  • Can I make earlier flight after getting bag in Customs?

I'm flying to Boston through DFW returning from Cancun and may be able to make earlier flight. Will they allow me to do this with checked bag?

Usually they do not. Only if there's a long gap between flights, allowing them to pull your bag. They may also offer you Same Day Change online when you check-in, you could try to move to the earlier DFW-BOS flight there.

  • DXB to DFW onward to IAH

Hello, I arrive DFW from DXB on Emirates at 9.05a.m with a connecting flight to IAH on AA at 11.35a.m- booked separately. I assume my procedure would be: 1. Clear U.S. Immigration 2. Clear Customs 3. Turn around before the sterile doors and re-check my baggage at the transfer desk 4. And take the Skylink from Terminal D departures to Terminal A Kindly confirm if I am right; also, I am a Non U.S citizen. Thanks.

Incorrect. You cannot re-check your bags at the transfer desk since they will not be tagged to IAD. You need to take them upstairs to the departure level of Terminal D and check them with AA (and pay a checked bag fee), then you will go through security and take the Skylink to Terminal A. The Skylink runs inside security. AA has check-in counters in Terminals A, B, C, and D and you can use any of them.

I'm arriving from Costa Rica at DFW at 5:43pm. How much time do I need for customs in order to catch the next flight to PHX? Thanks for your help. Will two hours work?

The minimum connection time is 90 minutes but closer to 2 hours is perferable.

    Thank You...very helpful! : )

  • JFK-DWF-MEX American Airlines

Hello. I am flying from New York JFK with AA65 arriving in DFW at 7.31pm. I have a connecting flight with American Airlines AA2417 at 8.15pm to Mexico City. Is this enough time to not miss my connecting flight? Do I need to go through security before the connecting flight, I am travelling on a European passport? There is no indication on AA which terminals the planes arrive/depart. Also is this enough time for my luggage to go onto the next plane?

All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in DFW. If you arrive at a different terminal than Terminal D (you will depart from D), then the SkyTrain connects all Terminals inside security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • AA Schedule Change: Now only 2 hours to clear customs

Hello, We'll be arriving DFW from BOG on April 8 at 6:54am and have a connecting flight in Terminal A at 9:10am. We had originally allotted ourselves over 3 hours to clear customs, relax and not be stressed, but we just received notification that AA has changed our flight schedule to the times I stated. My husband will be traveling with me and will be entering the US as a first time Permanent Resident visa holder. I'm not sure if that will take extra time at the customs counter or not? Any thoughts on the connection times?

You should still have enough time.

  • Time required between arrival & connecting flight

We arrive at DFW terminal D at 13.25pm on Qantas. Do we have enought time to catch a connecting United Airlines flight from Terminal E at 15.35pm. How long should we expect the customs process to take. How long should we expect the check in process with United Airlines to take as we will have luggage. Any tips for first timers to DFW is much appreciated

No, that is a very difficult connection as you will be outside security once you clear customs. The SkyLink train runs inside security and you will have no way to access it until you check your luggage, so you will have to take a shuttle bus from Terminal D to Terminal E and the United check-in counter, which could take awhile.

Hey, I was in DFW yesterday 1/12/15 and almost lost my connecting flight. I barely made it just because an officer let me go faster in the line as soon as he saw my departure time in my ticket. Good man... you will find long lines all over: Border, customs, airport security before Skylink... my advice: Run as I and the others did, at least yesterday... Good luck with your trip.

Thank you for your reply, most helpful and quick. This helps us make a decision to wait for the later flight.

Thanks for the tip, but running is not our strong point. Will book later flight to be safe :)

  • More time needed for international travellers making a connection

Last night my son arrived at DFW on a delayed flight from Heathrow. He was travelling to Brownsville in Texas. Originally he would have had almost 2 hr 30 mins to transfer but because of a delay he had just over an hour. He texted me to say he had spent 30 mins in immigration and then had to go through security and was about to miss his flight. His phone died and I was left not knowing wether or not my son(a student,20 and travelling on his own) had made his flight or not. After phone calls to DFW and no one able to help I spent the next 2 hours worrying. As it was my son made it on the flight to Brownsville(the last one that day) but his luggage didn't! He is now awaiting the luggage a day later. I personally will not fly through DFW again without more time as to get your luggage,go through immigration, bag drop and security plus go to the next terminal takes time. As he wasn't an Ameican citizen I was told they would not be able to clear him quickly at any point through the process. Do all Us airports make you pick up luggage if you have a connecting flight?

Yes, all US Airports make you pick up your baggage to go through US Customs, then re-check it before a connection. The procedures at DFW are not different than any other airport in the US.

Hi, I fly from OKC to DFW to MBJ and have a 40 min connection. Is this enough time? Thank you.

Yes, that is barely enough time if your first flight is on-time. The SkyLink train connects all terminals inside security. You will depart from Terminal D.

Between my domestic flight from Chicago to DFW and the connection to Cancun I have 80 minutes time. Do I have to go through immigration / custom in DFW? Is this time enough?

You do not go through US Immigration or customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in DFW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The Skylink train connects all terminals inside security. You have enough time.

  • Connection to Cabo San Lucas

We have a connection in Dallas FW Airport that is 47 mins and we are going to Cabo San Lucas MX. I am a little worried if we will have enough time. Thoughts?

If your first flight is domestic and on-time that should be enough time. The SkyLink train connects all terminals inside security.

I'm assuming this means I would be cutting it close. Yes first flight is domestic and I don't change carriers so do you think terminals might be close?

You will depart from Terminal D and arrive in A, B, C, or D.

  • TSA Precheck gates

I need a list of TSA Precheck Gates for all terminals at DFW Airport.

A12, C21, D30, & E18 https://dfwairport.com/travel/security/index.php However, all gates are connected inside security, so if you are precheck but have a flight from Terminal B, you can go through security in A or D and then take the Skytrain to B.

I just need to know which terminal at DFW Airport my flight will leave from so I know where to park my car if I am leaving on Spirit Airlines Flight 107 on January 8th, 2015 and returning on Spirit Airlines Flight 108 on January 11th, 2015.

Both flights will use Terminal E.

Hi. I am flying from Raleigh-Durham to Denver today. My flight gets into DFW at 9:40 pm and departs at 10:35 pm. Will this leave enough time for my bags to be transferred?

Yes, that should be enough time.

I arrive at DFW at 19.35 from London and my plane for LBB leaves at 21.10. I am a norwegian student and will be returning to the states on J-1 visa after spending the christmas at home. Is this enough time?

It should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level, through security, and take the SkyLink train to your departure terminal/gate.

What about the horror stories of three plus hours at customs?.. Will I have to pay extra checked bag fee? Arrive tonight in dfw at 745.. Terminal d.. Depart at 925 terminal a

In March fly into Dallas from Cancun @ 3:52, depart to Denver 5:50. after immigration & customs and recheck luggage will we leave a secured area and have to go thru security again to catch flight to Denver, I believe 2 hours should be fine on time. Appreciate your answers.

Yes, when you exit customs you will be outside the secure area, so you will have to go through security on your way to your departure gate.
