  • Connecting flight in Dallas
    May 11, 2014
Hi I will be flying from Austin to San Francisco via Dallas - all on the same carrier, American Airlines. May i check if i will need to go through customs or go directly to the gate for my connecting flight to SF? Do i need to claim my baggage as well? Thanks for the help!

At DFW, American airlines uses Terminals A & D, American Eagle Terminal B (all with corresponding gates - i.e. gate A-10) Your ticket & overhead screens on arrival will indicate fight & gate numbers. If you need to switch between terminals, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dfw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text. Only international arrivals go through customs & re-check-in bags.

Austin, Dallas and San Francisco are all in the United States, why do you think you'd need to go through customs?

  • DFW connecting to AA0232 to Atlanta
    Apr 14, 2014
My parents are flying on QF7 arriving DFW on Tue 22 April at 1.20pm and have to connect for flight to Atlanta on AA0232. (a) I am assuming they have to through Passport Control ? (b) Do they have to pick up their Bags and go through Customs? (c) Do they have enough time to meet their connecting flight to Atlanta? (all flights are on same AA ticket)

Yes, they will go through US Immigration, claim their bags, go through US customs, then re-check their bags. Since you didn't post what time their flight to Atlanta departs I don't know if they will have enough time. But as long as it's over 90 minutes they should be OK.

Sorry, 3.35pm I am checking flight AA0232 today and it is leaving from Terminal A Gate A16 - can one assume that this will be the same next Tuesday?

No, flights use different gates on different days. It could use any gate in Terminals A, C, or D.

  • Is an hour enough time?
    Mar 26, 2014
American called & said they eliminated one of the flights we had and had to change all our flights - the new flights have us arriving from PVR to DFW at 1640 and then departing DFW to Hobby at 1740. The 1740 departure is now the last DFW to HOU flight. SO my question is - is an hour enough time to get through customs and get from terminal to terminal? Thanks in advance

Anyone know the answer to this? halp please

  • are all dfw terminals within the same security "bubble"?
    Mar 5, 2014
i have a super long layover in dallas. can i walk around or train around to all the terminals without ever having to exit/re-enter secuity? if this is NOT possible, which terminals involve exiting/re-entering security? thanks!

I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dfw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

All terminals are connected inside security by the SkyLink train. There are no walkways connecting terminals.

i come from montgomery aa termianl b and depart terminal d emirates dx. in dfw how i go to terminal d. i go to ticketing counter or take sky link amd go to emirates gate take boarding pass

If you bought both flights on one ticket you simply use the Sky link train (within security); in case you have separate airline tickets you would need to head for the check-in counter of Emirates first to get your boarding pass, then go through security check and board the Sky Link Train to Terminal D. (At TB between gates B9-12 & B28-31; at TD at gates D2, D20, D25 & D34.)

The Emirates counter (if you need to go there) will be in Terminal D, so it's best to take the SkyLink Train there first, exit security to go to the Emirates counter, then go back through security. If you have checked bags and AA will not check your baggs through to Emirates, you will have to claim them in Terminal B, then take a shuttle bus to Terminal D and then check them with Emirates.

  • Dallas Passport Check
    Feb 8, 2014
Requesting information. 2/10/15 fly on American at 8ish from Puebla, Mexico to Dallas, Tx. After landing at Dallas, what is the route inside Dallas airport to passport check and customs that I need to take? From Dallas, I will be flying to Columbia, South Carolina. Any help and information is greatly appreciated.

    Date correction. Flight is 2/10/14

You will arrive in Terminal D, go through US Immigration, claim your checked baggage (if you have any), go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with American. Then you will go up to the departures level and go through security and then take the SkyLink train to your departure gate which will likely be in Terminal B.

Thank you very much, sir :-)

  • bags, re-check or not ?
    Jan 29, 2014
Hello, soon I'm flying from Madrid to Bogota with 1h10min layover in Dallas (DFW). I would know if my bag go directly from Madrid to Bogota or I have to take my bag in Dallas and re-check ? Both flights are with American Airlanes. Do you think 1h10min it will be enough to pass the customs and don't lost my next flight ? Thank you.

Every time you go through US Immigration you have to claim your baggage, go through customs, and re-check. So yes, you will have to. You will have to hope your flight from Madrid is on-time and the lines at Immigration aren't bad in order to make your connection. At least both of your flights will be in the same terminal.

  • International transit through DFW
    Jan 16, 2014
Hi, My son will be travelling from Sydney to Calgary, Canada via transit in DFW. His Qantas flight arrives Terminal D and his AA flight on to Calgary departs from (I think) Terminal D a few hours later. Will he go through immigration in DFW before boarding the Calgary flight, or will he just go through an international transit lounge? (He has US citizenship) Thanks!

There are no international transit lounges in the US. He will go through US immigration, claim his bags, go through US customs and re-check them before going through security and to his gate for his Calgary flight. His Calgary flight may not depart from D, so if it does he will take the SkyLink train between terminals (which runs inside security).

  • Calgary, AB to PHX through DFW
    Jan 10, 2014
Hi, I can't seem to find a concrete answer on this. I'm flying from YYC (Calgary, AB, Canada) to Phoenix with a 2 hour layover in DFW. Some people say that I have to go through immigration, customs, security etc before proceeding to the DFW-PHX flight. Others say that I just go straight from the YYC-DFW gate to the DFW-PHX gate. Which one is correct? Thank you so much in advance. I am flying alone and this is the first connecting flight I've ever taken.

You will clear US immigration in Calgary. All you have to do in DFW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If they are in different terminals you will take the skylink train which runs inside security.
