  • Do I have enough time? TPA - DFW - LHR
    Jul 23, 2015

I am travelling from Tampa to Dallas and then onto London Heathrow with AA, I have a connection time in Dallas of 1hour, is this enough time to get the connection flight or will I be running as fast as my legs will carry me with a disappointment at the end by missing the flight??

You have enough time if your flight from Tampa is on-time. The SkyLink train connects all gates at DFW inside security and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thank you for your response. Do you know the minimum amount of time needed for this connection?

I would be very uncomfortable with less than 45 minutes.

Hi I am arriving at DFW from SYD on Qantas and then another flight to MSY on AA (separate booking) 2 hours later. Is this enough time to make the connection after completing immigration, customs and domestic check in? Thank you

With two separate bookings that will be difficult. I would check-in for your AA flight online before you leave Australia and then show your AA confirmation to the Qantas agent in Sydney. Hopefully they will tag your bags through to MSY. Then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after customs and don't have to go to the AA check in counter, you will be able to go straight to security and to your departure gate. If you do miss your connection AA will have later flights to New Orleans that you can stand by for.

I am traveling from Montreal to Dallas and connecting to SFO with a 1 hour 15 minute layover. If i don't have checked bags, will this be enough time to get to my connecting flight? Will I have to go through customs and security at Dallas?

That is plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in Dallas is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The SkyLink train connects all gates inside security.

I am travelling to Doha through American airlines from MSP to DFW and then taking Quatar airways to Doha. I have about 53 minutes between connecting flight. Question: What is the time needed to connect from AA terminal to Terminal D where Quatar takes off? As this is international flight, do I need to again get in security? Thanks for any answers.

No you do not need to exit security when you arrive. Just hop on skylink to terminal D. Travel times on skylink will be 5-10 minutes depending on whether you arrive at Terminal A or C (both AA terminals). You should be able to connect comfortably

Hi All, I'll be flying out of Vancouver -BC to Madrid in August. We have a connecting flight in DFW, with 1h 24m in between flights. Both legs of this journey (YVR-DFW, DFW - MAD) are with British Airlines, operated by American Airways. We arrive in Terminal D and also fly out of it. Questions: Will we need to deal with baggage in DFW, or can we expect it to be moved for us from one plane to the other? We go through customs in Vancouver for entrance to the US, should we expect any additional security check when transferring planes? If we do have to manually move our checked baggage, will we have to go through security again for it? Thanks

Since you cleared US customs in YVR, you shouldn't have to deal with bags or have to exit security at DFW. Simply walk to your gate for your madrid flight or take skylink if you arrive at a terminal other than D.

We are on a transfer arriving at Dallas to Amarillo from Los Angeles. Can you maybe help with the terminals arriving at and departing...have only 40 minutes for that.Flying on American airlines.

You will arrive in Terminal B and depart from terminal A, C, or D. All gates are connected inside security by the SkyLink train.

  • How long will a connection take at DFW

Our AA plane arrives at DFW at 11:00 am and our next flight leaves at 12 Noon to San Juan Puerto Rico. Is that enough time to make the connection?

If the first flight is domestic that is enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Skylink train connects all gates inside security.

    Thanks. I appreciate your afvice

  • going through security in terminal D to get to terminal C

Hi I am traveling from Seoul (ICN) to DFW to Washington, DC (DCA) tomorrow. I am wondering about after immigration, when I put my bags in the drop-off location, and need to then get to my next flight, can i go back through security in terminal D to ride the skylink, since my flight isn't in terminal D it's in terminal C? Like do they care at security which gate you're at, or just anyone going out of any terminal can enter security in any terminal? Also, how long does customs usually take at about 4-5pm on Saturday? i saw onlient he statistics say 15-20 minutes. I am a US citizen, will I go through a faster lane than others? I am worried because I am seated in the back of the plane and might not get to the immigration line very quickly. I don't want to get stuck in customs for an hour. I have a flight that leaves 2 hours and 20 minutes after my plane is scheduled to land, but I believe these international long-hauls usually take a but less time than they say on the ticket.

Yes, you can go through security in D and take the SkyLink to C. That's sort of the purpose of the Skylink. Yes, US citizens have a faster line since they can use the automated kiosks. You have enough time.

  • enough connection time?

I will fly AA from SJO (Costa Rica) via DFW and AA to London LHR. Arrival in DFW is at 1:41 pm. Departure to LHR is at 3:35 pm. So the transit time in DFW is 1h 54 min. Will this be enough time to pick up luggage, do customs and immigartion formalities and to check in for the flight to LHR? Do I have to change terminals, and if so which ones? There is a second flight from AA to LHR that day at 10 pm. If I miss the flight at 3:35 pm. will AA allow me to change to the 10 pm. flight without buying an additional ticket? Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights will be in Terminal D. you actually should not have to claim your baggage in DFW since you are on an International to International connection. Yes, if you miss your connection AA will put you on the later flight.

  • What I need to do to make my connection

I am flying with spirit air from NY to Las Vegas with a connection at Dallas on the 24th of July. I have a 3hr 20 minute layover. My worry is that I have checked on a bag. WIll I have enough time? What exactly do I need to do to make my connection (luggage collection, security, terminal change etc)? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If both flights were bought from Spirit on the same reservation all you have to do in Dallas is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal E. If you purchased two separate tickets from Spirit you will have to claim your bags in DFW and then re-check them at the Spirit check-in counter, thus paying the bag fee twice.

    That's perfect. Thank you.

Hi everyone I'm planning my flight back from Maui to Switzerland. My AA flight would leave me 1h38m to change flights at DFW. Do you think that's enough? Do I have to go through immigration and swcurity in DFW or is that already done in OGG? Thanks!

Hawaii is part of the United States. you do not go through US Immigration or Customs when travelling between the US Mainland and Hawaii. The only time you will go through Immigration on your trip is when you arrive in Zurich. You will go through security in Maui and in DFW all you will have to do is take the SkyLink train from your arrival gate to your departure gate if they are in different terminals.

costa rica to dfw to sfo, arriving 145 DFW term D and departs to sfo at 345 from term A probably. What step by step info should I send him to get from gate to gate. No checked bags. Thank you!

Never mind, he made it through the mammoth airport to the correct gate with 10 min before boarding! the only confusing part was having to go through security again after leaving immigration, but the signs said 'all gates' and that was the only way to go. time from leaving customs to arriving at his next gate in Terminal A via skylink, was about 40 min.

I fly in on Spirit in Terminal E at 9:07, I need to fly to San Antonio out of Terminal C at 10:25. I have no bags just a carry on. I don't need to go through security again right? I can just go from arrival gate to departure gate? Hop on rail train to get me from one terminal to another?

Yes, if you have no checked bags and you print off your AA boarding pass online or use the AA app on your phone you can go directly to your departure gate using the SkyLink train.

I am currently trying to book my flights for the Christmas holidays at the end of the year. I am planning to fly Sydney (Australia) direct to Dallas Fort Worth on the 20th of December, onwards to Managua, Nicaragua. There is only a 1 hour 45 minute layover to catch the flight to Managua. If I miss the connecting flight, I am concerned that flights around Christmas will be really full (and there is only one flight from Dallas-Managua per day). Is that connecting time enough or should I try to find a different flight option before I book it?

It's possible, but there is a definite risk you'd be stuck in Dallas for a day. I don't think the flights to Managua would be super full that time of year so they probably would be able to get you out the next day if you do miss your connection.

I want to make my question more clear. My understanding is that after custom, arriving passengers will have to recheck the luggage and go through security. Is this area open to the public? Can I meet my daughter in the luggage area before they go through the security again? Thanks

Yes, before they go through security they are in an open area.

My friends will bring my daughter back from China. Their first stop in US will be in DFW, I know they will need to go through immigration, then custom. The connection time is an hour and 50 minutes, my question is, will they have enough time to take my daughter out and go through the security again to the departure gate? Or is it possible for me to get a gate pass and meet them at their departure gate?

Are you not travelling with them to Orlando? I don't really understand. Once they exit customs they will already be outside security so you can meet them there.

No, I do not travel with them to Orlando. You answered my question already, I guess. When they exit the customs and recheck their luggage, they are outside security and that area is open to the public, am I right? I am not sure about this because in other airport, the luggage recheck area for international connecting flight is inside the secured area. Thank you for your response!
