar Airlines to Denver via DFW-Dallas airport.American Airlines is my connecting flight from DFW to DEN. Is 1hour and 20 minute layover time enough for claiming bags and complete immigration? If not, what is your advise? Can I book my bag from Doha to Denver? Hopefully Qatar Air flight will arrive at Terminal D and AA will fly from same terminal.

That is 10 minutes shorter than the recommended minimum connection time and 25 minutes shorter than what I recommend. If you bought your tickets on a single reservation your bags will be tagged through to Denver, but you will have to claim them to go through US Customs after you go through US Immigration, then you will have to re-check them at the transfer desk. You can go back through security in Terminal D but it's unlikely your flight to Denver will depart from there. The SkyLink train connects all terminals inside security.

Do I need to collect checked luggage from Dallas (after domestic flight from Desmoine) and then re-check luggage for Sydney INT flight? If so how much time do I need? Currently have 1 hour 40 mins to transfer.

If you bought your tickets on a single reservation no, you do not. There is no US Customs when exiting the US. All you have to do is take the SkyLink train from your arrival terminal to Terminal D where you will depart on your Qantas flight.

  • Flying from MSP to DFW with a 50 minute layover to connect Doha (DOH)

I am flying from Minneapolis/St.Paul (MSP) to Dallas (DFW) to Terminal D (Gate D40) and have a connecting flying to Doha (DOH) by Qatar but have only 50 minutes layover. Do we need to go to check-in by Qatar counters again (understand the baggage will be taken care). How is the distance between D40 to Qatar airways counters (if needed) and to Qatar Airways gate (number not assigned yet)

Assuming you purchased both tickets together, American should be able to issue you both boarding passes. You should not have to go to the Qatar counter. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Your flight from MSP may not arrive at D40. Gates change daily. However, all gates are connected inside security by the SkyLInk Train. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Duty Free Transfer

Hi! I am flying in from Australia and will be catching an internal connection flight with a 5 hour wait time. My questions is that when i get off the plane, will i be able to pack my duty free alcohol into my checked baggage before i re-check it for my connection? I have had friends who haven't checked it in and they have it confiscated... Cheers.

Yes, when before you go through US Customs you will claim your bags, then before you re-check it, you have a chance to put the liquor in your checked bags.

  • Collecting luggage?

I'm coming from Sydney to Washington, D.C. With a stop over in Dallas will I have to collect my luggage and recheck it in? Will two hours stop over be enough?

Yes, in Dallas you will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and take the SkyLink train to your departure gate. 2 Hours should be just enough time.

Hi, if an Australian flying fm SYD to DFW and connect DFW to HOU, where should he/she clear the immigration and luggage?

He or she will arrive in DFW Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim their bags, go through US Customs, and if they purchased all tickets together, then re-check their bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to their departure gate.

Thank you for the reply, question, why do we nees to clear immigration and luggage in DFW? This a connecting flight to HOU, why cant the luggage be transfer to the connecting flight instead have to re-check in it?

Luggage must be claimed in order to carry it through US Customs. You are entering the United States in Dallas and must go through US Immigration and Customs there. That is the policy at every US Airport.

I will be coming to DFW in the morning 7am AA, have international flight connection at 4pm in Qatar airways. Does DFW airport have clock room or luggage room, where i check in my luggage and go put of airport for shopping/lunch? Thanks

There are no baggage storage facilities at DFW. If you would like to leave the airport during your layover, you will have to bring your bags with you.

flew in from sydney to dallas fort worth on sunday cleared through customs and came to a airport official near terminal D that said put ur bags on the carasell and your bags will go to ur flight but they were only checked in as far as dallas i kept telling him that but he said it would be ok who at the airport do i see as i received none of my bags back

You should contact Qantas as the bags were probably delivered to their bag office as they were the last tag on the bag.

The number to contact them in the US is: 1 866 767 2247

I will be flying R/T from Shreveport to DFW on 08/01/14 and returning on 08/09/14 flying AA. I am leaving on 08/02/14 R/T to LHR and returning 08/09/14 on Delta Airlines. My question is upon arrival at DFW on 08/09 I will go through Customs with my luggage, Will I have to then leave the terminal, come back to AA and then check in with them, or is there any way to check bags through to SHV and just recheck them after clearing Customs?

Delta does not fly from DFW to LHR. You will be entering the US Somewhere other than DFW if you booked a DFW-LHR-DFW ticket with Delta.

I'm sorry, you are correct...I am flying KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, operated by Delta. I also left out that the flight back into DFW will be LHR-AMS-DFW.

So Actually all of your "Delta" flights are operated by KLM, so you will arrive in Terminal D, which also handles AA flights so re-checking your bags with AA will be a lot easier as you won't have to change terminals with your baggage. You can re-check your bags in Terminal D then go through security and take the Skylink train to your departure gate in Terminal B

Thank you very much....this eases my mind alot!

You will arrive in A. You will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with US Airways, then you will go up to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate. Your flight to Indianapolis will likely depart from Terminal B. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Lost Giraffe Print Luggage through American Airlines
    Dec 28, 2013

Hi, I can't seem to get in contact with American Airline's lost luggage office, but my bags have been missing for 4 days now. I have filed a claim and was told that my bags were in DFW, but there apparently hasn't been much done to get my bags to GDL. I need help contacting AA staff! My luggage stands out a lot because it is very girly and has giraffe print.

Also, forgot to add that the number 972-425-2465 is just not working for me. I can't seem to get past the part where it asks me for the last four digits of the number I am calling. Help.
